He also took responsibility for a few issues that came up during construction -- he replaced a damaged pathway light, repaired a cracked concrete curb, and resodded areas of grass affected by the Bobcat. I genuinely appreciate those efforts. However, I was disappointed that my landscape lighting system was left completely inoperable. The crew cut the landscape wiring in multiple places during excavation, and none of my lights work now. Brian declined to repair the wiring, explaining that they had to "manipulate" the slope and that locating the wires would have been too difficult. He described it as an "easy fix." Maybe for him, but not for me. My electrician charges $225 per hour just for a service call. After several conversations with Brian, we reached an impasse. He maintained that the wiring repair was not his responsibility, so it will now fall on me to hire an electrician and absorb the cost. There is no language in the proposal stating that the contractor is not liable for damage to electrical components. However, the contract does state that "every effort is made to perform this work in a quality workmanlike manner." Given that, I expected the wiring to be repaired as part of good customer service. Two of my neighbors were waiting for my project to be completed so they could hire him next. After hearing about the unresolved wiring issue, they have decided to go with another contractor. For now, I'll be without landscape lighting until I can budget for the repair, which is disappointing after an otherwise solid project.

Greg did a rough sketch, added suggestions, and we went from there. All prior grass and planting material were removed by them as agreed upon prior to the work beginning. They had a clean slate to work with. Upon clearing an area with plants Greg and Jimmy came upon two alligator lizards that they moved to the back yard. Hopefully, they will find their way back to the front yard after the work is completed. They really did create a beautiful outdoors landscape bringing feelings of the Sierra Mountains and Joshua Tree to the landscape. An example of how a low maintenance and drought tolerant landscape can be lush and exciting. During the process, both Greg and Jimmy paid meticulous attention to detail with the placement of the brick walkway, brick lined pathway, placement of boulders, rocks for the dry creek bed, and plants. Happy that I opted to add the outdoor lighting. The lighting adds to the magic of the landscape. Needless to say, the landscape went beyond my wildest expectation and works well with a historical Tudor style home. It is gorgeous. Tried to hide left over base behind a trailer. Asked him to come back and correct and of course they wouldn't respond because we already paid. Don't pay a dime until you fully examine your job. We hired Carlos to do our driveway/front yard pavers and to build a new walkway, courtyard and…read morewall. The pavers came out fine, however the steps up to the walkway and front door have the wrong color of grout. They also did a HORRIBLE job on the grout on our wall. Not only is it gloppy and sloppy (which I pointed out while they were working on it and they didn't fix), they also left spaces unfilled. When they came back to fill in the gaps, they used a different color and whatever they used doesn't even look like grout...it looks like some type of putty. He also did not even tell me he was finished "fixing" the wall before he left. So he was already gone when we noticed. He even joked that I had a good eye to notice all the gaps they missed. Seems kind of ridiculous that they didn't notice that since they were supposed to be the "professionals". We have since tried to get him to come out and fix it. He sent someone out to take a look and the person he sent agreed that it was not done properly. He also said that they would not have noticed the mismatched color the day they "fixed" it because it doesn't show up till the grout dries. He told my husband he would have to do the whole thing over. He said he would not charge for the labor but WOULD charge us for the materials!!! This is unacceptable! When you hire a company to do something and it's not done right, they shouldn't charge anything to fix it! Sadly my husband paid in full before all this and Carlos's response was that "we signed off on the job". I even sent him pictures of all the mistakes and he did not even respond. He had come highly recommended to us so we thought we could trust that he knew what he was doing and that he would make things right. BIG MISTAKE. Now we're stuck with a mess. Save yourself time, money and headache and don't hire Carlos Pavers.
