I am so happy to find a true seamstress in town. I'm so done with dry cleaner "tailors". Parvin is a truly talented and experienced woman. I am very petite with a big butt so jeans never fit at the waist if they do in the hips/butt. Parvin did a seamless job taking them in. I also had her fix a split seam on a Peacoat and take in a blouse. All 4 items for under $150. These items were worth $0 hanging in my closet, but now that they fit me, they have value again! Based on other reviews here, I brought several pairs of jeans to be hemmed. Parvin was quick and efficient at marking each pair and the work was exceptionally well done. Although it's a bit pricier than other places I've gone to, it's definitely worth it in my opinion for the better quality. I'll be back for more alterations work for sure. read more

Wonderful woman who works here. Very sweet and attentive. She did a great job with my bridesmaid dress. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the price. She said my dress needed a lot of work (needed about an inch off the bottom hem and the back taken in a bit), she quoted and charged $180. (My dress originally was $300) so this seems a little too expensive for me, but I didn't have time to shop around at other places. Great work and friendly, just on the pricey side, unfortunately. A couple of months ago, I found a fabulous 100% merino hooded cycling jacket made by Chrome. It didn't fit very well, but because I loved the material and it was super warm, I bought it anyway, knowing I could likely find a tailor. My jacket is a bit complex in design. Among other things, it has flattened seams with contrasting thread, invisible pockets (side and back), and accent stitching. Because I knew altering it would likely be challenging, this wasn't a job I was willing to entrust to just anyone. After reading horror stories on Yelp about alterations gone wrong, previous reviews of Parvin's shop convinced me that she was the person to see. $85 lighter and two weeks later, I picked up my beloved jacket. Based on the complexity of what she had to do, her rate was more than reasonable. When I factor in that my jacket looks exactly the same as it did when I initially bought it (except for fitting much, much better), I can unequivocally state that Parvin does amazing work. Even though I don't live in Petaluma, there's no question in my mind as to where I'll take future alterations. Thanks, Parvin! read more

I went here after having a negative experience with another tailor in town (and on a recommendation of a friend), and it was great. I paid $30 to have a pair of jeans hemmed and to have a dress shirt taken in on the sides. Parvin was very kind and professional. She had my work completed on time and did a wonderful job. It's true that she only accepts cash and checks, but that is completely understandable from a small business. Her hours are difficult for me, as I also work a Tuesday through Saturday work week, but rearranging my schedule will be worth it when I need alterations. read more

This woman wasnt the kindest when I went in to drop off my dress. I initiated conversation with her very minimally while she measured me because we were standing there in silence for a long time and she seemed annoyed that I was talking to her. Also, she charged $250 to hem a dress a couple inches shorter! When I went to pick up my dress, she was so sweet and smiley and nice. I thought to myself, wow, she is so dang nice today! Our original wedding date was set for late September but when we heard about Petaluma's Rivertown Revival weddings happening on July 18th, we decided to go for it and get married there. Suddenly, I had only a week to get my dress... After searching bridal shops and getting more and more discouraged, I decided to take a chance on what appeared to be my perfect dress from The Reformation (online). I ordered it Wednesday, it arrived Thursday night, and was truly perfect....except for being too tight :(. I was panicked. I woke up Friday morning and called Elegant Alterations after doing a yelp search. Parvin had me come in immediately. She is professional and lovely and promised I would have my dress by that afternoon. Instead, she was calling me two hours later and had already finished! This woman is very sweet. However, she does not know how to properly measure a dress to be hemmed. I brought a simple 2 layer dress in, (slip and tulle) what resulted was a slip that was far too short (my feet were showing) and a tulle layer that was far too long (I was stepping on it when I walked). She also charged me 85 dollars for this. The proper way to measure the dress to be hemmed, is to pull the fabric to the floor and mark with fabric chalk where it hits the ground. What she did was folded up the fabric, basically doing guess work - the cuts were uneven. Do not get a dress that matters to you hemmed here. read more

Preface to Yelp review: I bought a gorgeous pre-owned wedding dress that had two minor issues: 1. a tear in the back where the bustle loop was. 2. and a busted bustle loop. My dress that three tiny bustle loops in the back that attached to little hidden hooks at the waistline. The previous bride showed me what needed to be done to fix the dress. It was pretty minor. The fabric was a little tricky though, It was silk chiffon. Yelp Review: I brought my dress to Elegant Alterations based on the amazing Yelp reviews. I had just moved to Petaluma from Los Angeles so I had no reference as to where I should do the alterations on my dress. Based on the reviews, this looked like a charming small business run by a really nice lady. I took my dress in and explained the two issues. She said she could fix it and said the charge would be $87. Great. Done. I made sure to point out the bustle loops and hooks to her to ensure that she understood what I needed done. She said she'd fix it. I was really happy and excited to get my dress back. When I returned a few weeks later to pick up the dress, I tried it on, and she fixed the rip. It was kind of obvious where the rip was but she said nobody will notice because nobody will be looking there anyway. Great. Now on to the bustle. I asked about the loop and she looked confused. I re-explained to her the issue with the loop and she looked me straight in the face and told me that I never mentioned that to her. I kindly reassured her that I remember specifically pointing the loops out to her and asked her "Don't you remember me showing you?" She looked at me again, straight in the face as if anticipating an argument and told me again that I "never said that". In fact she repeated to me several times that I "never said that." I was a little offended. I would have understood if she said something like "No, I don't remember you saying that" or "I must have misunderstood" but to straight out, pretty much tell me that I'm lying to her about something that I was certain of, felt like a bit of an insult. Still, I asked very nicely what my options would be to get the bustle fixed. She looked at it and after a long song and dance about the fabric and the layers of chiffon, she basically told me she couldn't fix it. At that my point my patience was exhausted. I paid her and left. I needed to get my bustle fixed so I looked on Yelp again and found a lovely lady in Novato who looked at the alteration to the tear and was like "What happened here?" I explained the tear and how I got it fixed by a lady in Petaluma. She said it looked really bad and obvious. She felt so bad for me that she said she would fix it along with my bustle for no extra charge. I wish I had found this business in Novato first. What a waste of time Elegant Alterations was. If you just need a simple alteration like a hem or something, I'm sure Elegant Alterations is just fine. But from my experience, I, personally, will never return there and cannot recommend this place to anyone. My experience was horrible. read more
