Preface to Yelp review: I bought a gorgeous pre-owned wedding dress that had two minor issues: 1. a tear in the back where the bustle loop was. 2. and a busted bustle loop. My dress that three tiny bustle loops in the back that attached to little hidden hooks at the waistline. The previous bride showed me what needed to be done to fix the dress. It was pretty minor. The fabric was a little tricky though, It was silk chiffon. Yelp Review: I brought my dress to Elegant Alterations based on the amazing Yelp reviews. I had just moved to Petaluma from Los Angeles so I had no reference as to where I should do the alterations on my dress. Based on the reviews, this looked like a charming small business run by a really nice lady. I took my dress in and explained the two issues. She said she could fix it and said the charge would be $87. Great. Done. I made sure to point out the bustle loops and hooks to her to ensure that she understood what I needed done. She said she'd fix it. I was really happy and excited to get my dress back. When I returned a few weeks later to pick up the dress, I tried it on, and she fixed the rip. It was kind of obvious where the rip was but she said nobody will notice because nobody will be looking there anyway. Great. Now on to the bustle. I asked about the loop and she looked confused. I re-explained to her the issue with the loop and she looked me straight in the face and told me that I never mentioned that to her. I kindly reassured her that I remember specifically pointing the loops out to her and asked her "Don't you remember me showing you?" She looked at me again, straight in the face as if anticipating an argument and told me again that I "never said that". In fact she repeated to me several times that I "never said that." I was a little offended. I would have understood if she said something like "No, I don't remember you saying that" or "I must have misunderstood" but to straight out, pretty much tell me that I'm lying to her about something that I was certain of, felt like a bit of an insult. Still, I asked very nicely what my options would be to get the bustle fixed. She looked at it and after a long song and dance about the fabric and the layers of chiffon, she basically told me she couldn't fix it. At that my point my patience was exhausted. I paid her and left. I needed to get my bustle fixed so I looked on Yelp again and found a lovely lady in Novato who looked at the alteration to the tear and was like "What happened here?" I explained the tear and how I got it fixed by a lady in Petaluma. She said it looked really bad and obvious. She felt so bad for me that she said she would fix it along with my bustle for no extra charge. I wish I had found this business in Novato first. What a waste of time Elegant Alterations was. If you just need a simple alteration like a hem or something, I'm sure Elegant Alterations is just fine. But from my experience, I, personally, will never return there and cannot recommend this place to anyone. My experience was horrible. read more

I really like this place and the woman who I assume owns it (Parvin?) is very sweet. However, I can't really go here anymore because the hours just don't work for me since they are only open during the time that I'm at work. Closing at 5:30 during the week and only being open a few hours on the weekend make it tough for me. I also find it frustrating that they only take cash (possibly checks?). These two major inconveniences are a bummer because I thought I had finally found a great tailor in Petaluma. That being said, if the limited hours and payment options are OK with you, I do recommend taking your stuff here. read more

Fantastic service! I had a pair of burgundy jeans that were about 2" too long. After calling other places I decided to go here. The price of hemming jeans is only 12$ which is 3$ less than other places I called. She also had the work done in about an hour. 5 stars all the way. read more

I brought in some jeans to be hemmed and a shirt to have side vents added. The pricing for hemming pants seems high ($24) and to do both alterations it took a week and a half! She only takes cash or check which I forgot so I ran to a nearby ATM to pay and she had no change! If you require cash or check, you should make a point to have change! Parvin was very helpful from the moment I stepped in with my wedding dress. She did an awesome job by hemming my chiffon dress that a had more than 2 layers, and excellent work with making everything fit. I truly recommend them. read more

I'm a last minute bridesmaid who needed a size 20 dress brought into a 10. I only had 2 weeks. Dress was to be finished the day of, but when I called to check on it, it was already finished. And it fits perfectly!!! Great job and I HIGHLY recommend! read more

You can tell that Parvin knows what she's doing! I was a bridesmaid and neded the dress to be let out ($65). My dress came out fitting perfectly. On another note- To hem jeans or khakis: $18 a pair (as of 2/15/17). Little bit of a price shock to me, but i guess you get what you pay for! read more

I used to be an expert seamstress myself, but years later and with no sewing machine, I sought out a good tailor and was delighted to find Parvin at Elegant Alterations. There is no task beyond her talents and there is also no task too small for her to accept with a smile. She's creative, too, and has good ideas about how best to alter things. Parvin is an absolute saint. I cannot even begin to explain how much she saved me. First off I was the best man in my best friend's wedding of 25+yrs and Men's Wearhouse totally screwed up and sent my suit to the wrong place and by the time it finally got to me it was 4 days til the wedding and I needed the entire thing altered. I explained to Parvin and she assured me she would have it done the and ready to be picked up the evening before I flew to Chicago for the wedding. Of course I got hung up at work this night and by the time I got to her store it was 30min past closing. I was totally screwed. Panicked I was pacing the parking lot when some amazing ladies at the store down the way came out. They helped me to contact the building landlord, who contacted Parvin, and she came all the way from home to open the store and get my suit. Parvin did a fabulous job! I got a bridesmaid dress altered by her (taken in and shortened) and it looks great on! The only downside, was it was more on the expensive side than I thought it would be. I did buy the dress on sale, but the alterations still cost more than the dress itself. Worth it to go there if you have the budget for it. Cash or Check only, no cards. read more

WAY OVER PRICED! DO NOT GO HERE. Trust me you can find someone just as good OR EVEN BETTER who will charge you way less. Shocked with how much this woman charges. Seriously stealing your money. The dress she hemmed was worth $65 and was charging $116 for a simple hemming and to be taken in on the sides. The owner purposely over charges and takes advantage of people. read more

Recently I had 2 sweatshirts that had broken zippers and she managed to find zippers that matched perfectly. Could it be that Parvin has relocated even closer to me??? SCORE!!! She alters all of my jeans. I bring her in a stack of 6 or 7 once or twice a year. I tend to back stock them online when they go on sale and then bring them in all at once. She is a super talented tailor and always does a great job. Sometimes you have to wait a little while because she is so busy but it is always worth the wait. My jeans fit like a dream. read more

My husband dropped off a coat to have the sleeves shortened. He told the owner he needed it by a certain date because we were going on a trip. She said that she would have it done. When he went to pick it up, three weeks later, the owner said she didn't have it. My husband luckily had the receipt. We had to buy another coat and luckily were able to have it expertly altered by Marliz's Alterations right away so that it would be ready for our trip the next week. The owner did pay us for the new coat. About a month later, the owner left a message on our answer phone that our coat was finished. My husband called her and told her we did not need it now as our trip was over and we had purchased a new one. read more

This place is rad. I bought a dress online and was sad when I got it, it was slightly too small in one area. I googled alteration places in Petaluma and this one popped up. When I went in she was so nice and very helpful. She told me she could work with the dress without changing it too much and she also did it on short notice! I dropped off the dress in the afternoon and she was calling me the next morning! I have a couple other dresses that I need finished like this one and I will gladly go back. read more

I brought 2 simple items for this person to sew...a small zipper and a 4" seam that needed stitching...She asked when I needed it and I said "as soon as possible" she then said there was no way she could do it and what did I expect from her? I first came to Elegant Alterations in a pinch for a suit to be tailored. I found Parvin's business through the wonderful Yelp reviews and walked in her door one hour before closing requesting a hem for suit pants which were needed for an important meeting the following day. Parvin made it happen, she did a beautiful hem and commented on the fit as she is truly an expert. Her schedule which includes Saturdays makes it very convenient for corporate individuals to get wardrobe alterations. Highly recommended! read more

I needed alterations for a couple of suits I had bought, for a special occasion less than a week away, and the department store where I bought them could not do the alterations in time. I had never gone to a tailoring shop before, so I looked on Yelp, and this was the shop that had the best reviews, and I was not disappointed. My son wanted a cream-coloured three-piece suit for graduation (He does have a sense of style), and I couldn't find one anywhere that was remotely nice. I ordered one online but, of course, it needed to be tailored. Parvin did an immaculate job! The suit fits his physique perfectly and he looks amazing in it. While it wasn't inexpensive to have the suit altered, it was worth every penny. Plan on paying cash or cheque. As with many small business owners not wanting to charge their clients additional fees, credit is not accepted. read more

I went here for my wedding gown alterations due to the good reviews. While I can't comment on the quality of work as I didn't end up going here, I can say that the price was outrageous. She quoted me at $1500 - yes, twice the cost of the gown itself. I knew this was a complete rip off and I ended up taking it elsewhere, where they charged me a reasonable amount of $275. This place sounds like it's fine for alterations for everyday clothing, but brides beware! I think she hears "wedding" and purposely hikes up the prices. She is a nice woman but is not charging fair prices. read more

On the one hand, a nice lady who did me a really nice favor for no particular reason. On the other hand, I paid her to resew some buttons on a coat. She ended up sewing right through one of the pockets, so the pocket became unusable. No big deal, but then she CHARGED ME SIGNIFICANT MONEY to repair the mistake that SHE had made.
