Two things that I apprieciate in service industry is value and timeliness. Sadly, they missed on both. If it takes you 6 weeks to repair denim, you are out of you depth in your ability to serve your customer. If I am required to call YOU to see if it's done, just as a reminder for you to do it, you are also out of your depth. Over $80 for a repair patch on the inside of the leg. Could have bought a new pair or a sewing machine to do my own repairs...which is what I did. If you have time and money to burn, go for it. read more

I had no other choice because it's a bridesmaids dress but now I'm stuck with an expensive ass dress that I don't see myself wearing after that day. CHECK HOW MUCH THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE BEFORE DROPPING OFF ANYTHING!! I dropped off my dress (one layer cocktail dress) that just needed a little tweaking -- an inch off the hem, a tiny bit taken off the waist. I didn't ask the price because I figured it was simple and would be around $40-$65 max....pick up my dress and he rings it up at $160!!!! The dress itself cost me $40!!! it was INSANE. absolutely STUNNED I went on to ask him -- he told me that was his DISCOUNTED price and that he could have charged me over $200!! goodnight, I told him honestly that I felt like if that is how much he charges he needs to tell people upfront. He made up some excuse about how he wouldn't want to "offend" people by making it seem like that was too much for them....noooo he absolutely knows the majority of people would walk back out and live with a dress an inch too long. Please do not use this business. I dropped off a jacket to have letters put on the back of it. The letters just needed to be ironed on, no sewing was requested. I dropped the jacket off in April and they gave me a pickup date of June 6. I called the shop many times and all they said was they were working on it. The jacket was finally ready today, August 18. They tell you one price and once you pickup they charge you an outrageous amount! My total was supposed to be around $90 and ended up paying over $350 And if your clothes is brand new and still has tags on, they will charge you taxes on the "tag amount" too, who does that? First, you already paid for your clothes (wherever you bought it from) is not their business how much you pay for your new clothes. You are there for alterations not pay retail prices. Was charged $20 to hem a pair of $40 slacks.... Not lined slacks. Not high-end brand slacks. Not leather slacks. Just plain ole wool Nordstrom Rack slacks. Anywhere else, this would have been a $12-$15 job. Also, the hem stitch is crooked. Not at all impressed. Totally disappointed. Suffice to say that if: (a) your time is worthless (for how many times one must go back and forth to try to get the 'expert' work to fit properly); (b) your money is also worthless, for how much they charge for the work they do; and (c) if you don't need your garments until the cows come home -- then you should be very happy with this establishment. read more

Bad experience here. A moth had gotten into my suit and ate a hole through the lapel. I took it here, and, to be fair, they said that they wouldn't be able to do a whole lot. So I came back one day after they asked me to and they said they hadn't even started yet, and that I should come back in an hour. Came back, and suit looked worse than before. They just sewed the hole shut instead of covering it. They said nothing could be done, and because it came out bad, they gave me 20% off. Gee. Thanks. The reason I'm angry is because afterwords, I took it to another tailor after who was absolutely disgusted with the work they did. Took my suit, undid their work, fixed it in two days and gave it back to me looking brand new. And the other tailor charged me less than these guys did. Save your time and money. I held off on my review because of mixed feelings. Thought I better think it over so it's a thoughtful, and helpful, review. I've had 2 items altered here, about 2 years apart. The 1st was a skirt that looked like it was flawed - hung wrong. The owner convinced me it was only some trim that was sewn wrong & once moved it would look perfect. He's very knowledgeable & he was right. I was happy that I could wear the skirt again, though I thought $28 was pricey for moving some trim. The most recent item was a lined cotton sleeveless dress. It was too big due to some weight loss & I needed it altered to a smaller size. The owner took the time to pin it & decide the best way to alter it - along the side seams versus along the seams that shape it between the side & the back zipper. When I picked it up I declined the offer to try it on - much to my later chagrin. I tried it on a few days later & it fits perfect. So what's the beef you ask? One of the side seams isn't straight - it curves towards the front. Grrrr. I vacillated on whether to take it back, but since the material was cut I don't think there's any way to remedy this. And the cost - $68!!!! That's about what I paid for the dress on sale at Macy's. Yikes. Could I have taken it back and asked for a credit? Yes. I hate confrontation, so didn't do it & now you get to hear about it, and hopefully learn from my experience. So the lesson I learned, and I hope you'll learn from my review: Ask how much up front & try the item on when you pick it up. read more

I came at 4:30pm and did the fitting and left to return to my office. She offered to finish it same day and deliver it to me to my own office after they closed! This is a great alterations place. The people who work here know what they are doing when it comes to sewing. They are friendly, but get down to business, and are very accommodating when it comes to how quickly you need your garments finished. I recently took a bridesmaid dress here for alterations. I was admittedly nervous to hand my $280 dress over to anyone - but alas it was a size too small so alterations were not optional. I brought in my dress, the extra fabric sent to me by a designer, and the hope that they could help. After already being turned away by another alterations store because the garment was too complicated, I was skeptical they would be able to help. They were fantastic here! They knew exactly what needed to be done to the dress. I came in for a fitting halfway through their alterations. When I picked up the dress it fit perfectly. Pricewise, this was an expensive project. Their price seemed very reasonable particularly since I gave them a very short timeline for the alteration. Over the years my family has taken many garments here - pants, shirts and the like - and has always had positive experiences. I highly recommend this shop!! They are slightly more expensive than other places but I bring stuff here because I know it will be done right! It is run by a husband and wife and the husband is wonderfully helpful and friendly. I came by here on a whim. I had to get a bridesmaid dress altered in two weeks, and wanted to go local. I walked in the shop and was greeted by a woman. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name. She asked what I needed done, and when I finished she had me change into my dress with the shoes of be wearing. She had me standing in front of the mirror, and started working away. When we were done, she asked when I needed it by and said it would be ready in time. It took about a week and a half. I figured it would be pricy, but considering the amount of fabric she had to take off I was ok with that. I paid $172 for her to hem and alter the top of my dress. I was so happy I went to her. My dress fit perfectly. And I had no problems when I was wearing the dress. I would go to her again and send anyone there. read more

Not a happy guy here. This review is not for the work done but for the price point. I took a suit jacket that needed to have the sleeves shortened a bit to this place. They charged me 65 bucks for this. I thought that was a little steep and hadn't done my yelp homework on this place yet. Sure enough I should have because that's the main complaint with them. I decided to call 7 other places from Santa Rosa to Novato and every one of them quoted me 25 dollars except one (40). When I called the store to inquire why it was so expensive she said you get their quality of work and that's their price. Sooo what your saying is that all of the other 4 and 5 star alteration businesses are giving low quality work and your the top of the heap? I have used Sewing Just 4 U before and never had a problem with this company until today...My problem with this company is entirely based on their poor communication/customer service. On September 27, 2016, I took a suit to SJ4U to have a jacket and pants let out a bit. The man working told me he was doubtful they could let my suit out because it did not look like it had enough material left to do so. I was told they would check anyways and to call back in 2 weeks. I called back on October 11th as asked to do. When I called, a lady working there informed me my suit was not on the "finished rack" and she would let me know when it was finished. Another week goes by and I've heard nothing. I called again and got the same story. At this point I'm starting to wonder if my suit will be ready by the date I need it (10/29.) This morning, (10/22) I called and it was still the same story of not being on the "finished rack". Now I'm really getting worried because my sister's wedding is a week from today and I have heard the same story for several weeks. When I called this morning (10/22) I told the afore mentioned lady I need my suit by the following Tuesday (10/25). She said no problem. Later on, around 3 PM that day, the lady called me back and told me there is nothing they can do with my suit AND claims to have called me 2 days after I initially brought the suit in. Logically speaking, if they had actually called 2 days after I initially dropped off my suit, wouldn't it have been on the "finished rack" or better yet, wouldn't they have been able to inform me my suit could not be altered on one of the three previous phone calls I made? At this point, I am very dissatisfied with this business. I am not criticizing the quality of their work, just their customer service. As mentioned before, I have used them before and had no problems. This time however, I feel like they completely dropped the ball on communication with me. I will never take my clothes to them for future alterations. UPDATE: 10/25/16. I picked up my suit today. The lady working there apologized for the "miscommunication". My suit was on a rack IN PLAIN VIEW as I walked in the door. Again, I really don't understand how they were unable to identify it and let me know to pick it up sooner. I will not be taking my clothes to this business ever again. I don't care how good their workmanship is. A month and a half after asking for three dresses to be altered to for breastfeeding I got them back after returning them once to finish the job and only one is wearable without further work. Luckily my mom is in town and willing to do it for me because at this point I will never step foot in this business again. I realize that my request was outside "normal" alterations but if you don't think you can do a job say so, don't half ass it. Eye hooks are visible on all the dresses, the fabric gaps because even though I asked for three eye hooks to be placed only two were, edges don't match, I added unflattering photos. Also they were returned the first time because only one side was altered...for breastfeeding, so yeah seventy five dollars of learning experience for the other three dresses I need altered. read more

Excellent work! I bought a leather jacket I loved and really wanted it to fit perfect, but it didn't; to have enough room in the shoulders, it was loose thru the stomach area and not flattering. I needed someone to take the sides in. I took a chance on Sewing Just 4 U. So glad I did. He didn't just take in the side seams, he did the seams in the back of the jacket, plus the lining, which was much more complicated but came out perfect. The jacket looks like it was made for me. I have rarely written a bad review, but the poor performance of this establishment cannot be overlooked. Ten years ago, I did quite of lot of business with Sewing Just 4U. Thought I would give them another try as they are a little closer to my home than my current seamstress whose lead-times are getting a little long. The project was hemming two pairs of work pants. The changing room and fitting area are good. $25 price per pair is $8 higher than what I am currently paying, but they noticed the heel-guards at the hem and offered to move them, so i justified it. Two weeks was longer than I had hoped, but the same as my other shop. Showed up on the afternoon noted on my receipt to learn that they were not ready. Picked up the pants today. Work is good quality, but no heel guards. Strike one. Late: Strike two. Overpriced: Strike three. Though I could find nothing posted, they do not accept checks = thrown out of the game. On top of it all, you need to pay for metered parking. See no reason to patronize Sewing Just 4 U. Sad about this. read more

I had a bad experience here about a year ago and had meant to post but never got around to it. I had a pair of jeans I wanted hemmed and made from flares to straight legs. I dropped it off and they told me it would be ready on Saturday. I came into the store on Saturday with my receipt and after looking around in the back for a few minutes, I was told that my pants wouldn't be ready until the next day. I show up the next day and my pants are finally ready, although they did not acknowledge that they were a day late. I try the pants on later to see that they are hemmed and straight legged, but there is a one inch hole down the seam on one of the legs. An area where they did not stitch at all. Instead of taking it back, I sewed the hole myself. I'm still searching for a good tailor. read more
