We've been in our house for 44+ years. We have a big, front, exterior, double-wide door that we've been thinking about replacing for a long long time but never was able to make it happen. They used to be located in Dublin but moved to San Ramon near the Brass Door. This is a small family-run business. Mary, the wife runs the office and Matt, her husband does the estimates and runs the crew that do the install work. We found Mary to be low-key but very helpful. We liked that she did not push us toward any specific products. She let us take our time in choosing the door of our choice. Everything went smoothly. We chose the doors (unfinished, solid wood, double doors) and Matt came out to check what we had and Mary sent us a quote by email and followed up to see if we had any questions. Later, we confirmed our choice on the door and after a few weeks, Mary called to tell us that our doors had arrived from the factory and proceeded to schedule out the job. The installation was quick and flawless. The workmanship is First Class and they were done in less than a full day. The fit was perfect and we were very very pleased. Too bad the company that we hired to paint the new doors was not as proficient and skilled. It took me a year to decide on the right supplier to upgrade 8 interior doors for our townhouse. I had a huge learning curve as all this was all new to me. By the time I found Mary and Matt I had done quite a bit of research, even pulled out of final discussions underway with a general contracter. I'm very glad I did. Mary helped me order the product and Matt and his team did an excellent job installing all of them. And what a difference they have made in my home...well worth the money (very competitive) and time. Elegant is the best word to describe the final look. But do be prepared for a lenghty process because once they are installed they need to be painted. I asked if that could be reversed, but learned that is the process. We went with their painter Russ who did a wonderful job, but took quite some time as he essentially works alone. He needed to then remove all the doors, cover all the new fixtures, spray paint them in our garage, and then rehang. He also had to fix some over caulking when the pre-hung casings were installed and touch up some wall area where the new door casings weren't quite the same size. Also, we had one louver door that we needed to buy from another supplier because of price. It was unfortunate they were not willing to still do the casing work, but it all worked out in the end. All in all I'm thrilled with the result and can highly recommend them. read more

You know the saying, 'You get what you pay for"? That is exactly the case with these folks. The first word that comes to mind is "craftsmanship". If you want a door that people notice and comment on when approaching your home, then you should contact Mary and Matt. We selected a Simpson door made of alder and alder jams. We got to select the stain color from samples and a high end lockset that was installed on the door when they arrived. The door is stunning and we could not be happier. The process took a couple of months for the door to arrive, get stained and pre-hung, and then installed, but it was totally worth the wait. read more

Mary and Matt were a joy to work with. We hired them to put a new barn door in our home. Mary worked with us on barn door designs and Matt did the measurements and installation. Our installation was a little tricky in that Matt had lower the threshold in our door a bit for the doors to properly fit. They gave extremely fair and reasonable prices compared to doors you'd find at Lowe's or Home Depot. When you factor in the work Matt put in, I'd consider this a bargain! I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for barn doors (or any doors) for the home. My one piece of advice is to have them paint the doors for you. So after the weather heated up a bit, we noticed the door glass would emit a lot of heat when getting direct sun. I thought that's odd, I thought the door glass was efficient. Come to find out Plastpro isn't so clear on their efficiency ratings and door specs. After speaking with the manufacturer on this issue, I found out none of their doors with decorative glass have a lowE coating or argon gas in between the panes. This means the glass portion of the door is not so efficient. Fortunately we found a relatively inexpensive way to fix this which was to find a reputable company to install a high quality window film that rejects solar heat. It was just a little disappointing that we needed to have that done so soon after having our new door installed. This is something to consider when looking at doors with glass without lowE or argon. Otherwise a fiberglass door is extremely efficient and doesn't transfer heat when getting direct sun on a hot day. Other than that the door looks and functions great, and the install job was done well. read more

Love, Love our new front door! We went from old double doors to this large single. Cannot believe how it changes the whole look from the outside. And as a bonus, we get a lot of light filtered through the frosted sidelight. Couldn't be happier with the finished product. I will say it took a little longer than expected. I just have an unpleasant experience with this store. I found an used door on craiglist and it had been posted over 16 days. I spent 4 days to check on this item and was very serious to buy it. It provided all those contact info, phone, address and even the store website. I called and left voice messages couple times and no one returned the call so I emailed them. He finally replied and I asked if he could hold on so my handyman can come and pick up the tomorrow or a day after , I even provided the handyman name and my contact number. Right away, I informed my handyman to go there the next day to pickup The following day he sent me email around noon stating someone will come and see it and if that person decided not to buy it then he will sell it to me. He said I did not sound so serious since I did not come to store to see the item. I said I had been contacted him thought phones and left messages and he was the one never returned the call and with no option that I have to email him. So it is not good enough I left my contact number and send my handyman to pick up? This is the exact wording he said on email, "At least I was honest with you, and I told you that someone may want to buy, and we let you know as a courtesy to see if you were still interested. I didn't need to do that... No more emails please. Have a nice day " After couple email messages with him back and forth, the last reply he said he just sold the item. I checked cragilist today that item is still posted for sale. With all these incidents, it makes you wondering what is going on with this store. What is the purpose to post it on craiglist and then when customer got serious and contacted for pickup and then a day later they declared this item was sold. I discussed with my friend that doing this business and they said this is not good business practice and this is another method on marketing to lure/attract customer to go their store and possible to purchase other expensive items. What kind of business is that? This store does not think craiglist is serious or legit? That is why they could care less about "trust" and customer service? He said craiglist buyer is flaky. As a customer how do we think about this seller posted that on craiglist? If that is why they could not care, then they should not even post their store address and website at all,. I am sharing this experience with you and I will not recommend this store to my friends and coworker. read more

PLS READ. This review is overdue, but I want to share my experience so that no one has to go through what we through. Reading the other negative reviews... Their description of Mary is quite accurate and I'll leave it at that. I'll focus on the job at hand. We hired Matt last October to put in new doors and jams throughout our entire house, including casing around all doors. We ended up going with our own painters because their recommended painter was overpriced and she wasn't able to get a hold of them. We told Matt and Mary we were putting in new floors and described all the work being done on the house so they could coordinate with the other contractors as to who should come first. They didn't ask any follow up question, just stated they should go first. I went to work while the house was worked on assuming they would put the casing all the way to the floor since we were getting them replaced. THEY assumed I was getting carpet and cut the casing short. Leaving gaps in almost every door!! We got laminate floors and he was basically saying laminate was thin and made me feel like it was my fault. A.) I did my part in telling you I was replacing my floors B.) you are the professionals and should be asking these specific questions. It's just so disappointing to have these gaps after spending so much money remodeling your home. In short, one star for being reasonably priced and another star for the fact that the doors were installed fine. Matt attempted to fix by just adding caulk but it looked so bad I told him to just leave it as is. He was a nice guy, I'll give him that. If you decide to go here. Be sure to be specific and ask all your questions up front. Also, don't expect Mary to provide good customer service. read more

My husband and I found Elegant Door and Window in Google maps while in the area shopping for a new door. It was New Years Eve and the shop was closed early for the holiday. We decided to peek through the windows to check out the door displays and Matt (the owner) saw us and opened up shop. He was SUPER helpful and knowledgable about door styles and materials. We ended up being there about 45 minutes getting advice from him for our front door project. We came back a week later to place an order on a beautiful, custom, fiberglass door from GlassCraft Door Company. Matt helped me with every aspect of the order and was very patient with me while I changed my mind on the door color (three times)! The door arrived in two weeks (WAY shorter than the estimated 6-8 week delivery they anticipated). Mary (Matt's wife) called with install dates and a week later they came to the house.
