Very surprised by any low review for this place. I visited with a good friend who has been a customer of theirs for years. Her unique and stylish eyewear has always impressed me - honestly, to the point of being totally jealous. After spending months visiting the usual suspects in northern NJ, I still hadn't been able to find frames that made me feel good. I finally broke down and asked my friend to bring me to her source. I should have just asked at the start because this place completely ended my misery. Now I know! Parking in the area can be challenging, but luckily there is a huge (free) parking lot behind their building that made access very easy from two different streets. I wish finding a seat inside had been as easy! Clearly, folks know this is the spot for fashion frames and I did not get the memo. The store was full on both Saturdays when I visited, but I was happy to wait if it meant getting my hands on the goods. Their selection is unique and largely consists of designers I had never even heard of before. Once I was seated, their optician (Utenzi) and others spent a lot of time focused on me despite the line. After asking what my preferences were, they pulled several options they thought would complement my facial features and complexion. They continued to rotate out and introduce new options based on my feedback. I honestly did feel like I was receiving professional stylist advice, which meant a lot to me. Let me just say that visitors should set their expectations appropriately before heading over. This is a boutique small business that provides quality product, personalized service, and expert knowledge. It was reasonable to me that those things would come at the expense of wait time and price, but may not be ideal for everyone. In the end, I went with frames that were handmade in France ($475 before insurance). I did comparison shop and couldn't find them anywhere else online within the United States. Even on international websites, the price was about the same. I don't switch frames often, so it was important to me that the quality was very reliable. Six months later, I am still very satisfied with my purchase and have had no issues. I highly recommend Elegant Eyes to anyone looking to add a standout accessory to their wardrobe. Enjoy! read more

From the minute I walked in I felt the great vibes. I had originally arranged for a virtual fitting online but since I am nearby and the location is open for in-person visits, I chose to come in. I'm EXTREMELY dissatisfied with Elegant Eyes in East Orange. They screwed up my glasses, putting the wrong Rx in one lens. I asked them if I could have bottle of eye glass cleaner (which sells for $1.00) as a nice gesture for my inconvenience. The so-called manager (Crabal Miller?) decided my time, my headaches, my difficulty driving and walking with the wrong lens wasn't worth $1.00 This was the second time that Elegant Eyes gave me the wrong lens. However the 1st time was at their Newark location. That matter was handled appropriately. But the arrogance, ignorance, and disrespect I encountered today was waaay out of bounds. So sad that a business that used to be so highly regarded has reached this gutter level of customer service. read more

I feel jipped. I had to an eye exam because my son broke my glasses and i currently don't have anything to see with because I'm near sighted and I have astigmatism. I paid my $40 copay no problem. But when I was done and getting ready to get my contacts, i was told since I was a new patient, i HAVE TO order contacts through them and I have to put a down payment on the lenses which I wasn't initially aware of. They would not give me my prescription for my glasses and i told them I didn't have the money to pay right then because I was only expecting to pay the $40 for the trial lenses just to see how I like them as I would at my regular optometrists' office. They said no and I would have to pay at least ANOTHER $60 so now I'm currently without any eye assistance. I'm near sighted and I have astigmatism so it's a struggle and I'm very disappointed because had I'd known up front that this was their policy, I would have never came. read more

The personal service, the staff is friendly and I love that Utenzi and Cabral continue to offer new designers, trendy and classic eye wear for every customer. As much as I wanted to like Elegant Eyes/Utenzi Miller, they drastically missed the mark. With the amount of money they charge, you would expect to be treated with a modicum of decency. The ladies are curt and snappy and lack basic customer service skills. They're quick to charge your credit card and slow to respond. Eyewear is extremely overpriced and they prefer to not bill your insurance. When I inquired as to why Visionworks charges under $100 for my Rx lenses and they quote a price of $400. The reason given was, "because we're an independent business." I recently called to inquire about my order, I was informed that Nicolette shipped my glasses to an incorrect address. When I inquired how the problem would be rectified, I was told we will look into it tomorrow. It's been 5 days and still no response. Major Disappointment!! Well this place doesn't deserve any stars to begin with. I had an incident at the Newark location where Denise was quite rude after realizing she was dealing with someone who wasn't stupid and knew the law. Instead of listening and learning something new, Denise decided to be disrespectful and dismissing me and my problem. So in an effort to give the company a fair chance, and not judge them by one awful employee, I wrote an email on the company website. I was contacted by a Ms. Utensil or something similar and she was by far disgusting!! For starters, when she called, she hadn't taken the time out to fully read or understand the email. When I tried to explain to her my initial problem of them not obeying the set laws she continually cut me off. She proceeded to tell me about certain laws that they abide. When asked where can I find this law, she had no clue. lol it's really sad honestly. She told me to google it and I never found this so called law she was referring to. She never once addressed or apologized for Denise's crappy customer service.. If you had a problem with them or if they are refusing to give you your prescription after an exam Please contact the FTC and file a complaint also follow up with another complaint to the Nj Attorney General of Consumers read more

Was searching for a particular frame that I knew was discontinued. Found it on Elegant Eyes' website. Called to make sure they actually had it, and the man there was extremely rude and proceeded to tell me that the frame was discontinued and no longer available (in an extremely agitated and rude tone). I told him his website shows it as available and that maybe they should remove it, and his reply was "thanks for that suggestion." Nice frames if you want to spend over $500. for them. They refuse to give you your prescription because they know you can buy the same frames online a lot cheaper. They pretend to take your vision plan but tack on extra fees. When you ask for the frames your vision plan covers they give you some irregular defective frame and refuse to replace them. Also there Dr. said my eyes were healthy when I suffer from chronic dry eye and other issues which my opthamologist has been treating me for many years, yet he did not detect anything. They use fly by night people to stop in periodically and do thier exams. His only purpose was to get a script so you can purchase overpriced frames. read more

The last time I was there I was serviced by Utenzi and her selections of frames were impeccable, its like she knew me and my face and what I liked and what would fit me immediately. Everyone was super friendly and I received A+ customer service. Its not my first time at the establishment I have 10 pairs of sunglasses I have purchased over the yrs and I have never seen my any of my frames on anyone's face except for Amber Rose!! I visited this business today (3/6/15) to simple view their selection of frames. I walked in, spoke with a man at the front desk and told him that I would like to take a look at their frame selection. He directed me to take a seat at the counter where all the frames were and he pulled out some trays of frames. Five minutes later he comes back and puts the frames away w/o asking was I finished or anything. He tells me they don't normally show frames to people until they have their prescription and insurance information. He knew that all I wanted to do was look at frames before he told me to sit at the counter. After I called his out for his rude behaviour, nasty demeanor and poor customer service, he reveals to me that he is the owner. He did not apologize for the way that he treated me. He is disgustingly rude and I will never, ever visit or purchase anything from this location. Additionally, I will make sure that anyone that I know will never support this business.
