lash lift: genuinely the worst lash lift I've ever had in my life. Not only are my lashes not lifted, but they are actually somehow shorter than before the last lift. I wish there was a way to rate this lash lift a 0/5. I've had a lot of lash lifts from other places and I have no idea what they did to me, I was literally left in a dark room with stuff on my eyes for 30 minutes I'm so confused- I wish I could get a refund genuinely half of my eyelashes are burnt off. I was walking home and decided to get my nails done since it's been awhile. I just wanted a simple manicure and did some research before deciding to come here. The price for a regular manicure is $15 and it was worth every penny. I am so happy with how it turned out. The spa is located on the 2nd floor and is very bright and clean. I was the only one there which kinda had me wondering. But eventually someone else came in who seemed to be a regular. I want to shout out Lupe for the attention to detail and care she put into my manicure. (Even if it was only just a regular manicure it was greatly appreciated). If you were considering them for a lash lift... here is a piece of advise, don't go. I made an appointment and it went horrible. I have natural long lashes and I was looking to just curl them, the girl didn't explain that much and I patiently waited until she was done to find out that my lashes were not only literally bent like a 90 degree angle but also they were weirdly pointing to a side, when I asked her she couldn't explain herself, I didn't want to give her a hard time and I thought that maybe it was because it was just done and perhaps when I would wash my face it would be fine, but it wasn't, they were horrible, ridiculous, when I put mascara it was even worse, I called them the next day and the woman told me that she would fix them, and we made another appointment (I know is not recommended to do it twice in a row but they looked so bad that I had to do it) the next day, it was pouring rain although it took me 45' to get to the UES I got there to find out that the place was closed, one hour earlier than they supposed to close and with my appointment on the books!! they didn't even care to call me or text me... the worst part is that when I called back next day they were not even apologetic they asked me to send pictures, they refused to connect me with the manager, and when I sent the pictures they said that it looked good, I was so frustrated and upset, they denied to refund me, they wanted me to go back to the UES (another 45' commute) to see it, even after sending pictures, the manager said that she would call me and they didn't, they wanted me to call (I did, many times!) they wanted me to go (I did, with an appointment and they were closed!) and still no refund and not even an apology... I decided to go somewhere else to fix it and she did an awesome job, my new girl was shocked of how bad my lashes were done, she couldn't even explain how can somebody did it that wrong. I found Element on Groupon and purchased gel manicure deal for a very reasonable $21. I walked in on a late Saturday afternoon and the women were all very warm and friendly from the minute I arrived, without an appointment. They made sure I was comfortable and provided a pillow on the the chair which was great. They were a little disorganized to start, and asked me which color 4 times (which I pointed out and confirmed as an OPI lavendar), yet later started to paint my first nail black before I stopped them. The manicure was a little sloppy until the owner stepped in to help fix because the gel top coat was also dried over part of my finger tips and under my nail. The gel manicure took longer than expected (~1.5hr), but they do take their time if that's what you're looking for. They use a nice hand scrub and give a short complimentary massage after which was nice. My fingertips are a little sore/dry two days later because the owner had to file off that gel top coat off but overall the end result aesthetically met expectations and the price with the Groupon was great. read more

The absolute worst gel manicure I've ever had in my life. The technician was incredibly rough, and cut my skin when she was doing my cuticles on almost every finger. When I would react, pull my finger back, or said "ooh" or "ow," she didn't say anything or change what she was doing at all. On top of that, this was the messiest manicure I've ever received. On every nail, she got polish on my skin and had to wipe it off with nail polish remover every time. The end effect is I now have nail polish in the edges around my nails, with gaps in between. I couldn't have had a better experience. From the moment I walked in the women were warm and accommodating. It's a relaxing, clean environment. Nice and quiet with some zen music. They were lovely to chat with as well. I got a gel manicure and it came out beautiful. They had a great selection of colors and were very thorough in making my hands and nails look perfect. So when I try to argue that it wasn't fair because I also had an appointment she was really rude saying if she take me the other person would come at 11am and screams like I was (for the note I wasn't). I used to be a frequent customer of Samina Salon which was here before Element. It wasn't until i came in that i realized it had been renovated. The interior is very relaxing and clean. Amanda did my french pedicure. She did an amazing job and was very friendly. Price was average for Manhattan, if not a little high. After tax it was $40 for a Basic French Pedicure. NOPE! The woman who did my nails kept coughing up a lung then spitting it up. She finally had someone step in for her. When I started a job in a new area of manhattan I tried out several local nail salons and couldn't find anyone I liked. I found all the salons through Groupon of course so It didn't feel like I was throwing money away if the manicure/pedicure came out crappy, or if I wasn't feeling the vibe of the salon I could get a full refund or Groupon bucks for the same amount. Anywho.... I find Element and I'm over the moon! It's very well lit, clean, two stops from my job, the staff is extremely friendly, accommodating and warm plus they do an excellent job with their gel manicures, not to mention their massages and waxing isn't bad either! Now normally when I go to Element I receive 2/3 of these services and I've been a regular pretty much since the first week of February. I loved this salon that much, so my review was originally a five star I've been meaning to write until today......4/20/2018 Element had a promotion going on that they didn't really clarify with the clients or was trying to see what worked for the salon profit wise. Either way, I was originally told they'd give you the same rate as your Groupon if you brought ONE gel manicure in advance, so I did It. Several times. Up to my last two visits because I simply forgot to buy in advance rushing out to get back to work. Fast forward to today, the woman who normally does my massage and waxing is not there, her sister is standing in for her instead. She asks when I come in if I have a Groupon I say yes because typically the deal I'm receiving is a Groupon rate. When It comes time to pay she tells me the promotion I was told about isn't valid because they aren't affiliated with Groupon anymore.....I'm confused what does Groupon have to do with anything? I tell her about the promotion her sister told me about and she basically states it's untrue, their gel manicure is easily $50 but she'll give me a discount and only charge me $37.....the Groupon rate is $23....that's a big difference. So I tell her that's too high considering I spend over $50 here every week and the tip is easily 20% or better, then I ask her to call their other salon in Astoria and ask her sister. They speak in Spanish and she doesn't know I understand everything she's saying. She told her sister that the salon is losing money because of Groupon and that promotion is ridiculous, not even gel manicures in Astoria are so cheap. I guess her sister agrees and she tells me this is the final gel manicure I can receive for $23. That's fine with me hunni, I have to get back to work and this conversation is taking longer than expected. Before I could ask if she could put the tip on the card because I didn't have cash, she runs the card and proceeds to tell me about a similar promotion they have, gel manicures for $23 but it's in packages of 5 or more and placed on a gift card to be used within a year. Well that would've been nice to know prior to this convo but It feels a little tainted now. I'll probably update this review in the future because I love their massages and finding another bikini waxer seems annoying lol. To be continued.... read more

I've been to a couple and it's always rushed and careless and last less than a week! The lady (idk her name, but she's the manager/ owner) is very sweet and hospitable. This was not only the best facial I have ever had, it was the best beauty service I have ever received! Belen is easy to talk to, very knowledgeable and performs a superb facial! I did the deep pore cleanse one-hour facial and she was very thorough in cleaning out all of my pores. She also gives a great, head and neck massage and stretches out your limbs..which feels amazing. I really wanted to like this place because the women who work here seem nice, and it's clean and pleasant, but they just don't seem to know how to do gel manicures. I went once, the tech put the gel polish on way too thick, and it started peeling the next day. I went back, they were pretty easy about re-doing my nails - even letting me choose a different color - but it's been 2 hours since the re-do and the gel is lifting again. The second tech painted the clear gel past my nail and on to my skin, so the clear and color are now peeling. After paying $35 + $7 tip, and tipping the second nail tech another $5, I'd rather just go elsewhere and pay to have the manicure re-done well. Disappointing, because I'm always looking for a reliable nail salon on the UES. read more

The salon is nice and clean, but the staff are not the friendliest. If you are trying to have a relaxing day you should avoid this place. The person who did my nails seemed to be a little off, she prioritizes speed over quality work. None of my cuticles were cut properly and the color was done very very poorly. They spoke about me the whole time in Spanish and she doesn't know that i understood everything she said, All i wanted to relax but simply could not. It seemed clean at first but it is not. The place was hard to find it's on the second floor. Never the less the experience was good. They're very friendly and she made me try few shades and mixed some color for me. They also give good hand massage with lotion and warm towels after. They also gave me few tips on how to take care of my weak nails and how to take off the nail gel by my own. They're super nice. I'll come back given the chance. They did pretty well with my nails too and I loved the shade I got from them as well coz they tried to get the right shade I want and tried mixing some shades for me. What a great find! My sister-in-law and I were looking for a place today (Saturday) and really lucked out that this place had openings for us. We got the regular pedicure and I got a gel manicure and she got dipped tips gel manicure. My SIL said that this is the first time she's gotten artificial nails without the process hurting at all. Our pedicures were great too and the massages were so relaxing. Our technicians were super friendly, fun to chat with, and a real pleasure.
