Don't get me started on the weird sticky lotion used... just an awful experience. I wanted to leave the table 5 minutes in when I realized this therapist didn't know what she was doing but I felt bad. I thought she might have been a new student but when I asked the front desk, they said no - and gave me the rate of a member as if that would help me regain the most awkward hour on a massage table. I have been going to this Elements Massage monthly for six or seven years. I have had issues with their COVID safety protocols before. When I went to get my massage today, I asked the assistant manager whether or not my therapist was vaccinated. She had a fit, yelling at me about HIPAA violations. I then asked, "Do you have a policy about your employees needing to be vaccinated?" "No," she said. It is not a HIPAA violation to ask your massage therapist whether or not they are vaccinated. It is also not a HIPAA violation for the managers of this practice to ask their employees if they have been vaccinated. The answer is yes or no. If clients ask, a mature, professioal manager would simply say, "We do not require vaccination from our employees but you're free to ask your individual therapist if she is. I cannot share that information." Not only did this unmasked manager spew at me obsessively repeating "HIPAA violation" she also responded, "No, we aren't" when I said that we are in the middle of a pandemic. Really? A quick glance at the headlines, let alone a quick check of the MA website on COVID transmission, shows that we are very much in the middle of a pandemic. She also yelled "THIS IS AMERICA" at me at one point... all of which leads me to assume that this person is not getting her pandemic information from reliable sources. Massage at Elements involves being in a tiny room with another person in extremely close proximity for an hour. I will get massages from a practice where the managers and therapists freely share their vaccination status and understand that we are absolutely in the middle of a pandemic. I just personally don't think this is a great massage place. I was in there today and we walked in. There was no music so it was just painfully silent. Also you don't fill out all the paper work so they don't know what areas to work on. So as I'm sitting there we talk about it which is super awkward in the room. Anyways, the whole time she was asking me questions. Oh do you want this? Do you want that? But if all those questions have been answered beforehand then we wouldn't have these awkward moments. Right at the end as I'm getting my clothes on she walks in just as I pulled my pants up and I'm trying to get my socks on. The masseuse was sitting there. UPDATE: On the day I wrote this review i. January, I cancelled my membership. They are still taking the money out of my account. Now filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Terminated my membership after over 3 years. The last straw of many things was someone phoned me at 7:54 pm on a Sunday night when I was with family & friends to try to book an appt. Prior to that, made an appt, with a woman drove 18 miles & then when I got there, they said there wasn't a female available. Bait & switched me with a male. Bought a couples gift card before Covid. Called to say I couldn't locate the gift card, was told I was in the computer could come and they would honor it. Went for a couples massage, when it was time to check out was basically told they had no record on file, if I couldn't provide any proof my credit card card on file would be charged. I spoke to the manager working that day, she said she needed proof a bank record or receipt. I explained to her I had called and was told to just let them know when it was time to pay. I was treated like a liar and had to pay again no apologies. I will never go back. I wish I didn't have to give any stars because I didn't actually receive a massage. I called, made an appointment, and was told to show up 5-10 minutes before my massage. I walked in this morning 12 minutes early and was told that my name was not in for any appointments now or in the near future. She asked if I'd called the right Elements, so I read her the phone number I called, and she confirmed it was correct. She asked what time I called and I told her - it was still in my phone record. She said they were booked up the rest of the day and tomorrow and offered to reschedule later in the week. Unfortunately my work schedule is ridiculous and I'd made my appointment - I wanted my massage for the time it was scheduled! I cannot come in during the week. To her credit, the girl at the front desk seemed apologetic, and said she'd like to see if any of the therapists could stay late tonight to fit me in. I'm leaving town this afternoon so that's not an option. What really surprised me is that there was nothing complimentary for my troubles. It seems ridiculous that they let me walk out without comping a massage or at least giving a gift certificate. I certainly won't be making another appointment because who knows if I'd actually get my massage or not. I guess I will be taking my twice-monthly massage business elsewhere. read more

After reading my review, the manager called me and apologized profusely. She invited me to come back for a complimentary massage with Wendy, the lead therapist and someone who specializes in prenatal massage. I went and things were vastly different. The massage was very relaxing, the lighting and atmosphere were very nice and Wendy did a great job reducing some pregnancy related stress. I am so happy I found this place. i happened to have won a 3 pack of gift certificates for a free 55 minute massage. This is the best thing I have done for myself in a very long time. I am the first to YELP about bad service... This is absolutley not the case at Elements in Swampscott. I arrived about an hour earlier then what I had scheduled, I am a business owner and so crazy busy, I forgot what time my appointment was, The girl at the front office could tell i wa stressed and asked me if I would like to see someone else, I said that would be great. It was clean, beautifully decorated and the wait area was lovely... I had the absolutely most relaxing massage... i was so relaxed from head to toe by the time I left. Kimberly was amazing, the room was so quiet, I thought I was transported to a tropical paridise. Birds were softly chirping in the background, and there was soft mystical music playing. Beware when booking a membership that it is not as easy as they say for you to cancel. I was told I should have read the fine print. I went there for a while and had several very good massages. At a certain point, I decided to cancel and explained why in great detail to the person who identified herself as the manager. She never mentioned I needed to fill out a form to cancel. I didn't return until I had a single visit in January 2020, I was told I had 11 visits left. What?? It turns out they never cancelled me but instead continued to bill me every month. Yes, I should have been paying closer attention but because I was sure I'd cancelled, I wasn't looking for any new charges. Eventually, I spoke to the manager and the situation was ironed out. I'm happy with the conclusion and plan on going there again. Two takeaways: you need a form to cancel AND check your statement to make sure the cancellation happens. read more

Let me start off by saying, Zack is an amazing massage therapist. I started seeing him January 2020 and even set up a membership there so I could get a massage every month. Then of course covid hit, but I kept my membership active so I would accrue sessions to use when they finally opened back up.. which I did. I went every month up until December 2020. At that time, money was getting tight for me, so I decided to cancel my membership. They informed me that due to their "cancellation policy" I would still be charged for January, since I was cancelling mid-December. I said that was fine, and filled out their cancellation form stating my last charge would be Jan 1, 2021. Now here we are, on Feb 1. 2021 and I just woke up to another charge from them. This obviously took me by surprise, and it is incredibly inconvenient, again because money is tight- my rent was due today, and I have multiple other bills to be paid this week as well using my last paycheck. I plan on calling when they open, and I better get a refund. Otherwise, I'll be disputing this charge with my bank. read more

On a whim I went to elements last night. They thankfully had a late opening left with Vincent. When he came out he had tattoos on his arms and I couldn't picture him being this relaxing massage therapist. Boy I was wrong. He showed me to the room l, assessed my needs and then left to let me get changed. When he came back he shut off every light. Amazingly relaxing. I swear this man has magic hands. The next 80 minutes were pure bliss. One should never judge a book by its cover( a lesson I learned again last night). I'm sore today but I did ask for a deep massage on certain areas. I tried this place out about a month ago. I was having some terrible neck pain, I called ahead to see if there was a therapist in who could help work out some of the tension. I got there, the girls at reception were really sweet. However, after explaining the neck pain to my therapist, and getting assurance that he would work on it, he spent maybe 5 minutes on it and applied zero pressure, and I unfortunately I left with no relief. Worst Customer Service Made special appointments weeks prior for two on Mother's Day. Got a message the night before that one of the therapists booked was not available. No big deal. Then I called to confirm and was told NO therapist was available...good thing my cousin and I didn't show up. They just said they were booked.. no offer of another time, a discount to make up for the inconvenience...just nothing available. I have no idea of the massage experience, and never will. I bought a buy one get one half off 90 minute massage with CAROL, and when I arrived was told she had fibromyalgia and could only do a 60 minute massage. They refused to give me money back or credit for the extra 30 minutes, and insisted hot stones in a 60 minute massage would make up for the extra 30 minutes I paid for. The stones did basically nothing and weren't even most of them time, not to mention I didn't even want them. Also CAROL, was beyond rude throughout the whole experience. She yelled at me for moving on the table because it was a very deep massage I was not ready for. The ladies at the front desk recommend her even though I had no knowledge she was the highest level masseuse they had. Absolute worst customer service. The massage was OK, but I no longer wanted to keep my membership for financial reasons. When I signed up for a membership, the women at the front desk said that you can "cancel anytime you'd like before the 1st of the month each month" and there are no fees associated with cancelling. Except when I called to cancel, they asked me multiple times why I was cancelling (and even called back again) and said that you have to cancel 30 days in advance to not be charged on the first. How does that make any sense? You'd always get charged for a month you don't want if that's the case. Manager who called hung up on me at the end of the phone call and apparently those I had spoken to before were telling incorrect information to their customers. Awful. Take your money elsewhere, there are places with just as good massages and 100x better customer service! read more

I have a membership and often use my one massage up and get another, frequently turning it into an 80 minute. Raquel, my favorite therapist, is attentive and really focuses on my tough stress knots in my neck. My daughter often asks for massages as gifts, so she's addicted now too! I have had a couple of misfires, particularly with a talkative male masseuse, but they comped me a massage when I expressed my displeasure. Great customer service! read more

I'll start off by saying that it was my fault for showing up late to my appointment - however, other places have given me another chance to reschedule without charging me if I was a first time customer. Things happen and I called in to say I was coming in late and she said she'd let the masseuse know; I drove like my life depended on it to get to the place only for her to tell me she cant take me and that I'll be charged the full amount. I was NOT told this as part of the policy, only that if I wanted to cancel I would do it 24 hours ahead. They didn't even offer to give me a massage with someone else or gave me a chance to reschedule without being charged and charged me for a massage I NEVER got. I was a new customer trying the place out and would've been a regular, but this isn't how you treat a new customer if you want them to stay with your business - you don't charge them for a service they never got. Stretching helps, but decided to go to Elements to straighten myself out. Let me tell you, this was the best decision I've made in a very long time. My masseuse, Kelly, was professional and so extremely competent in taking all the stress, tension, and tightness out of my back, shoulders, and neck. She has hands of magic. certain franchises are ill-suited for the service industry. This is a prime example. As expensive as massage therapy is, ask for referrals.

I like to consider myself somewhat of a massage "connoisseur" being that I used to work at a spa in Southern California and have had many, many massages in various parts of the country. As a new customer at any spa, you may need to visit a few times with a few different therapists until you find your right match. I am a little leery of Spa Chains since I had a horrifying experience at a Spa Envy 4 years ago. That being said Elements is pretty good. I purchased a membership last year and I have had seen 4 different therapists there (for deep tissue massage) and Niquila is IMO, the best! They always ask what they can help with before the session starts but I feel Niquila really listens and works really hard to resolve any issues and-she is very strong. The other three therapists were OK. One of the others (a male) who is not there any more, talked way too much for my liking which is why I switched. The other male had extremely rough hands which limited the enjoyment for me. All in all, I think the place is fine-just depends on what you prefer. I also think 60 mins is not a long enough massage and if you have some tough back issues, 80 minutes gives plenty of time to work out the kinks. I had been looking for a new massage therapist because the business I frequented moved a considerable distance away. I visited Elements prior to booking an appointment and had a tour. The rooms and waiting area were beautiful. The receptionist was friendly and appeared knowledgeable. I booked a massage for myself and husband and was very specific about no male therapists. She assured me that it was no problem two female therapists were on at the same time as the appointments. On the day of the appointment I filled out the usual health paperwork. A female therapist came and got my husband and I was left in the waiting room. A short time later a man came out from where the therapy rooms were and went out to the receptionist and was making small talk for about 5 minutes. He than approached me and asked if I was ready. I asked him ready for what? He said your massage. I told him I specifically asked for two females for myself and husband. He said oh, I'm not offended you don't want me. He went to the receptionist and told her and she approached me and said I wll call my manager but I don't have another female here right now. Several things bothered me. It appeared like they were aware of my request but just assumed that I would take the massage anyhow. I had to wait for my husband for the 55 minutes. When my husband came out after his massage to pay, the receptionist asked about a gratuity! How tacky to ask! My husband said the massage therapist was chatty and had her license for two months. He said the massage was not what he was used to. If I hadn't taken the time to visit and ask questions it might not have bothered me so much. I will continue my quest. If I am not successful I will be traveling the distance to get top notch massage! read more
