I resisted getting reading glass for as long as I could, and even then (15-20 years ago now), wore them as little as possible. The advent of iPads with backlight and large fonts made it a whole lot easier, and yet... it was clear my eyesight was getting worse and going to lead to problems. In searching for an eye doc to simply get an exam (make sure there were not cataracts and such), I came across Larry, doing this OrthoK thing that, once I read about it, I knew was right up my alley (being a holistic health practitioner myself). I had my first exam, which showed no cataracts or other medical issues, but exposed some serious deficiencies in my eyesight and the ways I was compensating for them. It took a year to finally make the commitment, but I'm sure glad I did. OrthoK is a fabulous approach to correcting vision. Completely non-invasive, and today I "graduated" to my final lenses that I will now wear every night to maintain the obvious corrections my eyes have gone through during this process. I can now read restaurant menus and books comfortably (I've even made the font smaller on my iPad! ), and can tell when squeezed behind my TV and stereo which plugs are inputs and which are outputs. They are spectacular here. They really care about their clients and customer service. Myself and the majority of my family have been going to them for over 15 years. My first experience with them was my childhood vision therapy. They were able to actually figure out why I couldn't read (whereas everyone else could only say that I had a learning disability--duh!) and helped me fix the problem with their vision therapy/eye exercise training. Also, they give a comprehensive eye exam and offer much more than just glasses (although they offer those too!) I have been going to them for years specifically for Orthokeratology--lenses that shape one's eyes during the night. This leaves me glasses free! And I love it. When I wore glasses, my eyes got worse by the day. I got to the point where I could not drive at night because I didn't feel like I was safe on the road and I had almost no peripheral vision either. I wore contact lenses for many years, both hard and soft, and had to put up with the usual discomforts from overuse, dust under the lenses, windy days, open car windows, allergies, having them move off center, blurry vision after they were out, not to mention how many lenses I have lost over the years. When laser eye surgery became available, I was hopeful. I am careful to do a little research into new health procedures before I try them--especially when it comes to slicing and peeling my corneas! I discovered that I would probably need reading glasses, the surgery cannot be reversed, there can be over or under correction, corneal scarring and more. I know 5 people who have had this surgery and 3 have had one or more problems. Finally, I heard about Orthokeratology--non-surgical vision correction. And it was amazing. I could see without correction the very next day. Even though I had to try a few different lenses (worn at night) until I got the ones I have now. The amount of time it takes me to put them in, take them out and clean them is 2 minutes--1 minute to put them in at night and 1 minute (or less) to take them out and clean them in the morning. I am truly surprised that more people don't know about Orthokeratology. In 2009 I had a meningitis-like infection that affected both my brain and vision and I went to Dr. Jebrock to check out what was going on in my eyes. Other than some "innocent opaque spots", he could not find anything wrong and proposed night lenses. My vision had deteriorated overnight to seeing just half of what I saw before. Somehow he convinced me to go along with the lenses and eye-exercises (which of course do not help in case of an infection). The "opaque spots" turned out to be cataracts and I turn out to also have Sjogren's syndrome, which makes the eyes very dry (not a good thing to combine with lenses). (This all later diagnosed by an ophtalmologist). The "lens therapy" was supposed to be sorted in a few weeks, but four months later I was sent away with lenses that completely warped my vision and actually made me see less than without the lenses. From his point of view Dr. Jebrock did everything to get " the right treatment" and the Licensing Board thinks this is all OK and could not find anything wrong ... I would advise to please judge for yourself and stay clear of this "Dr" if you have any medical issues with your eyes. read more

My son was diagnosed with Strabismus at the age of 5. One of his eyes crossed in. We were sent to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist and were under his care for 2 years. Over that time my son's vision decreased and the crossing became worse. The Dr. said this was all normal, that exercises wouldn't help and that he was happy with it. I was not. I was referred by a friend to Dr. Jebrock and this man saved my son's vision. By the time we saw Dr. Jebrock, my son's vision was very poor and his brain was suppressing (not using) the crossed eye and he had no depth perception. Dr. Jebrock outlined a plan for vision therapy. Over the next 6 weeks we visited once a week for therapy sessions and my son had exercises to do at home. The results were very exciting. His vision improved, he gained control over the eye that was now rarely crossing and his brain stopped suppressing the vision in that eye. Dr. Jebrock then outlined 8 more session every other week. We finished those sessions and at his evaluation appointment I literally cried. His vision is fantastic. He was hitting top scores and reading teeny tiny print. He can do those 3 D, relax your eyes and something jumps out at you puzzles with ease. He has depth perception!!!! He no longer suffers from blurry vision even without his glasses and his eye is no longer crossing. We are now on a maintenance schedule, visiting periodically but not under continual care. My daughter Nikki is a competitive diver(12 years old). When we where at a meet a father came up to me and said he heard that Nikki wears disposable contacts while diving. It's basically a miracle. I had never heard of orthokeratology, and was looking for groupons for lasik surgery. However, I was very fearful of having lasik done because some people have negative, and sometimes crippling, side effects for their entire lives. I was relieved to come across Dr. Jebrock's services, and after a single visit signed up for the procedure right away. As I had been mulling over lasik for years, this was a no brainer. I was impressed because Dr. Jebrock has a genuine interest in holistic and preventative healthcare. He's also a really nice guy. I got my first pair of glasses when I was five years old and wore contact lenses for twenty years until I became intolerant, so I am not a newbie to eye exams. However, the exams I was administered in dr. Jebrock's office struck me as much more informative about my eyes, providing info on the location of my blind spot, my abilities in peripheral vision, and muscular weaknesses in my eyes. I am a 30 something female who exercises regularly, but this opened up an entire new world of eye fitness. I went home and googled eye exercises, and starting learning more about eye fitness. I was never comfortable in my glasses, which Jebrock said was probably a strain due to the fact that my two eyes have very different prescriptions from each other... Another revelation! A week or two after my initial exam, I got my first pair of lenses. I wore them that night, and the miracle happened. I took them off in the morning, and I could see! I even rode my bike to yoga in downtown San Francisco! What an amazing miracle. I feel so much better in the world. The drawbacks... The lenses take time to get used to. They still feel dry at night before I go to bed, but not once I close my eyes. Also, this basically makes you a contact lens wearer again, but the schedule is better than daytime lenses... As a writer, working on the computer is more than essential. So is being able to read printed text clearly. I needed two different pairs of glasses.... Twice as many glasses to misplace! Dr. Jebrock fitted me with a wonderful pair of progressive lenses. Now I can work at the computer AND also read printed text using the same pair of glasses! Dr. Jebrock is kind, knowledgeable, and very thorough. My eye exam included test for glaucoma, cataracts, as well as testing to see how well my eyes work in conjunction with each other. I started the vision down-slide about 5 years ago. Ive had trouble with my eyes / contacts / glasses and doctors for far too long. I heard about lenses that are worn while sleeping to re-shape the eye. It sounded bizarre, and I asked the THREE ophthalmologists I saw over the years (one, who specialized in contacts) if it might be an option for me. They all shot me down hard. My entire experience at Dr. Jebrock's office has been beneficial and rewarding. I initially came to see him a few years ago, and was looking for a laser-free alternative to correcting my myopia. He gives very thorough eye exams. The eye exercises are amazing once you start them and be consistent, you do feel (and see) a difference in your vision. Some of them require minimal equipment, but others you can do anywhere with no equipment. However, consistency is key otherwise you get nowhere with the exercises. A lot like skipping days at the gym. Natalie worked with me on the eye exercises and she was very patient and polite, and very informative and I appreciate that. Natalie also does some of the eye exam steps before you see Dr. Jebrock, and she's always patient and considerate. I started my orthokeratology with him, using hard, gas-permeable lenses that I wear 6-8 hours each night. My vision improved to 20/20 overnight, which is amazing to me considering all I do is wear contacts at night and nothing all day. They are somewhat uncomfortable but the benefits outweigh any discomfort. I see a lot clearer after wearing the lenses than with any prescription glasses I've ever worn, even after increasing the strength. I also bought a pair of glasses tinted with yellow to filter the blue light that apparently kills your eyes slowly over time while you're staring at the computer. There is noticeable relaxation in my eyes, and I forget I'm wearing them after a while. It definitely helps reduce my eye strain. Of my overall experience, what I really appreciate about Dr. Jebrock's office is how much you learn about your eyes. I'd never thought of my eyes as muscles before, that could be strengthened and taken care of without increasing prescriptions or using invasive surgical procedures. I find his technique in teaching people about the eye very subtle and informative, and it makes you more thoughtful and aware of them. He offers a lot of options to correct your vision, but doesn't feel like a salesman or get defensive if you don't take his suggestions, which I've found with other doctors. My impression of my eyes now is that they need consistent care, just like taking vitamins and going to the gym, and that there are effective, gentle ways to care for them that are simple and non-surgical but make huge, noticeable differences. I have to say I'm grateful for that insight. No other eye doctor I've been to has spoken to me about my eyes that way, and has shown my eyes that kind of care and consideration, and I'm terribly appreciative of that. It is an investment (hard lenses are not cheap), but considering what I could frivolously spend my money on over time, this has to be one of the best investments I've ever made for my health. I brought my son here because his vision started getting worse in 7th and 8th grade and it was degrading fast in 9th grade because the progressive lenses he was wearing was making him more myopic and it was hastening the worsening of his eye sight. Dr. Jebrock and Ortho-K totally corrected my son's strabismus - which improved his vision - and even before we perfected the prescription, my son was seeing better than he could achieve with his soft contacts. He is now close to 20/20 vision and he sees Dr. Jebrock tomorrow with the next improvement.
