BACKGROUND: I was trying to find an optometrist during the last half month of the year to get my eye exam and a new pair of glasses. Of course, everyone had the same thought and I was frantically trying to find a place that had an opening and one that would fit my schedule. I cross reference on VSP and Yelp for good reviews! I filled out their questionnaire to set up an appointment on their website. They called me to schedule an appointment and lucky for me, they had a cancellations the day they called me and it worked for me. Tip: ask to be put on a wait list for cancellations if you are flexible with appointments time and need one before a certain date. EXPERIENCE: 5 stars! I had Marissa Huang and she was sooo nice! I felt like they were considerate of all the covid precautions. I didn't have long waits nor did I feel rushed. I had my routine eye exam with dilation. Picked out a pair of glasses with blue light and anti-refractive coating. It was an easy process. Only thing is I wish they has the circular gold/silver frames. They also don't carry ray-bans. I ordered my glasses and picked it up in 2 weeks. They have their own parking lot. I would recommend this place! read more

When the Drs. Huang were our optometrists, it was great. One retired, one left and the replacement is really young (I don't even know her name). 3 tries to get my Rx right and it never happened. I demanded a refund to my insurance, took my Rx to Costco and purchased 3 pairs of glasses for the price of one at the doctor's office. We'll be searching for a new practice. read more

Jennifer and Joy went above and beyond my expectations with helping me into a new pair of glasses! My glasses were broken by my little guy today and I came in wearing tape on them to hold them together.... if you've own glasses all your life I'm sure it's happened before. I expected to just place an order for a piece and to go back out to the world tape and all but instead I left with a brand new pair. I know this is probably not the norm for everyone but just the fact that they took the time to make sure I left with a working pair shows how much they truly care. I can't say enough about Novato Optometry I only wished that they were the norm but I've been to many and they truly stand out because they are not - they truly care and provide excellent service. I had a very unfortunate experience with Dr Huangs'office specifically her daughter Marissa. I was given the wrong prescription "from 2019" and she noted on it to only fulfill it to October which voided the insurance. I am now out 280.00 in Contact lens benefit and she offered no help to resolve the issue. I just spent 280 worth of my insurance benefit and another 280 out of pocket because the prescription was wrong. To top it off she charged me for an additional eye exam and I was there 6 months ago. Every year I get an eye exam for glasses and contacts. I tried very tactfully to ask if she could help me out and its a big NO. So for our Family its a big loss. I don't know the ins and out s of the insurance as her office does and to void my benefit by their error would have been overlooked had she made any attempt at all to help me out. read more

When we arrived there were two very nice ladies to assist my son and I with out paperwork. All three of the ladies in the office were sensitive to the fact that both my son and I get migraines. They took the testing slow and asked how we were doing and if we needed a break. They let me go back to get my glasses picked out since my head was hurting to much. From the second we stepped into Novato Optometry, my wife, daughters and I felt that we found the optometry practice we were hoping to find for years. We have tried different practices but there was always something lacking. Whether it was the hours to accommodate our busy schedules, the selection of frames, the support of the doctors and staff, the desire to not feel like we were being pushed to buy the most expensive products.... we hadn't found a practice that we felt "at home". Well, that search is over. Novato Optometry has everything we wanted. The staff is amazing and make us feel welcome and important with every visit. The care is outstanding. My youngest daughter and I do not have the best vision and Dr. Huang spent a considerable amount of time testing our eyes, explaining what the tests do, describing why we have these issues and recommending different forms of treatment, care and options. Joy and Veronica and amazing. They are knowledgeable, kind, patient (very important when you have a 6 and 8-year-old), proactive, loving and always available. Both Dr. Huangs are brilliant. They work in conjunction to make sure every possible issue is identified, explained and resolved. They are wonderful with children and (again) very patient. Their selection of frames is phenomenal and they have something for everyone. There is no feeling of upsell at all. In fact, they spent a ton of time with both my daughters to find the best frames. With my youngest daughter, they recommended a pair that was by far the least expensive and looked the best. With my oldest daughter, they ordered multiple frames from their distributor just so she could feel she tried "everything". We are lucky and grateful to be part of this practice. At the end of 2019, Dr Huang pointed me to the sunglasses after I told her I needed to spend the remaining funds on my HSA. I found a pair of sunglasses from their expansive selection and the amazing tech helped me fit my sunglasses. Life was good. Fast forward a few week, I find out non-prescription sunglasses are not covered by HSA. While I probably should have checked this before purchasing the sunglasses, I would have expected Dr. Huang to be more familiar with what is covered by insurance. read more

I have been hesitant to get my prescription updated as just thinking about the eye test & trying to read a chart makes me apprehensive. I was able to look at frames online & finally made an appointment. Was happy to get one for that same day! All staff was super awesome: nice, helpful, kind, thoughtful & good at explaining. After all the eye tests (that weren't so difficult & even a little fun), Veronica pulled down two frames & I liked both of them. She's going to have them send out a blue pair to see if I'd like it better before I finally decide.
