The Managers and employees are always courteous and helpful if needed. They will carry your purchases to your car. Eley's is a fine grocery store. I hear it's been around for years and I'm glad they continue to serve the local neighborhoods, mine included. If I don't want to run to Walmart or the nearby Crest, Eley's is perfect because they have everything I need under one roof. The pricing is not as competitive as the other grocery stores, but they make up for it with excellent customer service and having a clean/tidy store. There is never a line to check out your stuff. If there is, they'll open another lane up so you don't have to wait. I notice that the employees always stay busy. No one is ever standing around and doing nothing. I have been dreading going to Eley's for some time now. I don't know why. It just looked like one of those places that I really didn't want to go to but knew that it was inevitable since it is literally three blocks from my house. That makes no sense at all. Anyway, I have big plans for drinking greyhounds at my house tonight and Ludivine has caused me anguish in that I can't drink greyhounds anymore unless they are made with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. THANKS A LOT LUDIVINE. So, since I set up surround sound in my living room today, I have been having a really hard time prying my ass off the couch. I decided to take my chance with Eley's for the grapefruits since it is the closest option for me and there will only be a short lapse in time where I am not sitting on the couch avoiding studying. I knew this was risky. Eley's looks small, they might not have produce, they might be closed, I might have to make the dreaded drive to Sprouts if my mission fails, etc. But when I walked in to Eley's, I felt like a total jerk for making the assumptions that I had about it. Eley's is clean and much bigger than I expected and they have LOTS of groceries and some fabulous looking grapefruits. I grabbed five grapefruits and wandered the store for less than five minutes (since I'm now going into couch/music DTs) just to see if they have things that would warrant my return. They do and I will return. I expressed my appreciation to the cashier for the store being so awesome and he replied, "it's really not that awesome." HA! He obviously doesn't have to normally drive 3 miles north to get something as simple as a grapefruit! They have good looking produce and their prices seemed to be very competitive. Also, THEY ARE OPEN UNTIL 11PM ON A SUNDAY!? Looks like I have found my new grocery store since it obviously caters to my laziness. read more

Want to avoid big box? This is a great option. Local, clean and friendly. No automated self check out. People will answer questions and help you find what you need. Prices are competitive; admittedly slightly higher than big box, but you avoid the crowds and bad attitudes of big chain store workers. No one is at the door enforcing the crazy on you either. Eley's Foods is a sweet surprise to anyone who loves fresh produce and great deals. They offer both! Although small and vintage looking on the outside, don't let its looks fool you. The store is clean and everything is organized very well. I always find great deals here and have been coming here for over 20 years with my family for groceries. For what it is, Eley's is a fine grocery store. Sure, it doesn't have the biggest selection, but what it does have is reasonably priced. On my visit, the store was sparsely populated and all of the staff were very friendly. I was particularly fond of their cuts of meats and the prices were cheaper than I expected. Eley's is extremely convenient for me since I live about 3 minutes away. I'm normally an Aldi-only shopper but my local Aldi is about 15 minutes down the expressway. Therefore if I find myself only needing a few things I can save gas and time by going to Eley's. Their prices are pretty fair and anytime I've gone in they usually always have some pretty decent sales (example: I got a 10 lb bag of potatoes for $1.99 today). I've heard about their Krazy Daze sale and I look forward to shopping that when it rolls around. It's also clean and everyone is really friendly! One of the things that I do really love about Eley's (and this may be just me) is that it's reminiscent of what grocery stores were before they became huge chains that take forever to get through. It's small, locally owned, and just plain friendly. Even the music they play overhead is a nod to the "back then" culture of grocery stores. It's relaxing to go in there and not at all stressful. Looks can be deceiving... I needed to buy some rice wine vinegar and sesame oil PRONTO and I didn't have time to head to the Asian District. I walked in and was surprised at how clean and organized the place was. They have an "Asian" and "Mexican" food section with a lot of walking space. My options were very limited though. They only carried one brand and in one size of both items. Beggers can't be choosers! The produce area was small so I didn't bother to check it out. It was almost the same size at Natural Grocers in Norman. What I really appreciated was the fact that I could easily get in and out without having to wait in a dreadfully long line. It might not have all that I need, but for the sake of being so close to home, I will come back and visit :) read more

A great locally owned little store when you just don't want to go to a big chain. The prices are mostly reasonable... some are more expensive than a chain, but it's well worth not fighting througb crowds to get milk. The staff and manager are always super nice and helpful!!! The store kind of seems a little dingy, but it is most generally clean. I definitely recommend this little store! Sometimes you just need some things and don't want to deal with the hustle and bustle of a large grocery store. That's why I really like coming here. It's quiet and usually has very few other customers. Eley's has your staples, you just may not be able to find more specialty items here. They don't have a large organic or produce section, so don't expect to find that here. Some of their items are overpriced, particularly in the frozen food area, but I don't buy things from that section anyway. That being said, they often have really good sales. The meat section is sufficient as well. The staff is always friendly, and not having to deal with a crowded store makes it worth coming every time. read more

High prices and crappy service! Most of the ad items get cut from the sale ad; which means you will come in for a particular item.... when you get there, they always say it did not come on the truck. When I have informed the owner of a really inexpensive item they carry, he jacks up the price.... like the chapstick I like to buy, but will not buy it there anymore. I've passed by many times thinking was a type of convenience store. I needed a few things and seen signs on the windows for various sale items, including meat. Needing some meat for dinner I went in. When I went inside I was surprised how big it is. Still fairly small compared to competitive markets but certainly not a convenience store. They had a nice meat selection and small but fresh produce section. The staff was very nice. I will be returning here regularly. read more

Quaint little neighborhood grocery store. On a good day, the place is crowded with the most affluent of those who live in the Venice neighborhood and surrounding. On a bad day, there is the occasional panhandler outside. I am afraid to tip baggers on these days. One day when I was there a man ran out of the store screaming that he caught two shoplifters stealing meat down their pants. The cashiers are great, the baggers are even better. They don't do that thing like Walmart or Target where they stand in front of their registers when they aren't busy to show they are ready to take new customers, they just hang back and talk to each other and wave you over... see? nice and casual-like :) The people who have been pointed out as management have given some short and sweet answers to my questions- they are always "I don't know!" Usually spoken from the telephone behind a counter with a big tall screen (if it were tinted it would be like a casino). Never an offer to check or find out or research when it comes to customer service. Clearly the best customer service is at the cashier/entry level, but frankly, I have never had to dispute a price at this point and I am kind of scared to because of the "i don't know!" thing... In terms of selection, you are paying to shop in a smaller store. The same brands as everywhere else, but about a dollar more. Full Disclosure: the gentleman in front of me in line during my last transaction at Eley's said he used to work there as a bagger over 10 years ago, and the store used to be union, and I guess the employees are anti-union because this caused them all to have a hearty laugh and make a few off-color comments citing old mafia movies. read more

I've been coming since a baby in my dads arms. This is how a small business is run. Customer will always be right at this store. They mop the floors before closing every night. Competing with this big box stores on price. Hell they sack your groceries and carry them to your car and I can personally vouch the owner has done that himself many times for me. If you want to see your money make a difference in this community then shop here and at okc stores just like this one. Over 40 years in business there is a reason for that. We in this community love this store! Keep mom n pops alive and well in our great state of Oklahoma!!!! The other reviews of Eley's pretty well sum up the charms of this neighborhood grocer-plenty of convenient parking, no lines, friendly service, decent prices (although not the cheapest), adequate selection. The meat market has monthly sales on fancy cuts of meat that draw our friends from Edmond. On the occasion when you want a special cut of meat, like a prime rib roast, the butcher can get it for you. Need a special trim, or a cut up chicken? The butcher does that too! My favorite thing about Eley's is that it is safe- no assalts, no muggings, no being accosted by panhandlers. Security in the store assures a worry free shopping experience, and you never find yourself alone in a giant parking lot with your sacks of groceries! They carry your groceries and walk you to your car. This great mom and pop grocery deserves the community's support! Four stars because of the sometimes limited selection, but to me the safety factor outweighs this. read more
