We went to get Christmas trees at this farm. This was our first visit at this business. We had an amazing time I highly recommend this farm! We went on a hayride, however, it was not a hayride, but it was fun to be pulled up to the Christmas trees behind a tractor, all the children seem to really be enjoying it, and I enjoyed it too. They have an enormous amount of beautiful trees. It was very easy to find one that I liked. They were very well taken care of and there was enough for everybody. It was really cool cutting our own tree! The prices were too bad, I got a 6 1/2 foot tree for $95. I also got a stand for $21. I will never forget today. This farm is very clean. There is scripture on practically every wall, which was warm and wonderful. While riding on the hayride, we passed a section that had the three crucifixes Representing Jesus and the two criminals that were crucified together. They had a fantastic petting zoo where they also had a camel ; that was pretty neat. I've never seen a camel in a petting zoo before. They had lots of places to take pictures. This place was so cool! Family friendly atmosphere, a super helpful staff, and plenty of great trees to pick from. We had such a fun time as a family despite not being dressed for the cold...our fault, not theirs! I would highly recommend if you are looking for a Christmas outing for the family. The family picture here was a pretty cool story...a young man named James (driving the tractor) saw that I was taking a picture of my people that I would not be in...he offered to take the picture for us and braved the cold without gloves to do it for us. No service. Of any kind. Nice people. But not interested in their kids at all. We drove 1 hr on December 2nd to cut our own 7 ft ft tree. We were told only 5-6 fr trees left. All other were gone Black Friday weekend. Nothing mentioned on the website. Kids only wanted to ride the wagon like we've done in the past. Driver said there's nothing left out there. No one manning any of the stations and those that were didn't seem like they wanted to be there. Kinda depressing. Like a Christmas nickel and dime racket. read more

This place is our yearly tradition to get our Christmas tree. We very much so look forward to going here each and every year and hope to continue the tradition. There is an area of animals for the kids and they also have trees that are from other areas if you don't like the traditional trees that grow in Texas. Usually they have a tractor that you can get on and ride out to the field to pick your tree. You select and cut down your own tree. The tractors circle and will pick up your tree as well as your family back up to the front. The trees are $11/foot. The popularity is growing each year, it's nice to see the farm is getting a lot of business. This year was a little different of course due to COVID, it was indicated that masks were required but not everyone was wearing masks. It wasn't really enforced either. You had to stand in line to get to the fields, social distancing was encouraged but again not enforced. This year the field that was designated for cutting was up front so walking to it wasn't bad at all. read more

Such a fun place for the family. The animals are cute and they even have a corn maze. We came for their fall fun event and there were so many things to do. Lots of awesome places for photo Ops where the pumpkins are. They even have a playground area in case your kiddo loves that instead. This place is awesome. I liked every part of it. As you come in, you are greeted by someone. They take your payment and they give you the 411 you need to know to get the most out of your visit. They had a hayride, train ride, pumpkin painting, photo props, scavenger hunt, playground areas, three mazes and more! lol There we're beautiful verses area and the staff were so kind and friendly. Get ready for the flood of 1star reviews. I've been coming to the tree farm for 12 years. Was always reasonably priced. They jumped $30 this year. The selection wasn't as good as in years passed and when we went to pay they were having issues with Visa cards. It feels like the new owners are out to milk as much money out of people as they can. They charge to pet the animals now, they charge to jump in bounce houses. The ornament shop was down to as VERY small selection of 3"crochet or paper ornaments for ~$5-$6. Very sad that this will probably be our last year back. read more

We went to the Elgin Tree Farm today. The people there were worn out and their fields were empty! Well except for Charlie Brown type Christmas trees. I wish we had been warned that there were like 6 trees to choose from. We would not have wasted our time heading out to the fields where the tractor dumped us never to return. Also, if you have someone who can walk but is a bit gimpy, like uses a cane or something. This is not the place to shop. There is no way to get on the trailer. The steps are way too high and the farm people are not accomdating like...you could drive out there...or something. Not willing to settle for a crappy tree and an ADA unfriendly place, I looked for another tree farm and found Evergreen Farms. It was the end of the day and I called. We got here pretty close to closing time but I had called ahead and they let us do some tree shopping at dusk. There were a lot of trees to choose from. read more

It's a fun place for kids as well for adults to go for pumpkin fun/ pumpkin festival. Each kid gets a mini pumpkin to decorate with admission. They provide crafts and place where you can sit down to do so. Train ride, hayride, maze, playgrounds, gift shop and animals will have your kids exploring for a while. The owner is a very nice person and he enjoys what he does. I wish him good luck. Christmas trees are smaller sizes but they look nice. Despite some low reviews this place is actually nice. Save your time/money driving out here, the only trees you could chop down were 4ft Charlie Brown trees and the pre cut ones were so over priced it wasn't even funny. $160-$200 for a tree that is just tall and not full. Best choice we made was going to tractor supply and buying a nicer looking 7ft tree for $25. Also if you have kids, there's the hay bail maze from Halloween still up, with decorations from Halloween. It's a cash grab. Imagine, you're walking from the parking lot, hearing the kids ands the music, thinking to yourself, " this seems like it'll be fun!" Then, before you know it you're at the front entrance where you're greeted by "$10 per person 2 years or older." Well at that price it may seem worth it, so you pay and walk in, where you immediately stop and look around, as you can see everything they have to offer all crammed in one little section. When I say it looks like a wishful moms 3 year olds birthday party gone wrong I mean it, a couple of bouncy castles, a snow cone truck, extremely overpriced food ($5 for ONE corn dog by itself) and not to mention smaller pumpkins that are more than double the price you can get them anywhere else. I went with 6 friends ranging in ages 20-55 years. There's plenty for kids to do: 3 mazes, things to climb, games, play scapes, crafts, several types of animals. We felt like kids again taking photos in the pumpkin patch and with the antique truck and tractor. A couple of my blind friends did a maze. All ages of people did the hay ride as transport to playscapes and picnic tables on the property. We enjoyed the live animals and Christmas store which was huge. We had a great time at the pumpkin festival-highly recommend!! I used a coupon for 1 free child which i received for signing up on their email list. Loved the crazy maze, hay maze, corn maze. The timing was perfect when riding the hayride - we stopped, got face painting, then took the 2nd stop, went through the maze, & were ready as soon as the next tractor came. There were LOTS of photo ops & it was perfect for our group which included a 10, 6, & 4 yr old. Also the kids loved the duck races which we did last while enjoying lemonade. Until 2009, we hadn't had a real Christmas Tree in, well, forever. We bought a pre-lit tree several years ago and the lights stopped working so we bought lights to go on it. I looked at my wife finally and asked, "What are we doing? This seems kinda ... lame." So we ditched the once-pre-lit fake tree and headed out to the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I was a bit nervous that we'd have a real tree drying out in our living room for over a month, but my wife insisted that it's a TRADITION to decorate the tree after Thanksgiving so we must GO NOW. Thankful it's not our tradition to wake up at midnight after Thanksgiving to save $5 on an Xbox, I shut my mouth and carried on. When you get there you can choose from the pre-cut fir trees (hauled in from North Carolina) or you can take a hay ride out to the native Texas trees and cut down your own. We went native to save the world from the greenhouse gases emitted by the trucks that transported the trees from the East Coast - yes I used to not care about this stuff but DAMMIT AUSTIN! Anyhow, from there I'll spare you the Clark Griswold-esque moments because it's pretty much what it sounds like. We needed a tree, we wanted a real tree, we thought it would be fun to cut down our own, we went to Elgin, and did just that and everybody's thumbs were spared. Just one word of advice: if you've never bought a real-tree before make sure you measure your ceiling beforehand. Turns out our ceiling is 11 feet, not 12 feet which prompted an impromptu trip to Home Depot and a bit of holiday cussing to cut the bottom part of the tree off so it would fit. You'll be happy to know that we didn't find any squirrels, but one night we were sitting there gazing at the beautiful tree and I noticed (just barely) a spider egg the size of a small golf ball. MAJOR CRISIS AVERTED! ...shudder... Other than that, the tree stayed green for the entire month and most of the needles that ended up on the floor were from me picking at the tree while sitting in my chair. Darn OCD. We've been to one or two other Christmas tree farms in the area and this year went to Elgin Christmas Tree Farm for the first time. We will *never* go anywhere else again. They provide you with a Tag ( that has 2 pieces detach ) so when you cut your tree they will give you a the other half of the tag and carry it for you to the hayride, As you arrive, Elgin's awesome staff will get you tree clean, and wrapped ready to go home. So, if you haven't heard my poutiness about the things I miss about NW Washington State, cool. I'm going to share my poutiness right now for a minute. One feature of the beautiful-on-a-sunny-day area from which we moved that was stirring up the blues in me was our traditional cutting of a fresh Christmas tree from a tree farm a couple miles from our house. If you have read my other reviews, you may also notice that I do love Austin. However, when an evergreen from the "Evergreen State" is what marks the beginning of a family's Christmas each year, deciding what to do about a tree in this new home can be fairly depressing. This, combined of course, with being far from family and friends. Some very dear friends we have come to know came to save the day. They provided us with the web address for Elgin Tree Farm. So, after carving out a day and time to make our annual trip to cut down our tree, this time in a land much different than we are accustomed, our family made the trek to Elgin Tree Farm. Suffice it to say that we loved taking the hay ride to the trees, being dropped off with a saw and measureing stick, then picked back up by the tractor and trailer to be carried back to the main store area with the 2008 Youngren Family Christmas Tree. I am still in awe as I recall drinking hot chocolate in the sunshine as we watched kids roast marshmallows and chase an armadillow up a tree while we waited for the Elgin Tree Farm staff to prepare our tree for purchase and transport. I cannot remember one time in my life that I have not been frozen to the bone, in the rain and wind (sometimes snow) as we tromped through the soggy tree farm (or in the mountains) to select and cut down our tree. When we got home, we were still a little sceptical as to whether this new type of tree would live up to the trees of our past. It does - and then some. Besides being a really cool place for trees, Elgin Tree Farm is an experience. The people are so kind and helpful, and there is evidence all around that they are community-consciense people as well. We drove down this past Sunday after finding this tree farm on yelp. It is our first Christmas in Austin, our first christmas together and we wanted a really special experience. We were a bit taken a back at how busy the farm was, but the wait was only a minute or two. A tractor with an attached trailer w/ haybales to sit on arrived and we climbed aboard. They dropped us off in the middle of a field where we were free to look around til we found the perfect tree. That was hard b/c of the drought. Also we were looking for a more traditional Christmas tree look but only found pines. They also have Leland Cypresses for sale, which we'd seen in their little display that had their selections, but for whatever reason no one told us these were only in the very front field (no tractor needed to get to). This is really the only reason that I didn't give them 5 stars. After awhile, I got very frustrated I couldn't find the "perfect" tree (NEVER TAKE A PERFECTIONIST TO PICK OUT A CHRISTMAS TREE). Bless my dear sweet fiance, he never raised his voice or got frustrated with me. Finally I found one I could just settle for. We'd only intended to get a small 5-6 ft tree but ended up with one thats 8ft tall. It was still very reasonably priced at $42. After picking it out, we cut it down, hauled it down to the end of the row, and the the tractor picked it up, took it up to the front. The staff put it in a machine that shook all the dead needles off, they bagged it up, we paid for it and brought it home. We don't have any kids but they seemed to have lots of great activities for kids- a maze, swingsets, ride on trikes, a picnic area, and a petting zoo. We are looking forward to bring our future kids here in the years to come. **ONE NOTE- IF you bring your dog here (we brought ours), be sure to get them some booties. We didn't think about it, and as a result our dog ended up with needles all in her little paws. She enjoyed the experience anyway. read more

Loved this Pumpkin Fest outing with my toddler. Admission is $8 for adults but there are coupons for free child admission if you join mailing list. Lots of great photo opps in the pumpkin barn and tons and tons if activities that are included in the admission. We loved the hay ride, trains, feeding Zachary the pig, playscapes, hay mazes, duck races, and so so so many other things to do. You can easily spend an entire day out there and they allow food to be brought for picnics also. Definitely a great value the money!! read more

First time at the farm today. We arrived at 5 & they close at 5:30 & we drove from 1.5 away. We were a little nervous they wouldn't let us in and they welcomed us with open arms. They even held the hay ride for us to run to. We took our 3 toddlers under 5 & our pup (on a leash). The kids had so much fun petting the (very well fed) donkey and lambs and mostly cared about running around the trees. There was tons of outdoor swings & play areas for them & honestly, they're kids, they will get muddy & dirty & that's okay cause we were there to have a fun & cut down a tree! Baths later! They provided a good saw and came to pick us up right when we cut our tree. The guys working unloaded our tree when the hayride arrived back to the front & shook out all the pines and wrapped it up nicely for us. We completely forgot rope to tie down the tree & they showed us where they had a ton of free twine. The guys carried the tree & put it on our car, basically did everything for us & it was now 35 mins. past their closing. No pushing us out, no turning off the lights, they were so respectful and helpful. We had a 8.5 foot tree today from Elgin and we paid $70. (Last year we lived in another city & we bought a 7 foot tree from outside Lowe's & it was $95..womp.) Great deal for us & love supporting these farmers so we were totally okay with the price! The experience for the kids is priceless. On the way home my 5 yr old son yelled, "we are SO doing this again next year" & that's exactly what this is all about. After reading some of these negative reviews it really seems like some of these people sit on their computers & get satisfaction of Yelping all day something that is completely irrelevant to them or just want something to complain about, my goodness. (Ahem..Tony B + Dee C.) You gotta watch out for these people and make sure they don't turn you away from actually experiencing great places, like this one. We were charged $32 just to enter the grounds and were told AFTER THEY TOOK OUR MONEY that we could not buy any decent size pumpkins because they needed to save them for pictures. Thank you for taking our money, making my wife cry, and ruining my 1 month old son's first Halloween. Spent $32 to walk from the parking lot, to the pumpkin patch, and back to the parking lot with the workers refusing to give our money back. $32 for a total of 5 minutes? ZERO STARS! read more

Such a great experience! We went WAY after Thanksgiving so all of the good trees were gone and picked. It's such a unique place, no wonder people head out there early! Leave your dogs at home. I brought our 38lb Border Collie and had to carry her most of the time because the pricker stickers were awful. They are really, really sharp and I spent most of my time pulling them off her paws and stabbing myself to the point of bleeding! They had plenty of trees shipped in from the Carolina's which was great. We headed home with a lovely 8 and a half foot tree, packaged and trimmed to our liking. Buy your tree stand ahead of time, theirs are not very ascetically pleasing and are a bit more expensive then buying somewhere else. read more

Let's get this out of the way: celebrating Christmas without a real tree is unpardonable heresy. There is no excuse not to have one, even in Central Texas. So now that we've dealt with the principle of the matter, where to go? They're conveniently sold at HEB and Lowes, to be sure. You're nuts, however, if you don't take a morning and go out to the Christmas Tree Farm. It is not merely a tree-fetching exercise; it's an event for the whole family. My kids pester me all year about going, and we all have a blast. We always go on the morning after Thanksgiving. Wait another week or two and the stock will be picked over. Wait until 3 days before Christmas (ahem ... see below) and ... well ... do I really need to explain what you should expect? So you park, and you head toward the groves. They'll give you a tag for your tree, and you jump on the next tractor-pulled haywagon to come by. You hayride out to the grove, jump down, grab a saw out of the box, and the hunt is on. The kids love running from tree to tree yelling "Daddy, what about this one?!" Finally, when you've found that perfect tree, you cut it down, tag it, drag it back to the path, and wait for the tractor to come and pick you up. FYI, bring gloves; there are burs on the ground. The helpful farmhands will toss your tree on board, and ferry you back to the front. Once there, they'll take the tree, shake the dead needles off, and bag it for you. Then you pay at the window, and take the tree to your vehicle. Use your own rope, or use the twine provided for you. Or toss it in the back if you really like sap on your upholstery. You can go home at this point if you want to, but wait! There is also a maze, which my son insists on running at least a half-dozen times. There are friendly farm animals to see and pet. So much fun. So let's recap: hayride, tree cutting, maze, critter petting, all in one. Did I mention the trees are cheaper than at the stores? A 7-foot tree costs you less than $50. Add a visit to this place to your family's holiday traditions; you will not be disappointed. read more

I organized a trip with two other moms for a bunch of twin and triplet families. The owner was great to work with, and we had over 100 people there in our group. Overwhelmingly, our group had a ton of fun and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! There was a hayride, train rides, pumpkin painting, tons of different areas to take photos with hay bales, pumpkins, scarecrows, ec, so there was never a line. In addition there were tons of other places to take photos, animals to see and pet, two different mazes, and a PLAYSCAPE. I loved that it was pretty compact, so i did not feel like my little ones could get lost. It was a really great day, and we will plan to make it an annual event! My family has been going to the tree farm for the past 6 years, ever since a friend at work suggested it as a fun outing. The trees are nice and VERY well priced. Our family gets 2 a year (kids tree [6 ft ]and Family tree [10 ft]) and I have never spent over $150. Due to the recent drought, the pickings have been slim, but we supplemented the adventure by getting a kids tree and then buying a precut Frasier fir. The great part is that there is hardly any wait.. and then they shake the heck out of the trees before you buy to get out all the nasty loose needles and clutter. They do take credit cards, check, and cash. Which is helpful... and the petting zoo keeps the kids entertained. We have visited the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm twice. The first time was in 2004 when my oldest son was in kindergarten. At that time we basically went on the hayride, picked out a tree, watched them shake it and wrap it and that was about it. The second time was this past December. My younger son's first grade class went and it was a very different experience. They had all sorts of activities for the kiddoes and they had a wonderful time! Adorable little place but man does it shove Jesus right in your face. I'm a lifetime church-going Christian and I love me some Jesus and Mary and all of that, but sometimes I just want to pick out a tree and not be reminded of how I haven't been thinking about Jesus enough everywhere I look.
