A very unprofessional doctor that not wanted to look at my PAST records belonging to my bone density and compare them with the new one he apply for! the office manager without no respect tread patients. The doctor did not understand the patient's concerns and authorization needs based on expired authorizations for follow-ups he treads med I cal patients so disrespectful without understanding here we live in the State of California & NO DOCTOR ALLOW disrespect patient's rights I had 3 visitations one PHONE 2 in his office with broken spin injury his office until 2 days ago which I REQUESTED never ASK TO GET MY MEDICAL RECORDS FROM my OLD DOCTOR IN THAT SAME BLDG something is not normal in his office he needs to correct himself or quiet to be a doctor to hear patients needs and existing Authorizations to see a specialist that he works and send his patients to Doctors do not get if the patients still use a provider that insurance approve he or she can go to nearby doctors of her choice, & not the ones is doctor desire in his circle he works with. read more

I went into this doctor's office, referred by my primary care doctor, and I had also sent my insurance information days before I went for my appointment on 1/4/21 at 3:00 pm, and was having trouble breathing when I arrived. I was having an acute asthma attack and my inhaler was empty. I arrived a bit early because I knew I couldn't last much longer breathing as I was, gasping for air. After waiting for too long, I was told that my insurance didn't cover my appointment, which was erroneous by the way and the office manager, Amy, told me I would have to pay $300 (which may or may not be reimbursed) or I couldn't see the pulmonary specialist. Mind you, I was having trouble breathing, was in the office of a pulmonary specialist and was refused to be seen. I inquired about an emergency room and Amy told me there was one across the street, that even Dr. Hendel had gone there himself, and that they were very good. Unbelievable that I am having a severe asthma attack right there in their office, the doctor even came to the front desk and could see me, and yet they refused to see me! Unless of course I paid the $300 for the appointment. It wasn't the money, I had it, but at that point I realized I would not be helped regardless. How can a pulmonary specialist look at someone who can hardly breathe and refuse to see them unless they pay or have the correct insurance? Turns out my insurance was okay but they were too stupid to understand how the system worked. I would never go back to this "specialist." Ever! read more

Dr. Hendel has been my doctor for years. When my mom fell and hit her head and was rushed in the ER. Dr Hendel was there within 10 min took over my mom's care and got all the specialist to see her. I have been working in the Healthcare industry and I have not see personal service like this. He is one of the most respected doctors in Glendale, one of the best in his field and if your lucky you might even see him on TV (he is always on TV). Very influential doctor. Very Brilliant. Don't believe the negative remarks. Dr Hendel will be there for you when you need him most. You also need to know that he is not only a Primary Care doctor. He is also a Pulmonologist and a hospitalist. He is very very loved by all his patients. Everyone who knows him will agree with me. I have been a patient of Dr. Hendel's for many years now and my experience has always been wonderful. The staff is great at responding to calls and is persistent with solving problems that may come about from insurance agencies, pharmacy refills and laboratory related issues. Dr. Hendel himself is very knowledgeable about his work and is compassionate to all his patients. He's a great PCP to have and a wonderful pulmonary specialist as well. This medical office has the worst service I have seen in the last 10yrs.!!!! Staff doesn't return phone calls. Staff is so disfuncional that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is going. I've been approved for a sleep study and the staff is making me wait for two months before I receive the kit! This staff shows no concern for its patients. I have a rare lung condition and had to change to a new pulmonary doctor for insurance purposes. Dr. Hendel's office made the transition seamless and minimized the time that I was off-therapy during the transition. Dr.Hendel took extra time to explain all of my lab results, answered all of my questions, and made the extra effort to ensure that I would continue to receive weekly infusions for my condition in the comfort of my home. The value of this is huge for my quality of life, especially during Covid. I am extremely grateful for Dr. Hendel's care and all of the efforts of his staff. read more

If you enjoy waiting for two hours after your scheduled appointment time and then being rushed out with no communication or eye contact, then this is the place for you. He did not ask me enough questions to understand my health concerns. I felt worse after leaving his office. He definitely needs to improve his communication skills. For someone with a long list of credentials and so many years in practice it is amazing that he lacks so much in his bedside manners. I've been going to Dr Hendel since i left the pediatrician-- about 20 years ago. He and his staff have been great from the very start. Despite my now 1.5 hour drive to their office each time I go for an appointment from my office, I am ALWAYS pleased with the service and care that I get. I saw him last week and I really liked visiting his office. He has taken care of my breathing problems for a long time and is always friendly when I drop by. It was great that I could get an appointment early in the morning so I can get on with the rest of my day. I didn't even have to wait long! I'll keep coming back as long as he keeps up the good work. This was the most horrible experience I've ever had with a doctor. We are giving them one more chance since they have a new staff member that appears to be more helpful. But this is what happened. We got a referral. Called - no answer. Called many times over the span of many days - no answer. Finally get an answer - the office lost our referral. Have our doctor send another referral. Call many times over the span of WEEKS to get no answer. Call at morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Call on various days. No answer. FINALLY get through and make an appointment. Get there and wait 1 hour. Doctor is nowhere in sight. Overhear staff saying how they don't know where he is. Another lady comes in angry that she has been trying to call them for weeks. They insist they always answer their phone and treat her very poorly. Another guy comes in, they lost his paperwork, they are rude to him and make it somehow his fault. Finally we see the doctor. He talks to us for 10 minutes, doesn't seem like he cares very much. Then we are supposed to get the paperwork for a sleep study. Never comes. They schedule a follow-up appointment with us for 2 months later. Appointment comes and goes - no paperwork for the sleep study - no calls to remind us about the appointment. He goes in last week to complain (his doctor told him to try again) and all they had to say was that he missed his appointment - well how can he go if it is a follow up to a sleep study that never occurred? Well we will see what happens and update. But I don't know how they make any money with people that don't answer the phone and a doctor that doesn't show up until 2pm read more

This doctor receives one star only because that is the lowest you can go. This doctor should not be practicing medicine. He is unorganized and becomes upset when patients ask why. He is friendly to those from whom he makes lots of money to pay for that Tarzana home, but has no ethics and no organizational skills at all. He lies to patients about follow-up, and lies to his insurance company as well. He returns phone calls when he is ready, and makes elderly patients in pain wait two weeks or more just to hear back, but only after being given a phone call to remind him that he has not called. He overbooks patients and patients can be sitting there for up to 1.5 hours past their appointment time. I would never refer this doctor to anyone, much less my worst enemy. read more

My husband and I both see Dr. Hendel. We are so impressed with the care and concern that he shows his patients. His staff is wonderful and will get you in if you need to be seen. It's refreshing to have a Dr understand that our budget doesn't allow for expensive medications unless there is a clear reason to use them. While we do wind up waiting longer to see him than other Drs, it's because he takes time with his patients. So I know that if I'm patient in the waiting room, that I will get his undivided attention. I usually do not give negative reviews, but in this case I have no choice. My parents have been patients of Dr. Hendel for many years, and the service has been consistently poor. Dr. Hendel never seems to remember any of their medical history, and clearly does not review their medical file prior to seeing them. His staff is disorganized and rude. They claim to never receive results from the labs and it takes weeks for them to submit an authorization request for a specialist to the insurance company. My parents (or I) have to constantly call the office to remind them that they need to contact the insurance, etc. We are often placed on hold for 30 minutes or more, or will be told that someone will call back, but never get a return call. My parents have to wait for hours to be seen, even when they have an appointment. When the doctor finally gets to them, he spends a few minutes in the room, and always appears to be in a rush. If they have any health complaints or questions he brushes them off by saying they are just old and their issues are age related. He has a horrible bed side manner. A complete quack and his staff is the absolute worst! I am so glad that I was finally able to convince my parents to change primary physicians. I do not recommend Dr. Hendel to anyone. The lack of professionalism by him and his staff is appalling!! read more

It's difficult for me to judge Dr. Hendel directly because I was not his patient -- my late mother was. Dr. Hendel himself seems to be a perfectly competent physician and for all I know may be an outstanding one. And that goes ditto for his nursing staff. But as of June 6 anyway and for some years prior to that, his receptionist(s) could and would be pointedly rude and indifferent and I know there were times when she or they behaved in an unacceptably high-handed manner to my mother -- and she was Dr. Hendel's patient for twenty years or more. Dr. Hendel is frequently if not always overbooked and at least until recently there was a permanent sign affixed to the wall welcoming patients to change their appointment and leave -- his waiting room is quite small. That said, the staff was always efficient in getting my mother access to specialized care beyond the scope of Hendel's practice. But that required only a phone call from me and it is probably a routine procedure to obtain the authorization from the insurance company. Overall, new patients will likely find the experience of visiting Dr. Hendel to be a mixed bag -- not quite bad enough to quit, not quite good enough to recommend to a friend. read more

Dr. Hendel focus is not on the patient. In my experience, he did not spend quality time with me. He appears to be on the go and in a rush while interviewing the patient. My experience with him started off with him ATTEMPTING to coach me into answering the questions posed, the way he wanted them to be answered. The actual lab test were not reviewed in their entirety, but it was annotated in the report, the results were in normal ranges. Dr. Hendel feels his own intellect succeeds his patient, so he feels very comfortable misinterpreting and misconstruing statement, to benefit the party paying him for his services (Insurance Company). The positive side to his fiasco in report writing is, his creditability does not stand up to extensive medical documentation that proves his methodology incorrect and without medical reasoning.
