He clearly explained the source of my symptoms in a way that was easy to understand. His bedside manner was outstanding -- patient, thorough, and compassionate. I was referred to Sierra Neuroscience Institute (Dr Yaser Badr) by my orthopedic surgeon. The entire process of booking the appointment was so off-putting that I have no desire to go any further with them. First they asked me to fill out a questionnaire. I filled it out in its entirety. I receive a very short response email asking me the very same questions that were presented in the questionnaire. I answered them again and provided all the documents they requested. A couple weeks later I still received no response. I wrote them for an update on my appointment. A couple days later I received a very short and terse response from someone named Angelica, who proceeded to ask me for the very same documents that I've provided two times already. For a third time I attached the documents they requested. She then says "thank you. Our next appointment is over two months away. The soonest we can offer you". That's it. No "I'm sorry for wasting your time for 3 weeks. I'm sorry that I neglected to see if you sent the materials we've requested. I'm sorry for the delay". Just "this is going to take a while, deal with it." It genuinely feels like they're hoping that I don't book with them. It's been two weeks since her previous email to me and she hasn't bothered to check and see if I want to make an appointment. I'm taking my business elsewhere. I've also had them on the phone on two occasions and that was equally as unpleasant. Trust the negative reviews on this place. Miserable receptionists. My surgery with this doctor went completely wrong, and what makes it even worse is that they never cared enough to follow up, listen, or help me afterward. Every time I tried to explain the pain and complications I was having, all they kept repeating was that their surgery was "successful," as if that automatically meant I shouldn't be suffering. They ignored everything I was going through. They didn't take my symptoms seriously. They didn't even try to understand what was actually happening. It's the same story so many other people here are saying -- problems that never get resolved, and a doctor who refuses to acknowledge anything unless it makes them look good. My condition got worse, not better. I was left in pain, confused, and dismissed. In the end, I had to go to another doctor just to fix the situation that should have been handled from the beginning. No patient deserves this kind of treatment. No one should be ignored after surgery. And no doctor should act like this is acceptable. After surgery he wants nothing to do with you I was suffering from an abcess went to him he said there was nothing he can do for me. He performed emergency surgery on my cervical spinal cord front and back it was full of pus and infection that was life threatening had to go elsewhere where for help could of died with all the infection they had to take out the hardware none grafted was eating up by infection thank God another surgeon helped me. Dr. Badr did a phenomenal job with my dad's brain surgery. My most highest respect for saving my dad's life!! I hardly write reviews, and I am teary eye writing this... but words can not express how thankful and grateful I will forever be for him and his team's effort to do everything possible so that everything went well. Adventist Health will forever have a special place in my heart. The staff was friendly and helpful and answered every question we had. I have worked in 3 hospitals and know that it can be a stressful environment, and to have the tables turn and be put in a position where you are on the patient's side.. you pray you get the best care possible for a loved one. Thank you to the therapists/nurses/ICU/team, my dad went from being unable to walk and move...to almost what looks like a full recovery in a matter of weeks after surgery. I would recommend his expertise to anyone who is in a similar situation. I am also shocked at some of the reviews, I was able to schedule a follow-up visit by calling once, it was fairly easy. Dr. Badr performed emergency surgery on me for a brain aneurysm. while I was in his care I received excellent care from him and his team. I was not the easiest patient but they were kind and patient with me. I had a follow up with Dr. badr weeks after leaving Glendale Adventist, and he was timely, had a great bedside manner and answered all of my questions ... I had a list! I will be following up with him again in the future as he is an amazing surgeon that knows his field well with years of experience. His office and medical team always replied to emails, and calls for requests such as work notes, appointments and information. Sometimes it would take 24 hours but they will always answer. Now I cannot say the same for the hospital (Glendale Adventist). If you are a first time patient and want directions be advised that the institute is in the hospital, entrance to the right as you drive in, near the valet. It is not a separate building ... hope this helps. It is a nice modern office with a big waiting room, and reception staff are there to help. read more

I was treated by Dr Badr and his staff in November 2023 after being a victim of a pedestrian hit and run. He was amazing, kind, and detailed with my prognosis. He was able to breakdown medical terminology in a simple form for me to understand. my second visit was May 6, 2025 when I had been experiencing severe pai and numbness due to my cervical spine injur. I needed emergency surgery to fix the issu. Dr Badr came to my rescue. He explained the aurgical procedure and assured me that I would be well. He literally saved my life. His NPs Danny and Oliver came to follow up with me after surgery and they treated me very well and with love and kindnes. The office staff were amazing to me..just a kind bunch of pe that took great care of me. 7 weeks postop and i am doing well and grateful to the doctor and his staff for making sure my children had their mom around for many more years to come. Avoid this office by all means possible!!Perhaps the totally empty waiting room should have been a clue to the inefficiency and ineptitude of this doctor's office. As the old saying goes, you can judge the physicians clinical skills by his staff!! A rude and unfriendly office staff member asked for a report along with my MRI CD. I told her this is the FIRST I hear of a report document along with the CD . She claimed she left me messages to that effect. I had all recordings of her messages on my phone and NONE of them mentioned a report!! A total Lie! I waited a while to see if she was able to retrieve a report from the imaging center.. she just kept me there waiting with no indication of how long and or un update.. no apologies at all. Dr. Badr is the best spine/brain surgeon. He literally saved my mom's life. She had a tumor in her C1/C2. We consulted with UCI and USC. The doctor at UCI wanted to remove the top 5 bones in her spine to reach the tumor. USC wanted to remove the top 2 and then do fusion. Dr. Badr said that only 2 need to be removed but fusion was unlikely since he didn't need to remove the entire bone to reach the tumor. Prior to the surgery, mom couldn't walk and was paralyzed on her right side. Mom's tumor was fully removed and fusion wasn't necessary. She can now walk and has her strength back to normal. Dr. Badr saved mom's life. People are under the assumption that just because someone is affiliated with the research institutions, that they will receive better care or have a more successful surgery. I can't speak for other types of surgeries, but Dr. Badr has a steady hand, and is the best spine and brain surgeon! He explained the entire surgery process and our family will forever be grateful for saving mom's life. 5 stars isn't enough for Dr. Badr. read more

I'm being quite generous in my Yelp rating for Dr. Badr's Glendale office. My father had his surgery with Dr. Badr several months ago and I have only met him on one occasion so I don't have a strong enough opinion of him yet so trying to be fair. What I DO have a strong opinion on is the general terrible operations/practices of their Glendale offices. They NEVER pick up their phones due to high call volume, so the two times I have had to make an appointment have been a waste of time & frustrating with some back-and-forths. If you do leave them a voicemail, they won't get back to you for at least several days and it becomes a game of phone tag. My father goes to MANY specialists and I have never had to chase an appointment this much for any of his other doctors. They're also closed for lunch for 1.5 hours. Wow. Seems like a super long time. When you are able to speak to someone, they don't schedule you in, but have to ask the doctor if it makes sense to bring you in, if you need a test first, etc. I get some of that, but this also delays things. How about you just hire more staff? Wouldn't this alleviate the issue? The staff/office assistants seem friendly and nice, but maybe it's just poor operational management and not enough bodies. I get the sense that the office is overwhelmed and they have too many patients. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, but having more staff might help. Maybe just one extra appointment setter. read more

Gone to Dr. Badr for a year and he has been a great help with getting me back to my normal self. Surgery was never the first choice he wanted that to be my last possible option. Unfortunately surgery was needed and ended up getting an artificial disc replacement. I've had nerve damage & weakness in my arms due to degenerative disc disease in my c5/c6 for about 4 years. My neurologist sent me to do PT this entire time which did not help. Finally I asked him to let me see a surgeon and Dr. Badr knew exactly what was wrong from my 3 year old and recent MRIs. At first the plan was ACDF (spinal fusion) and that's what I was expecting until one day prior to my surgery, Badr called me himself and said he had been reviewing my case and recommended cervical arthroplasty (disc replacement). This call was about 14 hours prior to my surgery and it showed he cares for his patients. I am writing this review 5 days after my surgery and I am in no pain whatsoever and couldn't be happier. My arms are working normally again and I have never felt better. From the moment I met Dr. Badr, I knew I could trust him and it was very valuable to me not to have to worry about my surgeon's capabilities. He changed my life. You cannot get this office to pick up the 'phone. I have called everyday for a week and all it does is ring, ring, ring. No answering service or machine to take a message. WTF. And with all the bad reviews, do you see any response to the reviews from their office????? Outrageous. Take a look at the other reviews about not getting through and when you do, you can't get an appointment or a call back for days on end. Rushed follow up appointment. No communication. No people skills. A year post op and I'm still waiting on answers.

I recently had a subarachnoid and intraventricular hemorrhage with hydrocephalus and was in the ICU for two weeks. I had a hole drilled in my skull with an EVD (external ventricular drain) in place to drain the blood and cerebrospinal fluid out of my brain. I am still experiencing the same symptoms that I had before I started hemorrhaging; severe headaches and other neurological symptoms. My insurance recently changed. My PCP put in an urgent neurosurgery referral for me to be evaluated. After waiting for weeks, in horrible pain, my insurance approved the referral to Dr. Badr's office. I called for an appointment but was unable to reach anyone by phone. I filled out the online appointment request, and waited for days, with no reply. When I called again, I was told that Dr. Badr would not see me because he only handles brain tumor and spinal disc cases. Don't waste your time on this practice, they don't care about you or your health. You might die waiting for them to care. read more

The woman on the phone was not particularly friendly and kind of short with me but I understand that offices are busy and not upset about that. My insurance webpage and this yelp page list him as a Neurologist, but according to his staff he is a neurosurgeon, not neurologist... meaning he does not do nerve testing etc. Hope this helps. read more

This is regarding his office in Glendale... 1. The staff is so rude! An elderly patient walked in and wasn't able to sign her name on the check in sheet. Wendy decided she was going to make sure everyone in the office heard because she kept repeating "you can't spell your own name?!?" Then turned to her coworker and said "psht she just said she can't spell her name" 2. The room was FULL of patients. ALL the seats in the office were taken (at least 12 chairs) and another 6 people were standing or leaning against the walls. 3. Wait time was ridiculous 2 freaking hours! And after that we didn't even see the doctor we saw an NP for 5 minutes. I think we saw the doctor for like one minute standing in the hallway. 4. Their scheduling sucks! They schedule multiple people for the same time. This was just an overall bad experience. I'm glad I won't be going back there but I will be contacting the state board. read more

I have had pretty gnarly back pain for 7 years and had seen dozens of surgeons and physicians, either wanting to do conservative treatment regardless of the outcome (not helping) or jumping into surgery without taking the time to discuss my history with me. Then, I found Dr. Badr and his staff. From the moment he walked in to the patient room, I knew this was the neurosurgeon I wanted to go with. His bedside manner was so calming and his presence put me at ease. He spent quality time with me, listened to every and any question or concern I had, didn't pressure me into a decision, and even advocated on my behalf when the insurance company had become problematic. I couldn't be happier with my choice! The surgery was smooth, hospital recovery was easy peasy because of the incredible nursing staff (loved them all!) and my follow up visit was even a joy! Dr Badr's attempt to remove my sister's brain tumor was not very successful (to say the least!). After the surgery we were told us that the tumor seems to be benign and that he removed almost all of it. No MRI was made after the surgery, my sister was sent home without any indication that the her tumor is life threatening. Thankfully, we went to another hospital, where after an MRI we found out that Dr Badr did not remove even half of the tumor. My sister had to undergo a second surgery and the doctor told us after the surgery that this tumor is possibly Grade 4!!!! I read the reviews for Dr Badr carefully and I am glad many people have such a good experience with him. For us, he was unfortunately the reason why my sister had to have two brain surgeries within two weeks. Also Dr Badr's and his nurse practitioner's attitude is unacceptable. I flew for 12 hours to LA to talk to doctors and to understand what's going on with my sister and didn't even get a chance to speak with him properly. During the 3 days spent in hospital with my sister I saw Dr Badr for 3 (!) minutes on the last day. What is a tragedy for me and my whole family, was just another tumor for him...
