Man Oh Man!! This is the place to come to for the Southern Meal of YOUR LIFE!! okay maybe not of your life but definitely in Kirbyville. (Disclaimer we've only come to this southern style restaurant) BUT... let me tell you it was Delicious with a capital D! My love had the fried catfish and shrimp - catfish, corn and green beans. The catfish was melt in your mouth good. Fried to perfection and the batter was som-nice, lem'me telllya! She let me steal a piece is why I'm telling you! Shrimp was good as well but not as good as the catfish. Fries to be honest were meh, hence the 4 stars and corn according to my wife was not the side to order unless you like corn that don't taste good. Then it's the one you e been waiting for. Green beans were to her liking - flavorful and at least mentally a healthy choice. I mean you don't get much at a Southern-cooked joint that's healthy... am I right ‍ or am I right . I got the meatloaf, mashed-tators, and sweet baby corn. Maaaaaan the meatloaf was a junking piece of meatloaf with some good seasoning and know that it comes SMOTHERED in their tomato sauce which had a hearty cut of vegetables and good flavor. My husband and I stopped in for a quick lunch. I had the meatloaf special with two sides. The meatloaf was seasoned well and topped with a delicious sauce of tomato, onion, and bell peppers. I chose squash casserole and green beans for my sides, both were freshly made and tasted home cooked. My husband had the chicken pot pie. My experience at Elijah's Café in Kirbyville After we came in, took about 20 minutes to get our drink order. Didn't bring any bread. Had to ask for it later. Took another 30 minutes to take our order. People were being served food who came in after us. Finally gave up. Got up and paid for our drinks and left. Complained but no one would try to make it right. Their menu has the following statement on it: "If you are not satisfied, we will make it right." - DON'T BELIEVE IT. ONE BIG LIE read more

One would think that after 9 months of serving mostly "to go" orders, they might get it right. We have had several minor foulups on our orders, but today's was the worst. First of all, after taking our order, they called back a little later and told us they were out of baked potatoes, Second, after my daughter picked up the order at the drive through, they called again and told us "we were missing one order" -- English translation, they forgot to give my daughter one of the packages. The final straw, was upon opening the sacks. One of our orders was not well sealed, so we had queso all over the containers, and none for my daughter's chips and queso. I would have called the manager, or left word on their website, but I have done that before with zero response. The only explanation I could have is a lack of concern. read more

My favorite items on the menu are the pot roast melt and the grilled chicken sandwich. The specials are not to be missed either. They also have a good selection of appetizers such as chicken wings, fried pickles, and fried mushrooms. They have your great Texas standby, Chicken Fried Steak, large or small portion. Meat Loaf, Fried Chicken, and sides such as mashed potatoes, fried okra, macaroni and cheese, and red beans and rice. They have a good selection of sandwiches, Hamburgers, Soups, and Salads. There food here had always been really good! And the prices are very reasonable, usually less than $10.00 for the lunch specials!!! They also have a good desert menu of ours and cakes. They have coffee, tea, and soft drinks to wash it down. If your ever coming through they are open all week for lunch and dinner. They also have two other locations, one in Woodville, which I've been to a couple of times. And also one in Jasper. Good Food for a Good Price!!!! This is hands-down our absolute favorite place to eat when we come to Kirbyville from our primary home in San Antonio to check on our property in the country. We're usually here to do work on the property and don't feel up to cooking. This is the place we can get a good, hot, home cooked meal for reasonable prices. Horrible food, did not even finish our meal in fear we would get ill. Dead flies in the window sills,had to swat flies away from our food. Dirty place. cashier seemed offended when he asked was everything okay, and I told him it was nasty. It use to be really good when the other people owned it. Just visited Elijah's with my family for the 1st time. My sister had raved about this restaurant in the past but had heard mixed reviews from friends recently. Since we were meeting my parents in Kirbyville today we decided to give it a try for ourselves. Bad decision on our part! The chicken fried steak was under seasoned and over cooked. The fried catfish was also very bland. My niece got the grilled chicken sandwich and said it was mediocre at best. All this might have still added up to a 3,star review if most of the food hadn't come to the table either warm or downright cold. Hard to understand bringing out cold food when the restaurant wasn't even busy? We were basically the only 5,people there. Hate to give a small restaurant like this a bad review because I know how hard it is to keep a family run restaurant going. I think in this case I might be doing the owners a favor. If they see this review maybe much needed changes can be made before it is too late! read more

We like parking in former competitor's covered parking so van stays cooler (competitor moved closer to school). Takes credit cards & local checks.
