Alright. This place is pretty good. Is what I wish I could say, however, there are many things to be said about this place that are very apparent as someone who isn't exactly regular, but orders enough to notice growth and change in the place. So, I'll start from the top. Initially this place was rather small and cramped back when it was a smaller establishment, BUT it has expanded and now it's much bigger and there's so much more room now that I would never consider that a problem. The lights are a huge improvement too, making the place feel less like a hospital with lights that might occasionally flicker and ceilings that remind you of your school days, and it feels very, VERY welcoming to take a seat and eat in. However, that's unfortunately where a lot of the good ends. The service is so painfully slow you could probably place an order at another place in town and they'll probably have it ready before you even begin ordering here on a bad day. And that's just waiting in line, sometimes you'll wonder if they forgot about you by the time you've noticed five people probably already leave. That's just if you go up and order inside though, if you're lucky you can call and get your order prepared before you arrive, but sometimes the people there intentionally ignore the phone or their number doesn't work. So if you want something quick, do NOT come here expecting that. The food is one of their constants, if inconsistent could be labeled as such. While the food isn't disgusting or low quality, it's a real toss-up how it's going to be sometimes. Though, their actual fried chicken ends up being VERY oily to the point of where I question if they're tossing the chicken in there at right time when the oil is nice and hot so it doesn't soak up a bunch of oil that I simply do not want to eat. read more

I passed through Kirbyville and stopped at Jenny's in favor of something local versus a franchise. Wow, was the food amazing! I ordered the fried shrimp and mac and cheese. What I didn't know is that the fried shrimp was part of a combo including fried catfish, the fried shrimp, french fries, jalapeno hush puppies, and cole slaw, and a drink. It was a pleasant surprise, but the menu is confusing on how to order and what comes with the food, but the taste makes up for it by far. I could tell this was a local gem because it was barely 5pm on a Wednesday and there was a line of about 10 people. The service wasn't bad, but can be confusing if you aren't a local. read more

My husband and I stopped here on our way home from a road trip, and we were so glad we did. The food was amazing. Our burgers and fries were absolutely delicious, and our fried apple pie was the cherry on top. It wasn't the fastest, but it was worth the small wait. We are so glad it's only a 45 minute drive, because we plan on making a special date night trip back out, and we will do our best to route out-of-town family through Kirbyville whenever they drive down from the Midwest. I sincerely hope someone from Jenny's reads this and addresses these issues; this could be one of the best places in SE Texas if the customer service was even passable, but it's so dreadfully poor that it's a struggle to give it 3 stars. Let's start with the wait. It's dismal. Don't order unless you have 30-45 minutes to wait for your food. Oh, and if you're thinking that you will avoid the wait and call an order in ahead of time to avoid the near-an-hour-long wait, make sure you take a list of what you ordered - they don't have much of a method for tracking or organizing call in orders by name or phone number. And you're probably still going to wait (I called an order in 20 minutes before I arrived and had to wait another 30 minutes after I arrived). This is not the place to go if you want halfway friendly service either...I've been here dozens of times and not once did I feel welcome. I in fact felt like my presence and my order were both annoyances to the staff. The last time I was there, the cashier gave me a sideways look and asked, "yeeeesss?" As in "whaddaya want?"I will say that usually the wait staff that bring the food to you are pleasant, or at least don't act like you're one of those pesky customers. Was honestly a bit disappointed. Got 9 piece mixed. They were out of legs so we got thighs and wings instead. No argument with that. Got corn nuggets they were good. But from there it gets weird we ordered a shrimp poboy and large mash and gravy with brown gravy. The shrimp on the poboy had the tails still on???? And they were VERY overcooked. Lettuce turned to mush. had lots of shrimp poboys and never had shrimp with tails still on. Went back thinking they made a mistake and gave us white gravy on the mash potatoes. The gentleman said "that is our brown gravy it's a little weird tonight" . Sorry guys but quality control is severely lacking if you let weird gravy that looks like cream of chicken soup go out as brown gravy. I drove to Kirbyville recently to try some fried chicken that I heard was very good. The restaurant is called Jenny's Fried Chicken and it is located on Hwy 96, next to Brookshire Bros and across, plus a little ways down, from the high school. I did not know when I arrived that I would be entering a brand new restaurant and that they had just moved in it only three weeks before. The restaurant is large, beautiful, clean, with plenty of tables, six large flat screen tv's and I love the glossy concrete floors. They open at 10:00am every day (according to their fb page). I arrived around 11:30, and I'm glad I did because after that the line was to the door and it never got short. I have read good and not so good comments about this place. Mainly how good the food is but how rude and unfriendly the people are, so here is my unbiased review. Upon entering Jenny's around 11:30 I was third in line. I approached the register to order. They had one register and one senior lady taking orders by herself. This I thought was not fair. She never smiled and had little to no eye contact with me. I asked her questions because it was my first time there. She answered all my questions while writing and never looked up. The optimist I am tends to feel there is more to why she is not a people person then what others call just "rude." I ordered three pieces of dark meat chicken with fries and two jalapeños peppers. I also ordered a side of red beans and rice with a glass of ice tea (don't judge me). All of this for $8.00 and change. Let me start by saying I did not like the beans. They look better than they taste. There was little to no seasoning. All the hot sauce in Texas couldn't have help them. They needed to be cooked about six more hours. I like a creamy bean gravy and this was watery. Moving on, the fried chicken was fantastic. I absolutely loved the crispy crust. Not greasy and no hard crusty piece. Every bite I took was excellent. The fries were just straight fries and the rolls I didn't eat. It also came with three hush puppies that I ate and were very good. This place may have its faults, but it's not in the chicken. I plan to make this trip again. I see why the line stayed long. I highly recommend Jenny's if you're ever driving through Kirbyville. Their new building is also absolutely beautiful. They also have a covered area outside to sit. If you meet up with the senior lady at the register, give her a big smile. She just may need it and she might catch on and smile back. I was there on Saturday to pick up food for brothers funeral. My cousin had placed the order a couple of days prior to pick up. The food was ready as promised and good. The service was fucking piss poor as usual. I would have rather driven to Jasper to Walmart next time. The rotten tooth piece of trash that runs the register with all them fucking cocktails rings is the worst! My thought for many years,the bitch was an owner. I find out just an employee. It's amazing that a business owner would allow that type of trash to be the first and last thing to see at their business. Staff could be friendlier. Woman who took our order was wearing about 2-3 rings per finger, never smiled once or greeted my aunt. Girl who brought our order didn't smile either. Maybe they aren't happy with their jobs?? I have no idea, but a smile goes a long way!!! First off this place is newly renovated and looks like it was a great job. High ceilings open the place up and help keep the noise level down. The menu had various side items like fried mushrooms and corn nuggets. I had a 3 piece white basket with corn nuggets for the side. The batter was homemade and the chicken was decent. Four stars means I am a Fan. I believe this place is a little oasis in central east Texas. There is another place south of this restaurant, Tom Jr's, which makes it a special trip for us from Beaumont. We visited on Saturday, 3pm. The building was surrounded by cars and trucks with a couple vehicles in the drive through lane. Never fear as there is plenty of seating available inside. The menu is pure fast/convenience/comfort food. Chicken, fish, shrimp, oysters and hamburgers. This was our first visit to Jenny's Fried Chicken. The obvious choice was chicken. Two orders, 2 piece mixed and two piece white. Mashed potatoes and gravy, Dirty rice and fried okra. Comes with soft, yeast dinner rolls. Classic. Chicken is medium to light batter. Crispy and a bit salty although not overly so. The seasoning had bit of a tingle/sting that lingered. Pleasant. Meat was moist throughout and cooked through to the bone. The flavor of the taters speaks of the instant variety. You have a choice of white or brown gravy. The dirty rice had stand up character. Rice is brown colored by the meat and other spices. This side was even more assertive, rich in flavor and a good compliment to the chicken. Okra. $3+ for an order but, oh what flavor and golly, its a near mountain of them little okra. Watching the trays of food float by, I see all of it has possibilities. A friend of mine says the special of fried fish and baked potato is a steal of a deal. I had heard rumor of the fried catfish sandwich. I am so glad I stopped in to try it for myself. Their fish portion was ample on a sizable bun. It was hot and fresh and was oh so tasty.
