    prickly pear margarita
    Monika K.

Great event! Had a good time. The Yelp swag items were cute too. The matches came in handy, super useful for home. Thank you to Katey, the Yelp team, and to Benihana for this event. The prickly pear margarita that I picked out was really cute. My favorite items were the avocado cucumber roll, the salmon sashimi, and the champagne. They also offered many types of sushi rolls, BBQ chicken wings, fried rice, beef, and chicken. There was a live hibachi show, where they cooked steak and other food. I watched a little bit of the show and it was definitely entertaining.

    My lovely prickly pear margarita.

Thank you Katey for the excellent event! Benihana's is a fun, entertaining, hibachi grill experience. First time visiting the NYC location, went to the Miami location back in the early 90's which was exceptional. Benihana's NYC location, did not disappoint. Upon entering I was greeted by two lovely, lively, friendly ladies at the hostess desk. They offered a refreshing glass of champagne, which was exactly what I needed after the hectic ride, filled with rush hour traffic. Proceeded to the last room, where everyone, enjoyed teriyaki wings, spicy chicken or pork pan fried gyoza dumplings which were perfect! Thoroughly enjoyed, the spicy chicken, with vegetables, which were not overly spicy, very flavorful with the mix of vegetables. Added teriyaki sauce to mine, super yummy! The main room featured a spectacular grill experience, that had myself and others captivated with the entertaining way the food was prepared at the table. Thank you Aunhrey for the experience. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the rice and vegetables were all a delicious, such a delight. Thank you Daung, and the other lady that kept the food coming, very sweet, upbeat, and made the event special. My favorite drink was the prickly pear margarita, it was the best I ever had! The presentation was colorful, and appealing. Adding, Benihana to my list of places to enjoy happy hour, and dine in experience. The food 10 out of 10. Service 10 out of 10 Cocktails 10 out of 10 Experience 10 out of 10

Wow - I have not been to Benihana in NYC for many years. I've been to the one in Vegas and a few other cities while on business trips and forgot how much fun this restaurant can be. I was excited to get an invite to try it out again right here at home. Just walking in we were greeted with a flute of champagne and smiling faces welcoming us! Fancy! Bar area in front where we gathered for cocktails with choice of three. I Prickly Pear Margarita was my fave, and the Benihana Mai Tai along with the Emperors Margarita were also quite good. We each got 2 drink tickets but were able to score an extra here and there. Big win! Food you say? Holy cow they served us a lot of delicious eats! First room had large platters of sushi, dumplings and wings. The second room had platters of sashimi, sushi, and more. They emptied quick as us hungry Yelpers feasted but when they kept bringing out more and refilling the platters it was pretty awesome. Then, we were treated to a fun hibachi demonstration as Benihana is known for. Which meant even more food - steak, shrimp, rice, chicken, veggies. Everything was so fresh and tasty. By the end many of us waved the white flag as we could not eat any more. Absolutely stuffed full of wonderful food. Even near the end of the event the manager asked us if we had enough to eat. So good. Also, I met some really nice fellow Yelpers at this gathering and we connected on the app. Good people make these time more fun. Some nice Yelp branded swag too. The special chopsticks were sweet. The staff here were very friendly and on point, always smiling. Thanks so much to Benihana's management and terrific staff for hosting us, to Yelp, and to Manhattan CM Katey and her intern Emily for the invite. This was a terrific Elite event. I'm still feeling stuffed the next day!

Such a fun event! Thanks Yelp NYC team and Benihana! They kept the food coming!! and the drinks were fantastic! I enjoyed the fun hibachi demo! It was a fun cocktail hour style night! It was nice to catch up with other Yelp Elites!

I was so happy to get into this event because it's been a minute since I've been to an event where I can mingle and meet other Yelpers! I came late but there was still so much food that kept coming. Upon entry, we were greeted with introductory glass of champagne. We received 2 drink tickets and had 3 options of cocktails. I got the Mai Tai which was premade. I wanted it less sweet but was told it was premade. There was: - sushi: this was yummy! - sashimi: very fresh - beef: tender - chicken: not my favorite, I like beef more - shrimp: not super seasoned but it wasn't bland - hibachi demonstration: fried rice and vegetables! This was all good and not bland at all - chicken wings: I didn't try this - dumplings: yummy! The staff was amazing and attentive. Shoutout to Kevin and this nice lady (I forgot her name :( ). Everyone was so nice. My new friend Ebony and I stayed in the back and were asked nicely to move to the bar when the event was wrapping up. Thank you Katey and everyone that made this event happen!!

When I saw this Elite event, I knew I just had to attend, so of course I was thrilled to receive an invitation. We were greeted at the venue with complimentary champagne, and that is in addition to the two cocktails we were already getting. I of course immediately beelined for their large platters of sushi, filling my plate with the shrimp roll, which was delicious and my favorite bite of the night, the cream cheese roll, which I actually enjoyed more than I expected, and the tuna and salmon tartare on a block of deep-fried sticky rice -- also delicious. The sushi was my favorite part of the night, I will admit, although their gyoza was flavorful and their chicken wings tender and generously sauced. While I had highly anticipated the hibachi rice, I found that it paled in comparison to the other bites. I'm sorry to say, it lacked flavor: the chicken was unseasoned and bland, the rice needed garlic or chili oil to uplift it, and the steak, too, could have used some seasoning. Nonetheless, that didn't deter me from having a good time, especially when the staff was so friendly. The manager had great energy and was clearly so happy to host us. The bartenders were so accommodating to non-alcoholic requests, one even made me a special virgin drink that was so refreshing. One of the servers kept going around the room, letting everyone know when new plates of food were ready -- and she even refilled my drink! And that's another thing: I was so surprised by how much food there was! Just when I thought I had taken advantage of the last round of meals, another wave would come out. Suffice to say, I came out full to the brim. Thank you Katie and Benihana for this wonderful treat. I hope you invite us again! P.S. loved the swag!

10/10 event! The food was fantastic (especially big fan of the fried spicy sushi, hibachi steak, veggie fried rice) and the drinks were made expertly by the mixologists at the bar. The Prickly pear margarita was amazing and the vibrant pink color is very aesthetic! The food was plentiful and I could tell the staff was having a fun time interacting with guests and serving. Overall very well run event, I can't wait to return to Benihana's on 56th for another hibachi meal soon!

Wow just an amazing event from start to finish! As soon as you check in, you are greeted with champagne with nice Yelp signage at the entrance. There are sushi, sashimi, gyoza, wings, and a variety of cocktails to choose from off the bat. I really enjoyed the sushi and sashimi plus the gyoza. We had a nice area to be able to chat and socialize. Afterwards, the Hibachi demonstration was fun. We saw a couple of nice tricks like two eggs appearing out of nowhere like magic and some fire tricks. Overall really fun and awesome experience. Thanks to Katey and Emily as well as the great staff at Benihana for making this happen!

This was my very first Yelp Elite Event and it was a nice experience! There were large amounts of food and drinks provided so everyone had the opportunity to try the various options available. These included chicken wings, dumplings, and sushi. We also got to watch one of the chefs make hibachi fresh for us to all try. The event had a relaxed and friendly atmosphere overall. I met a lot of nice people and had some cool conversations! Thanks to Katey, her intern Emily, Yelp, and the team at Benihana for bringing us all together for a great summertime food event!

Such a fun event!!! The drinks were strong, the food was never ending and the company was so engaging. I connected with some old Yelp friends and some new ones over food, travel and fave yelp events. The staff at this Benihana location were so kind and attentive. The food was alright, my favorites were the crunchy rice sushi rolls and the steak I would come back here for a quick happy hour or pregame. Thank you for organizing this event Katey :)

    Pamela F.

Had such a great time! We had a wide array of selection from the dumplings, wings, sushi, sashimi, fried rice and all the meats available! The chefs, bartenders, waiters, greeters and all that worked there were all very welcoming and accommodating!

It is really more effort than it seems to make these shapely bagels, after rolling 5-6 bagels each, we took our shapely creations to the bagel cook space to be boiled, spiced, and baked. Everyone had a try at either flipping them into the hot boiling water, scooping them out, or spicing the bagels. Total team effort under the watchful eye of Rory! The next part of the tour involved an inside scoop into the kitchen space, the fridge where bagels proof, a bagel historical lesson, and finally some little known facts on bagels which was really enlightening. Walking into the restaurant there's a separate entrance for Taverna off of 37th Street, and the entrance for Nizuc (the Mexican restaurant that shares the location with Taverna) is on 10th Avenue. The Taverna side is lit brighter (in the evenings at least) and has more of a Mediterranean aesthetic with blue and white decor and medium-toned wood. Shoutout to the staff for terrific service! They were very prompt with seating me as soon as I arrived and mentioned that I had a reservation for 7pm for two. Further the overall dining experience went very smoothly and our waiter (sorry I forgot your name!) was very friendly and helpful, he gets a 6th star for himself! We ordered-- 1) Grilled octopus: cooked perfectly, super tender with a light char, pickled onions, (supposedly roasted) tomatoes and capers went well with it. It sat on a bed of mash vegetable or bean and I couldn't quite put my finger on it though it was good. The tomatoes didn't seem to be roasted, just cut and placed on the plate, which was fine by us. The one thing with this dish was it was very salty, if they could reduce the amount of salt by about 1/3 it would've been better. 2) Lamb Chops w/mediterranean salad, lemon potatoes, pita bread: we asked for medium which was the recommended cook level and again perfect! So good, one of the better preparations I've enjoyed. Thumbs up! I really liked the lemon potatoes that came with it, lemony and bright. The Mediterranean salad for both entrees was fresh and crunchy with cucumbers, red onions and tomatoes. 3) Steak Kebab Platter mediterranean salad, pita bread, tzatziki, and choice of rice pilaf (or hand-cut fries): another successful dish! I asked for medium rare on the beef kebabs and they came out just right, the right amount of pink on the inside. Tender and juicy with good seasoning. Rice pilaf fluffy and delicious. Pita bread for both entrees was warm and soft. 4) for dessert Portokalopita - orange sponge cake with honey: delicious, flaky crumb which is kinda different than the sponge crumb in more Western European sponge cakes, soaked with honey syrup and topped with a piece of candied orange peel. A little bit of a sweeter dessert than I'm used to, would be good with a black coffee. 5) for drinks we had a glass of: - Amethystos, Savignon Blanc, Assyrtiko: crisp, notes of peach, mango, citrus and a mineral finish, this one was decent, coming from someone who's not an oenophile. - Julia, Agiorgitiko: notes of vibrant red berries with a tad spiciness, mid-level tannins, went great with the grilled beef. Thanks again to Taverna and Yelp for this delicious meal! So yummy in my tummy =D

My hangover has finally subsided and the JACKHAMMER has been removed from my brain. I do have to say right off the bat that I think they oversold the event a bit this year. Sure, it was packed, and very crowded, but not so much so that you could not get a glass of beer or bourbon quickly throught the venue. Our group drank A LOT before we even decided to get some grub in our bellies. We even hit up a bourbon tasting class where one who shall remain nameless pretty much spilled everything onto her crotch. I even bought a viking helmet hat to wear. Drunken fun times! The food lines were another story - ridiculously long and slow moving. Sure, I had some decent pulled pork from one stand right out of a pig carcass, but the best was from the Kloby's BBQ booth where the line was the longest. Gotta give it to Monique R for holding her ground on that long line amid some drunken fools and line cutters to secure a few plates of amazingly tasty hush puppies, pulled pork and coleslaw sandwiches, and pork rib wings. Worth the wait even though it cut into our drinking time, but we needed to eat something to help soak up all the alcohol. Our group had a great time. There were so many terrific beers and bourbons on hand. Many of the staff would even fill your tasting glass to the brim. All you could consume for four hours - wonderful or insanity - it's all how you look at it. So worth it when paying half price, 2 for 1 tickets, or discounted tickets. You have to be a noob to pay full price for any of these events as there are always offers on different websites with big discounts. But to charge $3 for the coat check is kind of a money grab, even though it was nice to ditch our heavy winter gear. We came, we drank, we ate pork, we pillaged and plundered. Looking forward to doing it all over again next year. Oh, and kids, here's a tip for you all. When you are totally blasted outta your mind on bourbon and beer it's not really a great time for an Italian-Norwegian to fight with your Russian-Polish fiance' out on the street. There is just too much stubborn hard headedness in that combination for any good to come out of it.

A great event if you enjoy beer, bourbon, barbecue or all 3! You get unlimited food and alcohol for…read more4 hours at either session you go to. Like every food tasting event you go to in NYC, get there early and hit up all the food lines before they get really long later on (usually 2 hrs in). Plus you need food to soak all the alcohol you're going to drink. The highlight of the night was definitely the whole hog. They also have brisket, pork belly, bacon, fried chicken/waffles, wings, bread pudding, and cornbread. There were definitely more beer vendors than bourbon vendors. The beers were mainly local from New York and East Coast breweries. I liked the high end bourbons since they went down smoother and didn't totally burn my throat. You will definitely eat and drink enough in the time so then you go home to pass out from barbecue coma.
