I was a first time customer. I was given good detail to my needs and set up with a pair of walking/running shoes . Took them home and after 2-3 conservative in home "wearings" and they were not for me. Returned them and ....much to my surprise I was charged a $20 service fee when they were bought. This was NEVER EXPLAINED at the outset and the friend who was with me agreed on that! Perhaps there was a sign in the store that noted the service fee...but personally I feel ripped off. My podiatrist originally recommended Elite Feet, and they gave me a percentage off when I bought my first shoes here- loved that! Knowledgeable staff and competitive pricing- even with online places like Zappos. They run a lot of great sales- sign up for emails so you don't miss anything. Wish they were open longer hours- but that's my only complaint. I'm pretty loyal to my Brooks running shoes now and they've always got them in stock. Btw, they recently moved- but not far away. I strongly recommend to avoid this business. The owner recommended the wrong running shoes for my feet. When I returned the shoes he charged a 20% restocking fee for "his time". He spent less than 10 minutes when I purchased the shoes. I will only do business with Gary Gribbels in the future. I went in and the staff was super friendly and provided me with a new pair no questions asked and at no cost to me! I had a terrible experience with a male salesperson at this store. I have had foot surgery and wear orthotics, so I have to be careful about the shoes I purchase. I have purchased shoes here before from different salespeople and felt my individual needs were listened to and addressed. This time, though, the salesperson became combative and argued with me. He informed me I didn't know what I needed, even though the shoes I tried on sent a stabbing pain through my foot. I remained civil, and he continued to escalate, so I left. I will not return to this store, and I encourage all female customers to think twice before entering it if you don't want to be mansplained or yelled at. read more

Horrible experience. Maybe you have to be a runner to get good service here. I went in because I was experiencing some slight pain probably because of plantar fasciitis. I needed to buy new shoes anyway so I thought this would be a good opportunity to purchase some with excellent support. They watched me walk then I was fitted with some shoes that were very ugly. The color and styles were very limited but I was told it was because of the type of shoe I needed. How cares about what the shoes look like if they help you feel better, right? I wore the shoes out of the store. Stupid, stupid mistake. Please don't do this. I walked in them for a very small amount of time--did some light shopping--and I was in so much pain I could barely stand up. My first thought was obviously these were the wrong shoes. Since this was on a Saturday I had to wait until Monday to speak with them about it. I went back to the store to explain the horrible amount of pain I was experiencing and they recommended me to a podiatrist. That's the manager's thing. He will spend all the time you give him telling you about his foot problems and how they have been taken care of although it doesn't seem he knows what to do about mine. He suggested I buy some better insoles--my insoles were only 3 days old. I fell for it. I just desperately needed the pain to stop. It did not. It got increasingly worse. I went back to the store again. I was in so much pain and told him my 'planter fasciitis' was so much worse since I bought the shoes. He didn't care. He gave me the same recommendation to a podiatrist and guess what! And acupuncture! Because that's what worked for him. Didn't he previously tell me the podiatrist worked? He was not wiling to even look to double check if they shoes were right for my feet/problem. Obviously they were not or I would not have been in this about of pain. He was unwilling to give me a refund and could absolutely care less that I was not satisfied and the shoes they fit me in were causing horrible pain. The manager is arrogant and pompous. Prior to going to Elite Feet, my pain was at about a 2 or 3, after my experience with the shoes, it's almost constantly at a 7. Everyday. I went to my doctor and was given pain medication just to get through the day. It was a nightmare. I eventually went to the podiatrist HE suggested and I was told I didn't have the right shoes. Approximately 6 months later my shoes are worn out and run over. I never run my shoes over. Absolutely not the right fit but he will never, never admit it. Please don't give this place your business. read more

Unbelievable service, worth every penny. If you are anywhere near Kansas City, and are athletic, go directly to Elite Feet and do not pass "Go". I live in Chicago, and I work out several times a week on the treadmill, so shoes are important for joint health. Therefore I always get my shoes from a professional running store, where they fit you. I was in Overland Park on business recently and had time to kill before my flight, so I went to Elite Feet to replace my dying shoes. I have never had a better experience anywhere! Owner Leslie Nottberg spotted my bad ankle in three paces (without me telling her ahead of time), and brought me 3 pairs of shoes to try. I ended up going with the Sauconys, which were more than I wanted to pay, but I was happy to pay it after having such a great experience here. Three things I learned from Leslie: (that no other running store had bothered to tell me) 1. How to properly seat my foot into a shoe (tap your heel on the ground a few times) 2. How to tie my shoes so the top of my foot doesn't hurt ( I had been wearing my shoes loosely tied because tying tight hurt my foot too much. But loose shoes don't support my bad ankle) 3. That I am an 8.5 instead of an 8! How could 5 other running stores miss this? The Nottbergs have picked one thing and excelled at it and that is understanding people's feet and how to find the right shoe for them. Seriously, if you are anywhere near them, make the trip-you will be so glad you did! read more

Make sure you don't let them put you in a shoe that is way oversized for your feet. Returned to the store only to get an insert that was one inch shorter than the shoe? Continued to have pains wearing with the inserts, so finally had to give up on them as my feet were so sore. You wouldn't think a running shoe store could be as pushy as a car salesman, but that's what is going on at Elite Feet. I have gone 3 weeks with leg pain and can't run because of this business. I have been running my whole life, and have never had any leg pain. I went to get new running shoes here since I am new to KC, and they decided to put me in a stability shoe. I went on a run--and screwed up my leg with these new shoes. I went BACK to the store to get a refund, and guess what? As insistent as they were the time before, they insisted I was a size 9 when I have been 8.5 forever. I literally couldn't leave the store with the shoes I wanted. I have been fitted in different stores all over the US, and have never had a problem. I am mad at myself for trusting someone else to know what shoe is right for me, but I am more upset that they were so insistent. Please be weary of their recommendations--no one knows your running better than yourself. Go with your gut, and do yourself a favor and find another running store to get fitted. read more

This place is an excellent place to get running shoes. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they really want to take the time to make sure you feel great about the shoes you find. I have purchased from this store for at least three years, and every experience I have had has been excellent. I was especially impressed with their care and concern with following Covid protocols during my recent visit. I love Elite Feet! I have been going to them for over 10 years, and would not buy running shoes anywhere else. I started going to them at the recommendation of my cross country coach when I started having excruciating knee problems(I obviously saw a doctor about my problems first, since they are not doctors!). No doctor could explain my knee issues and I felt helpless. When I stepped in door I was greeted by friendly staff. They watched me walk barefoot, talked to me about where I was feeling pain, looked at the wear patterns on my current shoes, and asked what I intended to do in my shoes. They put several different brands of shoes on me and let me run outside in all of them. I found one that worked well, but needed tweaking. They ended up adjusting the way the shoes were laced and also put in an insert. I was able to run without pain after I got fitted with the right shoes, and have never looked back! I go back at least once a year to get new shoes(you should replace them after 400 miles) and they always check and make sure my "package" still works for me and if I was having issues with the shoes. This year I went back and got the same ole shoe package that has always worked for me but the shoe manufacturer had changed the shoe! I ended up feeling my pain all over again. I went back to the store, and they did the research to find out what had changed, and found me a new shoe...and I only paid the difference in price to exchange them! The one thing that turns people off is that you don't get to pick your shoes based on look. However, frankly if you are only picking a shoe for its look go to a different store and hope that your "pretty" shoe fixes your issues. Elite feet wants to fix your problems not make a fashion statement. I have had ugly looking shoes and awesome looking shoes....but regardless they always are great shoes! I love this store and will be a customer as long as I can run/walk! read more

I met Leslie at the Overland Park Recycling Extravaganza. She has started this amazing non-profit to help people without shoes. She takes any type of shoes; children, men, women. And boots, flip-flops, roller skates, anything new or used in wearable condition. She donates them to people in need and that included the victims of the 2011 tornado in Joplin. She accepts shoe donations during regular business hours at her store, Elite Feet in Hawthorne Plaza, 119th & Roe. Monday through Saturday 10am to 5 pm and Thursday evening until 7pm. How many of us have an extra pair, or 2, or 3, or 4 of shoes we don't wear that we could donate to this wonderful non-profit? What a delightful woman to meet with such a big heart for helping others. Thank you Leslie and Elite Feet for the solutions to my sore feet! I went in with heel pain that has persisted for months. Leslie promptly and competently fitted me with new shoes, properly fitting arch supports, heel supports and explained to me when and how to wear. I walked out with my regular shoes but with the new arch supports and have had NO pain at all! Prior to coming to Elite I went to a "well advertised" store that say they solve all issues starting at $69.95....and walked out after they presented me with the total cost of $1100 for 3 arch inserts. I would highly recommend seeing Emily with Elite Feet. I came to her because I was starting to experience pain and soreness in my feet due to my pregnancy. She provided the most amazing and relaxing pedicure. She not only made my feet feel relieved of pain but she made my toes look so beautiful too. Due to Emily's knowledge she used products that are safe during my pregnancy and took the time to explain to me certain things to look at to ensure I keep my foot health at its best. Loved my experience yesterday! I am training for a half marathon and my shoes had been causing some pain because they were old and worn down. Wow, Don is really passionate about helping people find the right shoes! He watched me walk without shoes, picked a couple pairs and had me try them on. He taught me the proper way to fit them (i.e. tap your heel before tying them) and lace them up. He even had me run down the block in two different pairs so that I could really feel the difference in them! Extremely helpful, my new shoes are so much more supportive for my flat feet. I've always had excellent service at Elite Feet. I buy my shoes for strength building workouts as well as for my outdoor activities. Always super happy! I took my mom there today. She hasn't had new athletic shoes in a dozen years--and she's not always easy to fit. She's had foot problems (including a toe amputation after being injured playing baseball with my son when he was about 9-might seem odd, but it's a great memory for them both!) and balance issues caused by her feet. Anyway, Brad waited on her, listening attentively and patiently, watched her walk, then brought her a couple pair. She was astonished at how much better she felt in both pair, better balance and amazing comfort. He asked her a few questions and then improved comfort and fit even more by adding an insole. She bought a pair and is thrilled with them...like a young kid, she wore her new shoes when we left!! Brad was just exceptional...as is entire staff. Highly recommend -- this level of service is so welcome and so unusual making it worthwhile the find them at Hawthorne next to swimwear solutions and adjust your schedule if necessary to get there during their hours. read more

This is the best shoe store I have ever visited. I wish I lived in the KC area so I could go more often but I buy a pair of shoes from them everytime I am in the area. A few years ago I began to run and was having all sorts of knee and ankle problems. It was time for new shoes so I stopped into Elite Feet while on business in KC. They noticed that I was wearing the wrong shoes and made mention that because of my particular foot issues that they in good conscience would only sell me one type of running shoe in the entire store because the others were not right for me. I have been wearing this type of shoe now for a few years and have been running pain free ever since that day. Please support this family run business.
