My first recent try was to go the traditional route - heater, filter, bottles of water conditioner & beneficial bacteria, etc. etc. - when I unexpectedly happened upon an eye-opening You-Tube vid about the Walstad method (less homework & a more natural environment, the way God intended). So I returned all that other gear & am starting from scratch. Fernando eased My initial anxiety arriving as a total tank newbie, and gave Me a tour of the various low-maintenance plants I could start My nitrogen cycling with. Nolan - the Captain of this aquarium supplies ship - answered every one of My questions with patience & grace, did not talk down to Me or make Me feel stupid, and I left feeling happily hopeful that I might actually be successful in creating a fish-friendly safe & healthy environment. I am already envisioning My future fishy tenants, plus a snail & a sucker fish or two. Wish Me luck!! :-)

When they first started popping up on Tik Tok I was excited to see a local place getting so much attention. I went in today to pick up crickets for my son's lizard and was watching the turtles and fish in the pool when I noticed a turtle that looked like he was standing at the bottom of the pool and was almost completely white. First thought was oh maybe it's an albino turtle, then I got closer and watched the fish and other turtles bump him and he remained completely still. I pointed him out to my husband who then went to tell a worker behind the register and his response was "ugh those turtles are so gross I hate them" Okay odd thing to say but whatever I hate spiders so who am I to judge. He tells another worker who then grabs a bucket and goes over and removed the dead turtle. A few minutes later I'm standing next to the pool and another woman who was there said to a worker that there was a catfish fighting with one of the turtles. I looked into the pool and the very large catfish had a small/medium sized turtled in its mouth and was violently thrashing it around. I gasped and looked to the 3 workers behind the register and the woman with braids who was there (whom I've seen from the tiktok videos) told the other worker "Go do something about that". That worker then came over to the pool and attempted multiple times to get the turtle from the catfish while saying " oh this guy's a goner" I made eye contact with the woman worker who seemed to realize the urgency and said " Just get in there" He finally got the turtle and when he pulled him out, his neck was stretched out abnormally far and he was in fact " a goner". Both male workers had made mutple comments about the catfish attacking the turtles implying that this wasn't the first time it had happened which made me question why you would keep them in the same pool when it continues to be an issue. I immediately left after that. I understand "circle of life" and all of that but in the wild where circle of life would apply, those turtles would not be trapped in a both with those Catfish and would have at least a chance at getting away. My other concern is this place claims to be a rescue and is all over social media claiming to care for these animals but this is how they treat them in front of people. It makes you wonder how they treat them when no one is looking.

We enjoyed the scenic 15 min ride on the train around the park. Please note this is on every third weekend of the month. Rides are free but donations are gladly accepted. Plenty of parking. If you don't want to wait long or want to avoid the heat I would suggest going early. Also be sure to check their website or social media account before going to make sure they are open :)

We absolutely love Discovery Cube Orange County! It's such a great place for kids to learn,…read moreexplore, and have fun at the same time. The exhibits are incredibly interactive, and they're constantly changing things out, so there's always something new to discover. The admission prices are already very reasonable, but we ended up getting an annual pass because you can easily make your money back within just a couple of visits. The annual pass also includes free parking, which is a nice bonus. Even better, the membership gives you access to a network of science centers and museums around the country that are part of the same organization, so when you're traveling, there's a good chance you'll be able to visit another participating science museum for free or at a discounted rate. The Discovery Cube itself is much bigger than I expected from the outside. You can easily spend several hours here, especially with younger kids. Pretty much every exhibit is hands-on and interactive, which makes it much more engaging than a traditional museum. My favorite exhibit is the supermarket. You get a shopping cart with a screen and go around the store scanning different items based on the game or challenge on the screen. It's surprisingly fun and also sneaks in some learning about nutrition, shopping, and making healthy choices. Overall, this is one of those places we're happy to keep coming back to, especially with the kids. The annual pass is absolutely worth it if you live nearby and plan on visiting more than once or twice. One small tip: bring hand sanitizer. With so many interactive exhibits and kids touching everything, you'll definitely want it!

Upon entering the museum, there was a display of build your own racing cars where a lot of kids were racing their creations. It was definitely a fun site to see. As you venture throughout the museum towards the back area, you walk into the dinosaur exhibit area. This is where they talk about fossils and various dinosaurs and there's also an explorer kit that you pay extra to try and find items and clues. Upstairs, you can have a better view of the space missile rocket that's on display and it's quite fascinating to read about rockets. Towards the back right of the museum currently there is a Scooby Doo Halloween exhibit so it was also fun to experience that area. Lastly, the most famous area is still the indoor Minh water area where you can see where is fish and stingrays. Overall a great experience for kids and adults. One less star as you have to pay $10 to park in their parking lot. I remember many years ago I used to be free, but I guess since it's more popular, you have to pay for parking now.

Most games cost about 5 nickels at most, which is about a quarter per game. You can order quarters in bulk, 3, 5, 9, or 10$. It is a baggie filled with nickels for whatever price point you decide to buy. You can also request additional baggies to separate your coins between People or baggies for your tickets. Admission is about $2 per person to get in, but it is not expensive at all. With $20, the four of us spent a good 1 hour and 30 minutes having fun. We were also able to get some really cool prizes at the end. My kids loved it, and although it is a drive for us from the San Fernando Valley, we will be making this trip very often because it is so worth it. Highly recommend this arcade spot.
