Elite Training Center changed my life in a matter of 6 months. I went in not expecting much but so far I have received more positivity and self-confidence just by being around the instructors here. They are PROFESSIONALS here at Elite, and are very serious when it comes to your self protection training. They do teach you the cool and crazy moves, but more importantly they spend more time enhancing your awareness, reaction speed, and aggression. Elite has something for everyone and any age, even bringing exciting workshops to the gym! Great place to learn kickboxing and Krav Maga. Not a place for those seriously interested in fighting due to lack of sparring and level of classes. Very friendly atmosphere and the cleanest gym ever. Elite has great training, the blackbelt instructors are clearly very skilled, the instructors very friendly for the most part, and the facilities, albeit a bit crowded (especially during groupon runs), are clean and pretty well maintained. I very much enjoyed the instruction during my time, and the skills taught were awesome. Unfortunately the business backdrop and strict contract (combined with loosey-goosey communication from the office) provided a very negative experience, and ultimately - very unfortunately - I will never go back to Elite. A list of the negatives that lead me to this end. Read Julie L's review as well - clearly I wasn't the only one who experienced this approach to the business: - when I signed up, since I work in the north side of south bay, I was told they had a second location opening within a month in Hermosa. Well, it took greater than 5 months from that day for it to open, and turns out it's an entirely separate gym - you can only go to Redondo, or Hermosa.....not both, and the Hermosa weekly class selection is greatly reduced from Redondo....so it was a no-win situation for me. - Don't expect any flexibility with life events (other than massive injury, or death - literally). Change of jobs, an extreme period of work travel, relocation, a month of paternity/maternity - none of these events will be considered enough for a temporary hold on membership, and again its a year commitment (South Bay Krav has quarterly packages and REKM has monthly packages for those times in life when you know you might need to take a month or two off). They prefer to pay existing members finder's fees for new members than retain members that might need a short time off for a life event. - Only hard copy cards of your progress are kept with hand made marks- my card was lost more than once, and the attitude was "it will probably show up sometime." It did after ~3 weeks of me attempting to track classes myself. At promotion time, there were skills that I hadn't even taken a class for, even though my card was filled. - It wasn't made clear upon signing up that one cannot promote past the basic level, even if you make it to promotion halfway through your membership, without a year commitment (at ~$1500 - $2k). Grouponers, beware. You might as well sign up for the year after groupon, or not at all (they offer a 6 month starter package, but you can be ready to promote in ~3 months and you will be held back unless you pay up for a year). - The curriculum is not visible anywhere - the only way is to ask an instructor in person which class is being offered that day, and then try and track the sequence on infinitum. Therefore, if you are trying to learn and progress with any sense of efficiency or plan, according to their promotion requirements, ....you're S.O.L. Be prepared to miss an entire required skill for months, and take other skills many more times than required for promotion, and then take flak for "not wanting to repeat classes" when you ask what class is being offered. This approach works great if your goals have no time associated with them, and no care about money. However, it works great for the business. - There is a clause in the contract you sign - it's clause # 10 in the many lines of fine print - that states that there is 30 day cancellation policy. Don't expect because you make your intention clearly known to not continue your membership that they consider that "notice." They will hand you a card with the 30 day policy and charge you an extra month. Another squeezing the of every last dollar out of the member vs. being a well intentioned studio with the student in mind. Elite pretty much has a monopoly on Redondo area of South Bay, and I'm sure for folks with plenty of time on their hands, jobs without travel, and no young kids, Elite would be a good gym - the instruction and instructors are great - they were very friendly and "go-team" oriented. But, based on the business practices behind the studio, I would recommend for most working individuals trying SouthBay Krav and/or REKM. Those will be my next stops. read more

I was introduced to Elite by a friend about a year ago and have been training there ever since. The faculty, students, and all around atmosphere are so friendly and welcoming. I love how the school is open to so many people of all ages, background and fitness level. I want to give a little of my background which I hope lends some credibility to this review. I have been training on and off at Elite for I think about 4 years, love the place for a variety of reasons- most importantly the staff's authenticity and consideration for students. The schedule of both morning and evening classes all week is amazing too, with variety in Muay Thai, Krav, Kali, and MMA. I do feel like the place is family oriented (not just for kids but everyone involved), a real tribal community, and I consider that a GREAT thing in this day in age where solid relationships on a meaningful level are lacking. I am a former D1 linebacker and competitive powerlifter, former college strength and conditioning coach at two D1 schools, and have been a strength coach and sport psychology consultant for Olympic and professional athletes as well (mainly NFL combine prep). I am a retired police officer that worked patrol, on a major metropolitan SWAT team, Peer Support, and full time police academy instructor running the fitness programs for cadets, recruits, in-service, SWAT, gang, narcs, as well the department's officer survival program which was a heavy emphasis on realistic scenario based training both hands on and Simmunitions. I have done extensive tactical training with my agency but also with Storm Mountain Training Center, Tony Blauer, and Dave Grossman just to name a few. My life has been training and coaching for sports and for law enforcement. I have an MS in forensics and an MS in sport psychology so aside from experience had to grind through academic theory and science behind many training issues (I prefer real world experience to books). When it comes to knowledge and experience in training athletes and warriors, the owner and coaches do things right, do it with passion, and do it with altruistic hearts. A while back I helped a federal agency put on training seminars combining martial arts, sports nutrition, and strength and conditioning all over the LA/OC area for the law enforcement community. It gave me a chance to visit and look into a lot of places. Here in SoCa we are spoiled at the number of places we can train MMA related combatives. There are lots of descent places in the South Bay, but hands down if I was a local cop, or I had children, Elite would be the place to be. You do get realistic training for self-defense, plenty of character development, fitness, and make lifelong friends. It operates on an entirely different level in regard to the relationships of the coaches and customers than any place I have experienced, which it seems some people knocked in their reviews. The only sort of individual I might perceive to not like the environment that is like family, is the young want to learn to brawl, compete, or let the ego dominate. That is the only sort of person I might venture would not like what is going on at Elite...so perhaps if you want to puff your chest and talk tough at a bar, or be in an environment of only competitive fighters 24-7 switched on adrenaline and testosterone, maybe Elite is not for you. However with that being said, there are highly competitive fighters at Elite, and the coaches and owner are networked with the competition community in addition to the tactical community. So what is wrong with getting training from people who respect family and children, train professional fighters, and train elite warriors in law enforcement and the military (which they do not broadcast but I know it to be true). This is both a family oriented group and a patriotic service dedicated cadre at Elite. I have witnessed people's lives being transformed at Elite. From adults with health problems, weight issues, or wanting to get into a career that requires fitness. I have seen children flourish with self-esteem, discipline, manners and social skills. I know a child who was able to get off medications only after a few months at Elite (exercise, mentoring, discipline, self-esteem), and now gets As and Bs when they used to struggle academically. I see teenagers acting twice their age in and out of classes, happy, respectful, and eager to help others in their training. I have seen adults transform their bodies and minds over a few short years and their aura take on a whole new demeanor. When I see another student or coach around town it is like seeing a good friend. There were a few years I had medical issues and was unable to train, the staff at Elite still kept in touch to support and encourage me the entire time, even if I had been bad about reaching back. I realize no place nor person is perfect, but for a martial arts school this place is quite welcoming and accommodating. If you are reading these reviews I would encourage you to just come give it a try for yourself. I started training here for Krav Maga about 6 months ago and also signed up my son for the 5 year old Kids Jiujitsu class. All the staff here are friendly and always helpful. The members are all down to earth and you do not get the bros and spazzs that are prominent in lots of martial arts gyms. This is important because the last thing you want to worry about is getting hurt while training. Many training partners let the testosterone get the best of them and can get very overzealous. This tends to make things very dangerous for training partners. But I have not dealt with that at Elite. Not only that, the teachers here will take extra time to go over proper techniques. Apparently, these "beginner" classes are in increments of 10 and I happened to join in on class 9 of the series. This is the best training I have ever receive in my military career. If you are looking to defend yourself and the ones you love, join this training center. I am a U.S. Army Infantry Soldier that wanted to learn critical techniques that will make the difference between coming home to my family or dying in combat. These highly effective skills are only taught to Special Forces and Delta Teams in the Army. The skills you will learn are basic and easy to remember, but like any skill will take a lifetime to master. If you ever get into a fight, and I hope you never will, going through this training will save your life. The teaching is exceptional; the crawl, walk, run method combined with endurance strengthening is far superior than other styles of martial arts I have taken. A basic class follows: You warm up as a class so that you don't injure yourself. The warm up is also to condition your endurance. The instructors give a demonstration then you pair up with a partner. You practice the technique at your and your partners agreed speed. Then the instructors walk around and advise you how to better the technique. Then they tire you out by repeating the technique. This is done to simulate a real fight. You will get tired when you fight. The instructor then gives you the second part of the technique. The combinations of multiple strikes improves your chances of surviving a fight. Throughout the training the instructors advise running away and distancing yourself from the attacker or attackers is the best way to fight. They train you to be in the worst possible situation and tired so you can survive. Don't take my word as gospel, try two free classes and you will be writing your own five star review. read more

I have been a student at elite for around 15 months and I love it. I went in because I missed boxing and wanted something that would improve my fitness, change up my routine, and improve my reflexes as well as giving me a hand to hand combat/self defense skill set. Knowing people from other local boxing and mma gyms, I was hesitant to go anywhere that seemed like a testosterone heavy "bent on fighting" kind of place. Elite had Krav Maga and was close to me so I decided to give it a chance. I could not be happier that I did and I can't encourage others to try it more strongly. Elite is actually as different from what I had come to view as a stereotypical mma gym could be with the exception that it does in fact teach mma. The facilities are very clean and well maintained, and one of the first things they tell you when you come in to try out their two free classes is that this is a place where you check your ego at the door. People who cannot do that will generally not be at Elite for long. This makes for an amazing and welcoming training environment. New students are paired with more experienced students who know that part of their role in class is to help new people, not necessarily focus on getting in the harder workout on any given day. Every staff member from the owner on down emphasizes the importance of supporting other members of the elite community, be it from coming to big test and promotion days (where students endure hours of physical challenges to move up in rank and program, and those who support endure the same workout) or supporting a local charity drive or band performance. Elite is not a competition. It is a supportive community and that makes it unique. It also offers many different programs an encourages cross training. Though I was initially hesitant to take on anything beyond Krav and Muay Thai, I have seen the benefits in adding Kali (which I now really love) and mma to my regimen. To be able to train all of these arts in one place is fantastic and as other reviewers have said, the schedule provides plenty of opportunity to train different skills at different times of day. Also, the "extreme" cardio classes are very challenging and can give even the fittest person a serious workout while also being appropriate for new people. The instructors encourage and push students to test their limits but its not a boot camp where you are yelled at or chastised for not being able to so every rep perfectly. I haven't had a gym membership outside of elite for years and I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. Lastly, though I don't have children, seeing the benefits of the Elite classes for children, as well as Elite's one time seminars and "bully buster" workshops, it is definitely something I would want any kids I know to have the chance to do. They do have some really great teachers at this school and also were very kind/helpful to my fiancé whether it was financially, or simply a brotherhood. Very focused on technique and try their best to acknowledge every student in their packed classrooms. I learned a lot in the time I spent here but you can't rely on the classes alone, you need to practice on your own as well. The teachers who stood out to me the most were Tommy and Andres, I highly recommend privates from them. I was never taught anything by the owner personally but everyone seems to really enjoy his classes. The few downsides about this school when I went here was that they lost their jiu jitsu program, their extremely strict contract, you can't do bag/pad work outside of classes, and it's extremely crowded. Overall a pretty decent school and you'll pick up a lot of combative knowledge. read more

Only 5 stars? Elite deserves 500 stars! Where do I even begin? First of all, upon registration, everything is explained upfront- No Hidden fees, etc. They do ask for a 6 month commitment, because they are Equally as Committed to their quality of training. Which leads me to my next point-the quality of training. All of the staff/instructors are amazing, and the class sizes are small and age appropriate, allowing for maximum, individual, hands on training. We completely respect other styles of training, but we especially like Elite's style, which is total hands on, you are being attacked, defend your life~style. Different styles work for different people, but this works for our daughter. No memorizing of katas, etc- just real life attack situations. BULLIES BEWARE--these kids ( even super littles!:) are trained to Defend themselves, in a completely FUN yet challenging environment, and while maintaining their dignity and respect.
