So, I have been going to Elixir for a few years now and prior to the last maybe 4 months, I really couldn't give it a favorable rating. Now mind you, I do not go there for the bar atmosphere but merely a good lunch and what had been served to me was nothing to brag about. Well, low and behold, they have a new chef and his lunch offerings have been awesome. He has been preparing lovely fish specials with roasted tomatoes, capers and cooked deliciously! I especially loved the trout and the salmon with the lemon garlic butter was fabulous. I have been visiting more often and am pleased to say, I love it. Eh. Went for lunch and giving it a three because the pretzels sticks were awesome. Ordered a Caesar salad and it was not very good. Dressing comes on the side, no croutons, chicken was very dry, a little bit of cheese. Would not recommend that dish. Boyfriend got the buffalo chicken wrap and that was much better. read more

First coming into this restaurant it was amazing. Drinks started off great, we were given a bucket of unlimited mimosas after everyone at the table ordered it. However time went on and out party of 12 ordered and then meals were coming out one at a time to the point it was a half hour between plates. This was beyond unacceptable especially since we reserved a table for our large party. The table behind us with the same amount was receiving food before my party. This set me off!! This was not only not acceptable but beyond disrespectful! How can a table that was seated an hour after us receive their meals before us? Most of the food that was served to my table was cold even when served right away, completely disorganized and not prepared for larger parties. Me and my friend were using the bathroom then not even 2 minutes later, a bartender named Kailee comes in and starts banging on everyone's bathroom door like a lunatic for no reason saying "I work here i need to use the bathroom!!! Get out!!!" As if I am suppose to stop mid pee because she was more important. When my friend told her how we weren't even in the bathroom that long, her friend said "she works here she doesn't have to wait." Me and my friends are bartenders and some even bartend downtown and we would always let the customer go first or at least wait our turn but banging on the door is nasty behavior. Then we get out of the bathroom and suddenly Kailee and her friend start calling us ratchet and ghetto which seems racially motivated because we are all minorities. I would have rated five but I hate to rate something a 5 unless I have been there a few times. I have been wanting to try a Happy Hour here but just never got around to it. I decided to drop in today for lunch even though I was a little nervous since they have only just begun to offer lunch and I couldn't find any reviews. The bar itself is pretty and clean. The waitresses and cute and helpful. There is a large bar area along with a few tables large enough for lunch groups (there were two other groups of 5-8 people lunching when I dropped by today.) I don't recall seeing any small tables but I didn't go to the back area of the bar. The menu is short but I prefer a small menu with 10-15 things done well than 50+ things done poorly. I ordered the chicken and biscuits which is served with homemade mac and cheese. The chicken was crispy and the batter had good flavor which contrasted well with the biscuits and gravy it was served with. What I really liked about the chicken is that while it was fried, it wasn't greasy so the oil was very fresh. You can tell the mac and cheese is homemade with white cheese (maybe parmasan and white cheddar.) I prefer sharp cheddar in my mac and cheese so while it had good flavor it just wasn't for me. Another table ordered burgers all around and they looked pretty good so I will probably order a burger next time. I definitely want to head back for that Happy Hour one evening soon. Maybe then I can bump the rating up to a solid 5. read more

By definition, an elixir is a magical or medicinal potion which is able to prolong life indefinitely. Each drink is concocted in a manner that not only accomplishes this but also leaves you begging for more (and more after that). The menu is from top to bottom some of the best food around town and continuously amazes me. There is not a single item that disappoints. I could go on for hours and hours about the masterful prep, the phenomenal staff, and the incredible atmosphere but sometimes it's better to keep things short and sweet, so in closing, Elixir is one of the real hidden gems of downtown Orlando and is destined to become a true landmark and foodie destination for years to come. read more

There for a watch party and the waitress lost my debit card. Waited for about 20 minutes as she and her coworkers searched for my debit card which was later found in the trash. To add insult to injury, the "supervisor" said he would comp my meal, which later turned to 50% of, which was really only 12 dollars off...he charged my card 21 instead of the originally 33. This place had just about everything I was looking for in a sit down with friends and chat bar. The drinks were well mixed, the beer...well was standard beer, and the vibe overall was nice. The dj was the actor that played the dj in Zoolander. Same. Exact. Dude. His music choice and blending with dance music was top notch. The only have one pool table so that is kind of a bummer once since there seemed to be a line of people wanting to play. As the night progressed, the place filled up and the clientele were hip and pretty darn attractive. Single Mike would have loved to come here back in the day with the boys. Nice group of people. I have been lunching downtown for almost 8 years and I remembered today why Elixir is not high on my lunch-spot-list - it costs almost $20 for a straightforward buffalo wrap and drink! Over the past few months, I think Elixir has tried to do the right things in creating a better lunch menu and catering more to the business lunch crowd. The food is mostly ok, but the "add-ons" to each lunch meal are far from reasonable - 50 cents for one (small) extra side of dressing (that comes on/with the item I ordered) and $1.50 upcharge for tater tots instead of fries. Of course, neither of these "charges" are listed anywhere on the menu or told to me by our server. So with a drink, I had a $19 lunch today that would have cost $12 anywhere else downtown. Elixir, if you want to compete, make some changes to your lunchtime policies. read more

Went to Elixir on a Sunday afternoon only two other people sitting at the bar. Took forever to get a drink. The bartender was too busy watching TV and her back was turned to us most of the time while we were there. She didn't take the time to talk to anyone. We would have ordered another round of drinks, but she was not interested to seeing how we were doing. Such a shame I heard so many great thing about this bar. This place could really be amazing. I think it's heading in that direction...at least I hope so. *It's in a great location on the corner of Washington and Orange. It's directly across from where I work. It used to be an old Irish bar and has been vacant for years - I'm excited something is now there! *They serve lunch. This is key to me since I'm mostly looking for good lunch spots. *They serve my favorite beer....Goose Island 312 from Chicago. I've only ever seen it here and it's also now at World of Beer. *Service is good, food is decent. I've been there twice. First time it wasn't great - second time it was much better. I still think they can give you more french fries...but that's just me. *The decor is awesome - I love the speakeasy look. They did a nice job cleaning up the place and obviously poured some money into the project. My only real complaint is that both times that I've been there my food was warn/cool. I want it HOT. But I can't wait to see what they do with this in the future. read more

I have been to Elixir a couple of times and honestly have never stayed for more than one drink. Everything is just very average to me. From the beer selection to the service. I am also not happy with their beer prices. It is way overpriced for the area. With all the choices of place to go downtown, I don't think Elixir will be a place I see myself often visiting. read more

I came here a couple of times and I was never wowed. The first time I came for a special event and the prices were cheap so we had to try it. Honestly, it was average and the drink selection is not that great. The service is HORRIBLE. The servers take forever to take your order or even come to greet you when you first come in. On top of that they have horrible attitudes. I think they should stick to the bar them and forget about the food. They need to work on their service skills. My boyfriend ordered the bear battered chicken fingers the other day and choked on a piece of chicken because the batter was so tough and crunchy he couldn't chew it. I was disappointed with this bar. They had live music but it was so loud you could not hear enough to hold conversations. The food was okay but service was slow. Strong drinks though which is nice. I'd eat here every day if I could. the servers and bartenders are beyond knowledgable of the menu. they have homemade soup and daily specials, usually one of which is the freshest fish you're going to find in central FL, let alone in a restaurant hidden away downtown! make sure you sign up for email list as it'll tell you what's going on each day, the salmon is always on point with differing styles of preparation and marinating every time. the menu boasts mouthwatering and delicious burgers, the 'Elixir burger' of which is the talk of the town. we always start with the loaded tots but their flatbreads are an amazing appetizer (the chicken flatbread is my favorite) everyone is super friendly and they serve food all day and evening with all you can eat wings on Thursday nights. I'd definitely recommend this place to any friend, you just can't go wrong. read more

Either the service here is great or poor. The place looks great. They have great bourbons you won't find at most other bars in downtown Orlando. I'm from Reno. Surprisingly, we're way ahead of the curve with whiskey and cocktails. There's a hidden speakeasy Hanson's in downtown Orlando that has only been open a couple years. We have several craft and classic cocktail places, one that has been open since 2007. So, I kept coming here for the bourbons. Otherwise, it's not much of a nightlife scene. Maybe if you add some jazz or more mellow music, maybe go for an older more sophisticated crowd? I went to Tanqueray for a more sophisticated atmosphere but choked on the smoke. Went here to watch a UF Gator game and it was a great atmosphere. Lots of screaming fans and the service was great. Had the Cheeseburger and it was one of the best burgers I've had. The ONLY critique I would have is this burger deserves Bibb lettuce instead of the chopped stuff that's on it, but it was yummy. When I'm craving a juicy burger, I'll head here for sure. read more

Make sure to check your bank balance the next day..... I was there recently and my check card was charged almost $1,400.00. I went back the next day to show them and get it remedied and asked them to fax over letter to my bank. The manager sent me copy of letter they were going to fax and my name and bank information were incorrect. The manager sent me new ltr that she said she'd fax that day. Long story short, I called my bank the next day and no letter was ever recd. I emailed and faxed letter myself and charges were debited back to my acct in minutes. This was my first time back at elixir since they renovated the area. Great renovation, however, might I also recommend a renovation of their bar staff. I was here on a Sunday night, the bar wasn't insanely busy, but the bartenders all had terrible attitudes and clearly did not want to be at work. There were times that not one, but three! bartenders completely ignored me and my group of friends, it was so difficult to get a drink and not one time were we greeted upon walking up to the bar. On top of being flat out rude, the bartenders were constantly on their cell phones texting, browsing the Internet & what not. I understand we all have bad days, but it's part of their job as bartenders to put on a smile and atleast pretend to be pleasant with bar patrons....I mean tips are a big part of their paycheck, and with attitudes like that they sure as hell weren't going to a decent tip from me. Just sent a message to the management. We have been going to this restaurant for years...literally since they opened. We are OC fans, however our son who plays soccer competitively, really likes Atlanta. We went as a family supporting both teams, and when we walked through the doors with our son who was wearing an Atlanta jersey, the patrons aggressively cursed and forced us out. My son, who is 15, was so ashamed. I had to teach him that he's allowed to support whatever teams he wants, and that there's nothing wrong with a little friendly competition. I was ashamed of our fans, seeing as after the Pulse incident we united as one City and preached tolerance, and a kid who wanted to support a different team was cursed and yelled at. Disgusting.
