Celebrated my anniversary here and really enjoyed the experience. When I made the reservation they asked if I was celebrating anything, so I shared. Was really impressed that there was a congratulations card at our table, signed by the whole staff, plus multiple employees stoped by the table to share too. Nice touch! We sat outside in the screened in pouch overlooking Lake Superior. Really great view and unique experience. Lots of unique drinks on the drink menu, with happy hour offerings. I went with my stand by... Dirty Beefeater Martini. But my wife had something unique... but I couldn't tell you what it was. Service was excellent and our food was great. Possibly the best steak you've ever had, definitely a rare opportunity to enjoy a salt plate. GF House Oysters (gf) (df) $5.95(1) - $23.95(6) - $39.95(12) East coast James River oysters. Six, twelve or individual. Chophouse House Salad (gf) $8.95 Mixed greens, apples, blue cheese, caramelized pecans, champagne apple vinaigrette. Morels were in season, so we were able to add them to the steak and both were delicious. I particularly loved the salt plate the steak was served on. So much flavor!! The salad was good and the oysters were also good. We ordered the pecan praline dessert that I thought was ok. I probably would have liked something else for dessert. I definitely didn't care for the Brussels sprouts. I'd recommend getting some other side dish. I loved being able to look outside from our perch within the restaurant. After doing a little brewery hopping, we wanted a nice dinner before the July 4th festivities. With limited options, we chose the Chop House. We decided to sit on the patio area and we were ushered back right away. Our server was great and he was well mannered and checked on us in reasonable times. I have no complaints about him:) we ordered a couple appetizers one of them including the lobster bisque. Oh my goodness!!! This was the best lobster bisque I have ever had in my entire life. You have to try this when you go. Hands-down was better than the entrées that we had. We also ordered a salad which was a good touch of greens . The patio was very cute, overall ambiance was solid inside and on the patio. It was clean and cozy. Not pictured: bread basked, the assortment of rolls sliced bread and crackers I truly appreciated along with the scooped butter. Chopped wedge salad, it was your average house salad. The asparagus had great flavor, I do like mine a little more crunchy. The au gratin potatoes seemed burnt to me, it was late on a Monday when I did dine there. The meatloaf is not what I normally expect. It was very dense and didn't have much flavor. I did want the halibut and Pinot Nior, but they didn't have either (no biggie, the menu was a healthy size). The waiter was great. He was very knowledgeable and very honest with the menu, gave in-site on the town, and was just a calming person. Nice restaurant, great old building with beautiful floors and very nicely set tables. I always start with the cocktail list and wine menu as a gauge for my experience and immediately knew I was in trouble when I saw "Meiomi" as a BTG option! You can buy Meiomi at any grocery store for$14 a bottle. The wine list is the most uninspiring list I have seen in years. The menu itself had bacon hanging from something and steaks served on a Himalayan salt block and a gimmick themed menu should have been my second clue how things were going to go. Service was flat and our waitress Jane was about as disinterested as a server could be. Recommendations and advice were nonexistent. When refilling water it was splashed all over the table and down my back as she walked away. Wonderful. The food was as boring and as uninspired as I imagined it would be.The steaks were cooked correctly, however tasted as though they were trying to make some average taste fantastic. They failed. The sides were overly complicated with too many ingredients. It is the type of restaurant that has desserts on a tray. We didn't order dessert. Disclaimer: My wife enjoyed the experience overall. We arrived at 4:30 on a Thursday afternoon. The server was pleasant and prompt. The bar service was slow. I ordered a filet mignon and it was horrible. The texture was mushy and didn't taste like meat at all. I mentioned my concerns to our server and she replied that they've had issues with the cook. This was more than a cook issue. The best of the best: Get the hickory smoked ribeye on the Himalayan salt block. Out of this world flavor! But the rest of the menu is a 4 star based on our several dining experiences over the last few years. On our most recent visit the Caesar salad was too sweet (however the croutons were superb!), we had oysters for an appetizer and two of them had an off taste. We mentioned this to the waitress but still paid the full price per oyster. My wife ordered the filet and it was cooked perfectly. And the vegetable side was steamed and seasoned well. Her chophouse house salad was superb, fresh and full of flavor! The tiramisu cake was excellent, full of flavor and moist. Coupled with the French pressed coffee the overall experience was superb. Would have given 5 out of 5 had our minor concerns been addressed instead of overlooked and at this price point the meals should be flawless. If not they should be corrected without hesitation. On 1/15/2025 we went to this establishment for a birthday celebration. We've been there a few times before and it was good. This time it was great. We had Sashimi and oysters Rockefeller for apps, excellent! For dinner I had the scallops, which were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. My spouse had the salmon, which was on par with my dish. For dessert we shared, with much leftover the carrot cake. Everyone was wonderful, from host to servers. Timing the plates was perfect. The experience was good, it was my girlfriend and i 1 year anniversary and we wanted to do something we had never done before. Our waitress was super sweet and very accommodating but the atmosphere was not the best we felt very out of place and the other customers we sat next to were very rude, he was very clearly a lot more well off then we were and the comments he was making towards my girlfriend were very wrong and ruined most the experience for us. The food was sub par for the price but having the chef come out and speak to us was something ever never experienced before, we most likely would not go back but it was something we had never done before and for that I'll take it read more

We waited for our drinks, longer than necessary and were charged a cocktail price for a mocktail, apparently there's no discount on a mocktail. When I requested a Stella, the waitress came back and said they were out and they had coors light, as though any descent beer drinker would put those in the same category! Happened upon this place in Marquette by accident on a Monday night- nice to see there is a higher end steakhouse in Marquette. The Caesar salad has real anchovies and they have blue cheese stuffed olives for the dirty martini which is a must for a steakhouse. My dad and I shared the tomahawk and lobster special- the tomahawk comes out table side and is cut at the table so adds a bit of drama. Foie gras addition was a bit over cooked but good menu diversity overall and good wine selection- we will be back! read more

I'm not quite sure what I was expecting but this chophouse was very basic, not what I had imagined. We were seated and had a nice table ordered some drinks and decided on food items. The waiter recommended the shrimp appetizer and it was good, but nothing special. We also decided to split a steak because we both were not starving. The filet was a little over cooked, we always order ours medium-rare, but we didn't want to complain. The wine & my company was the best part of dinner. They are very generous with the bacon that is mixed into them and the thai chili sauce is a perfect touch that brings it all together. My husband got the ribeye on the salt block. Four of us went there for a celebratory dinner. Three of us had steaks, which were excellent. One of us had scallops, which were disappointing in that they were small and one of them appeared to be only half of a scallop. A side of "exotic mushrooms" was greasy and over-salted. A bowl of cheese soup was also over-salted and overcooked, with a consistency that was more like a thick custard than a soup. Service was good though very delayed at times. Traveling from Vegas, this restaurant seemed to stand out among Marquette options. Reserved a table online and were promptly seated. The view of Lake Superior was amazing and the classy ambiance was notable. However, the wait times after that were unacceptable. It took 2.5 hours to get our dinners. By then, half our meals had dried out or wilted. The steaks were good, though. Cocktails were also good. But, I won't recommend this restaurant. Wow, I had no idea such a nice place existed in Marquette! I was traveling for work in the area and my co-workers and I were looking for a place for dinner. We called one place, but seeing as the wait was 90 minutes and we were starving, we went with Elizabeth's. This place is kinda fancy but accepted our casual attire. I would say this is an "occasion" restaurant, the type of place you go to celebrate a birthday/anniversary/something special. The menu was a typical chop house but had some nice fish selections as well. The only reason for 4 stars was the service was terribly slow. I guess eating here is an experience, but we didn't need the 2 hour dinner, we just wanted to eat. The food was very yummy, everyone seemed pleased with their dishes (salmon, steak, prime rib, chicken, and ahi tuna sushimi). All cooked the way we requested (except I asked for no butter/oil on my asparagus but it still came cooked in some). All together, a solid 4 stars! My friend had the cheese plate, ribeye with twice baked potato, and the sampler dessert tray. Lobster fingers were amazing. Scallops were so gritty I couldn't eat them, rinse your scallops! Salmon was great, risotto was dry, cream brûlée was very shallow. The cheese plate said there were five cheese and there were four and not enough crackers. Ribeye wasn't seasoned at all, potato was great, desserts were good too. Overall it was a good experience, but for the money it is not worth it. It's a little by chance that we ended up dining at Elizabeth's Chop House tonight. It's wasn't sure that we would spend two nights in Marquette and the first night, after 7+ hours drive, there was no way we were going to leave the hotel. But on that Thursday night we felt like indulging with some nice food in a restaurant with a nice view. Those were the requirements. After cross-comparing Google, Yelp, Facebook and TripAdv, it became evident that he nicest place was that nice restaurant on Front Street with a heated terrace overlooking Lake Superior. Still we were not expecting too much. After two and a half week of all-American food we were overstuffed with the fried things, the basic steaks, the Asian fusion and didn't think anything on our trip would out-do the wonderful meal we had at David Chang's NYC Momofuku-Nishi. And we didn't expect a restaurant in Marquette, a somehow remote city on the far away shores of far away Lake Michigan, would be " that " good. But we were wrong. It's been ten years that Tom Wahlstrom and his lovely wife Elizabeth started this elegant restaurant in "vthe " gourmet street of quaint downtown Marquette. The main room is all painted black, a long bar on the side, elegant dining tables, plus a lovely terrace overlooking the lake, covered and heated in the cold months. Tables are also elegantly dressed. Service is excellent and believe me, I don't use this adjective lightly. Every single need was fitted and also our waiter exceeded our demands through some precognitive qualities due to observation and a keen ear. The carte is very cosmopolitan (so was my cocktail) giving a large part to vegetables and seafood, but also a full page reserved for meat. Everything we had ranged from very good to exquisite. They aim for quality and utter satisfaction of the guests. We got a chance to greet the owner and chef Tom Wahlstrom which was friendly and generous (oh many many thanks for the extra morels) and sure knows how to give his customers a great time. The wine list is very complete and reasonably priced. So was our meal. Cocktails, appetisers, big meat dish, many sides, two bottles of wine, desserts and coffee, all that for three persons for less than $105 a head. Perfect !!! Bravo. Had dinner on the heated patio, which was very comfortable temp wise, and adequately social distanced. Service was great and the food was amazing. My wife and I both had surf and turf with perfectly cooked medium filets. She had lobster and I had crab legs for the surf portion. It was down the street from our hotel and without much research we checked into our room then headed to the restaurant for a late dinner and a desire for a good meal. Social distancing and masks were all well represented. As the tables were reserved we chose to sit at the bar. Again bar seating was approprately spread out. Our bartender/waiter was an incredibly professional, efficient and personable young man who is also a student at NMU. We ordered and loved the crispy brussel sprouts appetizer. We came to Elizabeth's on the recommendation of a friend - it was our first visit to the restaurant. We started with the unique spicy whitefish bites, which were flavorful and as amazing as our knowledgeable waiter, Matthew, promised they would be: tender, lightly fried, with a spicy aioli sauce. This is definitely a specialty of the house and something that you don't see many other places. For appetizers, we also ordered the cheese plate, not necessarily that adventurous of a choice, but we love cheeses . . . And it did NOT disappoint. The cheese plate roasted every few weeks, and this week it included: (i) Stockinghall Cheddar, (ii) Pyrénées Brebis, (iii) Humboldt Fog, and (iv) Shropshire Blue. I think most caseophiles will be familiar with the Humboldt Fog, which has made the circuit over the past 20 years. The Stockinghall Cheddar is a more recent addition and was selected as the ACS 2019 best in show - deservedly so! We loved it! My wife thought the Pyrénées Brebis was the top cheese, given it's smooth texture and subtle nutty flavors. I get the Shropshire Blue was the least flavorful and compelling of the four cheeses. Accoutrements included fresh, locally-sourced honey, apricot preserves, walnuts, figs, apples, and pears. For a starter cheese dish, it was a 10 out of 10. For the salads, we ordered the Caesar salad and the duck breast salad. The Caesar was the lighter (and better) of the two. For those who enjoy Caesar salads, you know that bad Caesar's have heavy and thick dressing, overpowered by garlic. Elizabeth's Caesar was anything but! The salad was perfectly balanced between the flavors of the romaine lettuce and very lightly coated with dressing, croutons, and anchovies. The duck breast salad was more unique. It's a heavier salad with figs, nuts, and a warm bacon dressing. Our waiter described it as his "favorite salad of all time." Most importantly, the main course . . . My wife selected the blackened salmon and scallops with the saffron risotto, and I choose the 8 oz locally-sourced tenderloin. The risotto had a great consistency and solid flavors, while the blackened salmon was a smidge too much. I took one bite of the scallops, and then I decided I needed to have ALL of her scallops - they were my favorite part of the meal. She rates the salmon as a 7 out of 10, could be a little more juicy and a little less flavored. The tenderloin was just fine, but perhaps my least favorite course. As forewarned by the waiter, it was a lean cut, so it, too, was t abundantly juicy. Not bad, yet I would order something else next time. Finally, the desserts: the salted caramel cake and the tuxedo cake. Both were top class! We both felt that, as a steak house, it was a $.5 out of 10; as a UP steak house, it was a 10 out of 10. read more
