We had a great stay at the Elk Point Lodge. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms because our friends had an RV at the Five Branches campground. The walk to Five Branches was short and relatively easy. The owner and staff were very friendly and made our stay enjoyable. Although the hotel rooms share a bathroom accessible from the exterior, we never had any issues accessing the restroom, which was very clean. Great value for a fun Memorial Day weekend. read more

Laramy was a great host for our horse back ride. He showed real interest in us and where we are from. He was great.

We stayed 3 nights in one of their cabins. So nice and clean! Everything you could need to cook with is in the kitchen. We cooked on the grill on the patio and used the oven inside. Can't say again how clean and organized everything was. Will definitely go back and have told all our friends they need to stay there. read more

We went on the breakfast ride on July 4th. We had an amazing time! Skies were blue and the air was crisp and clear. Lark, Pete, Lisa, and Beth were great! We accidentally got there early, but they didn't bat an eye, just invited us in for coffee and a game of pool. The ride was peaceful and we always felt safe. The landscape around Vallecito Lake is stunning! When we returned to the lodge for breakfast we were treated to a class A meal. The food was wonderful quality such as you might find at a bed and breakfast. The breakfast casserole was to die for, accompanied by tender pancakes and cinnamon rolls. Orange juice and homemade pancake syrup completed a lovely meal. We will definitely be returning, hopefully for the steak dinner ride! read more

Just spent an amazing week with family at Elk Point Lodge! With the beautiful lake views and star filled night skies the serenity of Elk Point is amazing. But there are plenty of activities for the entire family from horseback rides, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, e-bikes and fishing! The cabins themselves are charming and comfortable, nothing better than relaxing and enjoying the views or sitting by one of the numerous fire tables or pits. There is also a big lodge room with pool table, games and a big fireplace. The on site property managers Adam and Jackie are very helpful and accommodating. read more

an Elk lodge employee was outside while I was trying to locate a place to park. She was pointing so I rolled down my windows to understand what she was saying. She informed me that the highway was in the direction she was pointing so I told her I wasn't looking for the highway but thanks. As I was rolling my window back up she called me an "idiot" Completely unprofessional and inhumane. Do not stay here. read more

This was a birthday get away for me. The bestie and I booked a 3 day trip during the week, to avoid the crowds. The cabin had the basics of what we needed and the view from the front deck was amazing! The cabin was clean and well-stocked with the basic necessities . The cabin we rented had no TV and no phone which was awesome because then we didn't have that distraction from the outside . Words to the wise the water in the bathroom is temperamental and bipolar LOL but no worries we figured it out soon enough .There is surrounding National Forrest land to the side of our cabin but the campers there were quiet and we didn't notice any loudness or partying ( was a bit worried) going on. This lake is absolutely stunning and very full which made floating our kayaks amazing! We met Lark on our second day she was very kind all of the stuff that we interacted with was very professional and super helpful. There's plenty to do an amazing hikes around this area. This place is amazing... they keep this property unbelievably clean, inside and out. The fire pit, deck chairs, kayaks etc are great. The views, the quiet location. Lark and her team are incredibly kind and caring and a just good people!! This was a great choice and we will be back! read more

Lark and JR are great hosts. Awesome setting. Cabin was fine...could have used a few more basic kitchen accessories...but we managed. Website is not quite accurate. They say there is a general store with basics and fishing licenses'. Not so. We actually had to go to town...45 miles to get one, along with basic fishing supplies. Couldn't ask for more gracious hosts, but the fishing around thier portion of the lake is absolutely horrible...not there fault... But just the same. Lots of activities, decent cabins, awesome environment. Would have maybe fine 4 star with a general store...and decent fishing!! All in all, would probably stay here again. read more

This is an absolutely beautiful site--the views of the lake are breathtaking. My husband and I stayed here with an infant and a toddler, and our cabin was large enough to accommodate two pack n play cribs. Clean cabin, comfortable linens, awesome porch view, nice furniture, quiet surroundings, great amenities in the kitchen. The owners were kind and gracious, and we enjoyed our stay. These are true cabins, but I felt it was a great balance of comfort and rustic simplicity. A short drive to the few local markets/eateries. I would recommend Elk Point Lodge to anyone wanting a relaxing retreat. read more

Arrived to the lodge a little later than hoped around 7 pm for a 3 night stay at the hummingbird lodge. Enjoyed the lake for an hour then went back to the lodge to make dinner. We then noticed mouse droppings all over the counter tops,window seal and floors. We were wondering what to do since we had already experienced less than good service so far.Then all of a sudden a mouse went running by from the stove to the refrigerator. That's when we decided to inform the owner Lark. When we informed her she said well u know your in the mountains right.($230 a night with a pet) Then went on with a few more statements then said MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST LEAVE. I kindly replied this can't be the best solution and asked if they had a couple of traps and peanut butter and I would take care of it. Ms Lark replied MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST LEAVE and get a room in Durango. (10:15pm)I then did not know what to say but to leave after just over 3 hours at the lodge. The lodge had mice so they gave us one option only like it was our fault. I am a plumbing business owner and can comfortably say they do bad business. Colorado is an extremely beautiful state I would recommend spending your hard earned money and time somewhere other than the elk point lodge at vallecito lake read more

Absolutely wonderful time at Elk Point Lodge and Stables today. We did the 1 hour horseback trail ride and our guides (one female and Pete) were fantastic! Friendly and super helpful as I had not been on a horse in ages. Highly recommend their stable...trail ride through the mountainside, great way to enjoy the local area. Horses were so good...we had 2 adults and 1 child and the horses did a great job. Loved it!!! read more

My spouse and I stayed here as part of a family reunion. - Cabins are not updated/safe and need significant maintenance during stay - Grassy area is not graded or flat - Difficult for a wheelchair user or someone with limited mobility and none of the cabins are even close to ADA compliant. We were in Cabin 8. The first night, there was a gas leak from the stove (undetected by the staff even though we smelled gas right when we walked in). They turned the gas off and said it couldn't get fixed until the next night. We waited outside in the cold for a couple of hours to let the cabin air out. When we went in and used the bathroom it got clogged (there was no plunger in the room) and although we rang the doorbell 3 times, no one responded (the office closes at 8pm). We were without a toilet for the night. The next day the owner finally came to plunge it but wanted to wait until that evening for someone to fix it. We were there for a family reunion and were staying the next day at the property to visit with people. Before lunch we were informed we could not return to our cabin because they were cutting a tree down. We were told it would take 3 hours and it took 6. There was no advanced notice and we were unable to access our food or cabin and had to rely on family to feed us. The owner offered that we could switch cabins, but only for one night (we had two remaining nights). She was adamant about it and never once offered to refund us that first night. Finally some of our family intervened and she allowed us the last two nights in a different cabin. The beds are pretty old. The one in cabin 8 was significantly sagging in the middle. Other family members reported rat poop in their cabins. There are pretty views, but it wasn't worth it. (If you are looking for wheelchair accessibility, the campgrounds around the lake on National Forest do have accessible bathrooms and have flat earthen tent sites.) read more
