Stopped in here on a Friday night. Sat at the bar. Waitress was attentive. She recommended the meatball as an appetizer. The meatball was about the size of a softball, however lacked any flavor. Decided to try the new to us spot in Canal. Tucked into the shopping plaza, it is very unassuming. Walking in there is a decent sized bar, very dimly lit, with seating on both sides of the establishment. We sat at the bar. Our server was very attentive. We started with the meatball app. A huge meatball made with beef and pork topped with marinara. This was served with 2 slices of bread. The meatball was a tad dry and it lacked seasoning for me. I also could have used more tomato sauce. This dish was okay, but could have been better. Main was a Cuban sandwich. Pork, ham, cheese, pickle, and mustard. I had to search to find the pork, plenty of ham. What ruined it was the center came out cold. Perhaps more time in the oven. Our server did offer to make another, which I refused. My daughter and I met up with some friends for lunch @ Ella's a couple of weeks! We absolutely loved it! The food and the service were both great! While there is no kids menu listed on the menu, we were informed by our server that they could make cheese pizza, chicken tenders, or grilled cheese. My daughter went with the grilled cheese and fries and liked it! I had the cuban with fries and enjoyed my meal! Our friends really enjoyed their sandwiches and fries as well! While we did not order the pizza, we have heard great things about their pizza and I definitely want to go back to try the Fantastic Fungi (it sounds like one of my favorite pizzas from one of my favorite pizza spots in Florida). I definitely understand the hype around Ella's! Much happier this restaurant took over for a former pizza place. Easy to park because it's in a Kroger shopping plaza. The restaurant was fairly busy for 5:30pm on a Thursday, more than half the tables were full. We waited probably 5 minutes before someone came to seat us so potentially understaffed. I think there were only two waitresses and a bartender working. I ordered a glass of moscato which was good, I would definitely come back for a wine tasting! My friend asked if any of the cocktails on the menu could be made into mocktail, but our waitress didn't know what a mocktail was, so she just ordered sprite and grenadine. We both ordered the braised short ribs over mashed potatoes as our entree and it was delicious!! I can see why it's a favorite!! read more

We have been wanting to try this place out isince it opened in June. Our server was wonderful. She was very helpful and suggesting menu items. We got an appetizer of roasted brussels sprouts. They were absolutely amazing! We then had a smash burger. My husband had the classic Smashburger and I had portobello mushroom and Swiss. They were both so good! They come with delicious custom fries, and it was more food than either of us could eat! We used to frequent this restaurant when it was a pizza place. We are really looking back to going back again. This place is pretty new and is located in the old Grapevine Pizza. They did a nice job remodeling the inside and it looks much nicer. They have a decent beer and wine selection and the food menu had many great options. I definitely want to try the cookie board next time but we stopped in for lunch and our portions were huge. My husband got the cubano which he really liked. The chef came to apologize for forgetting to put cheese on it and he didn't even notice bc he liked it so much. They were nice enough to not only give us a discount but they also made him a whole new sandwich to go. I had the Baja chicken sandwich. It was very good and the chipotle mayo sauce that was on it made my day. Unfortunately, we were the only ones in the place during lunch on a Saturday. I believe their Yelp listing is a bit misleading. Offering 4 wines does not qualify you as a wine bar. In my opinion, this establishment is at best an upscale dive bar for Canal Winchester. Small place in a strip shopping center but it does include a pool table. Service is not what you would expect. You order everything at the bar; drinks and your food. They then bring out their finest plastic ware and napkins. Except for bringing your food out to your table and then ringing up your tab at the bar, there really isn't any service. Now for the bright side. We had 8 people and we did order different items. No one had a bad thing to say about their meal. Downside on this, there was a 20 minute gap from when the first person was served their meal until the final dinner was served. Totally unacceptable. Our group of 8 has been going out together for dinner for over 20 years trying different places in the Columbus area. This spot will not be receiving a repeat visit. read more

I think this place has real potential. Local and aesthetically pleasing. I ordered the club sandwich with the recommendation of my friend I was dining with. I was surprised it wasn't a traditional club but the chicken was very good and well flavored. The bacon (I ordered extra crispy) was not crispy but chewy...eww. The fries were excellent. The garlic aioli I dipped my fries in was very good! My one complaint was there was waaaay too much bread compared to ratio of sandwich which made it very dry and I almost chocked. I also think they should tell people when ordering this is not a traditional club sandwich. I think tweaking the bread could change this sandwich to be excellent...and provide crispy high quality bacon. The sandwich alone was $16, so I think these are reasonable requests. What a pleasant and unexpected experience. I had never heard of Ella's and thought it was a new restaurant as we received a flyer in the mail. It's been operating for a year now. Had I we not received an invite with the flyer I most likely wouldn't have gone to Ella's as it's located in the Kroger square in the south building. When we arrived I thought for sure we were going to get shabby food and probably poor service In a fluorescent light filled cafeteria. I'm glad to say I was completely wrong on all accounts. We were greeted with a smile and verbal invitation welcoming us as if old friends by the bartender. Quincy our server was very knowledgable about the menu and the drink options. She was inquisitive of how we heard of Ella's and knew it was our first time in. When asked if we received a coupon there was no disturbance in her mood or her demeanor as often comes when coupons are going to be used. She was pleasant and prompt and engaged. Generally speaking most restaurants have either great service and mediocre food or great food and sub par service. We received great service and wonderful food! We started with the oven roasted brea which I found to be a great starter. There are many wines to choose from but I am not a wine drinker and usually it's hard to find a wine bar that has a great liquor selection but they have it. My wife had the pineapple cider from the tap and of course I tasted it and it was great! The ambience is low lighting but not so low that you can't see it seemed just right. Quiet conversations were happening all around but it is not a loud obnoxious sound it felt comfortable here. They do not have a large menu which meant hopefully what they have on it they do well and the items we had were done well. I chose the lobster ravioli to my wife's surprise and she had the overnight braised short ribs. We were both correct in our choices as they were tastefully prepared with no grandiose plating or over the top flare. They were simple and delicious and if the rest of the menu is as good as the items we chose for dinner we have some return visits we are looking forward to. Thank you Ella's for the good evening out! The price point was fair for the experience and the palate. Although I had expected to pay a little more at the evening end due to the exceptional service and delicious food. My wife and decided to try this place out about a week ago and it was really good. It was kind of slow, but service was good. The interior decor was nice and well lit I like the previous pizza shop. We had the whipped feta with crostini for app and my wife had the Cubano with fries and I had the Baja Chicken club with fries. We started going there 6 months ago and the food was great, but has gone down hill a lot. The first time I ordered their pizza and the crust was homemade and now the last time it was a poor pre-made crust. On this past Saturday we went in and ordered the chicken parm, and when it came out it was just a breaded chicken patty with sauce and cheese for $22 nothing else came with it and they were out of garlic bread, the other dish was the rigatoni with vodka sauce and was supposed to come with crispy capacola which was no where to be found for $18. Service was good and the establishment was clean. However, the food left us feeling sick. The pizza was dripping in grease. And our other platers were disappointing as well. I got the Chicago Beef (roast beef) sandwich. The meat was dry and crumbly. This sandwich was paired with an au jus sauce that was super salty. The sandwich its self was already salty by itself. I tried my best to eat it but ended up leaving the second half. We debated on bringing the left over pizza home because it's was so greasy. We ultimately ended up pitching it once we got home. We've been here twice. Both times they were understaffed. There is no kids menu, despite spaghetti and chicken fingers being offered in large portions on the menu. Just in case you plan to bring the family. There is no beer list, and the servers do not know what is available - how is a person supposed to order? We had a group of ten ladies here for the first time. We were shocked to find out there are no servers, you stand at the bar waiting for the one person working to take your order. If you need a refill you go stand back at the bar. We ordered a variety of different foods some were ok, the appetizers came out with the meal as well as the burnt pizza that one of us ordered. When this guest asked who she talked to about her pizza she was told "I'll tell em"? Seriously, how about I'm sorry, can I get you something else? They did take it off her bill. Where has customer service gone? One of the guests tried to get her attention and was told to " hold on". I'm thinking, is this an April fools joke? And you will never guess where we had to go stand to pay our bill? I decided to "hold on" to my tip. Who should I have tipped? The majority of us decided it was our first and last time here. The food was just ok. We ordered a pizza and the braised short ribs. The pizza was so greasy grease dripped from the slice when you picked it up in puddles on your plate. The braised short ribs came out with i think cooked zucchini that looked like a pile of green mush. The meat wasn't as tender as it should have been. The service was not great. The waitress kept fluffing and playing with her hair. She did it when she had my plate of food in her hand. Waitressing is not what she is good at. So I wipe off all the sauce, throat off the pickles, throw off the cheese and throw it up, threw off the caramelized onions. she took a while to come back and I was hungry, so I started eating with just a plain hamburger on my bottom bun and then she comes back finally and sets this plate down with a cold piece of American cheese and untoasted bun.. hamburger was tasteless and there was no salt and pepper on the table and I wasn't gonna wait forever for him.
