I was surprised that they were open on Labor Day. I booked my appointment online, the process was simple and straightforward. I appreciate that their website has all the information you need from services to pricing - it leaves no room for surprises like at other salons. I was especially drawn to this specific salon for its quiet and lowkey vibes. I easily get overwhelmed at nail salons but this one was different- the staff was very welcoming and the salon vibes were very chill and relaxing - very inline with the Venice Beach vibe! I booked " The Works Pedicure" and it was great! I especially like the fact that they don't use harsh UV lights to dry the polish, the pedicure is air dried. I had no problem with the drying (perfect time to relax) , they also offer "Dazzle Dry" polish for an additional $10 if you do want your polish to dry faster. My pedicure looks great and my feet look refreshed. The main entrance to the salon sits on Glyndon Ave off of Venice. There is plenty of street parking in the surrounding streets. This place is super cute, thought I'd found my new spot. Make sure you're clear on the service you book as it was a bit confusing between text communication and talking to my tech. I completely forgot what I booked and was given a different price or there was a misunderstanding in our conversation. I did a $55 pedi which is just a cut and painting exfoliation and scrub. The basic is just cut and paint for $45. They are also upselling some dazzle thing. It can make it confusing vs just letting you have your experience for what you book. It was my first time there. While speaking to the lady handling payment the manager rudely kept interjecting and made sure to let me know that I was speaking to her employee. The vibes are rigid. It could have been handled a million different ways especially since it was my first time there. I was all set to set my second appointment until my interaction with her. A friendly tone would have gone a long way. Like an introduction or a simple hello my name is X. There seems to be confusion versus her hard and fast ride demeanor. The tech was nice, don't expect any frills here. It wasn't delicious especially my first time there and the tech was late not by a stretch, but...unprofessional for sure. I was open to giving another shot, but not so sure now. Geeze No apologies for their tone. I won't point out the obvious, but you can definitely guess the demographic of entitlement. Chelsea absolutely kills it every time I see her-- she's brilliant with nail art, perfects your desired shape, and my nails always last so long I feel like I need a fill because of healthy growth before I ever need a fill because of the paint. The staff is incredibly talented and professional - I have had an amazing experience with so many of the people who work there. You really can't go wrong. I had my first mani pedi in 18 months since covid 19 hit Los Angeles. I chose this place based on all the glowing reviews about the space, cleanliness, and professional staff. My fellow yelpers know the best places! Had to book quite a bit in advance, but they reconfirm before charging you a cancelation fee, so make sure you reschedule or cancel before the cut off. It's actually around the corner from the tattoo place on Venice, so park once you see the gray tattoo parlor. They use good products with some non toxic choices, unless you bring your own like I always do. I had Peg do my mani pedi and she was very conservative and gentle. When I asked for shorter nails she filed and asked if it was enough. It was short without going too far, so no pain. Nice foot and hand massage, all while wearing gloves and using good quality lotion. They had plastic divider guards up for nails and everyone wears masks. I saw them sanitize all the foot bath containers and they have touchless payment option, so good COVID-19 protocols from start to finish. This would be a nice place to go with a friend, partner, or child as a nice mini spa retreat. Not as upscale as a 5 star hotel, but not as pricey either. It's runs about $60 for a basic mani pedi and it was worth it. read more

I made an appt for a mani and pedi a week before and asked for their cancellation policy when I made the appointment as I explained very clearly I am pregnant and due any day now. They told me not to worry and that if I canceled before 12 hours I'd be fine. She even said I could just a quick text or email even if it was after hours and it would be no problem. My appointment is tomorrow afternoon and I called today just to check availability to push my appointment back 30 min because I was in the process of making a doctors appointment and was just checking what other times they had. The woman who answered, Alex, said I needed to let her know by 6 pm tonight or I'd be charged the full amount since that is when they close. I let her know when I made the appointment, they told me otherwise and said as long as it was before 12 hours it would be fine. She said that's not right and that she'd send me the cancellation policy via email. While I was on the phone with her, I pulled the policy up on their website (attached) and told her it matches what was communicated to me and she rudely said she is the manager and she'd discuss with the owner. I really thought I had already reviewed Ellie & Sass and apologize that I hadn't. I did do a review on Nextdoor.com. They are so conveniently located, such a cute salon that offers so much as far as customer service, variety of options for nails, brows, face, anti-aging. I felt lost when my nail salon went out of business during the pandemic and the owner started working out of the area. As I am aging my nails don't have the strength they used to so I have been doing gel manicures with overlay to protect my nails and make them look beautiful. Celena is absolutely wonderful, so she is my favorite tech at Ellie & Sass. Not only is she friendly and patient she is detail oriented and does a great job every time. Having said that, management and all employees seem to be really good, so you can't make a bad choice of a tech or other employee. My only concern would be the couple of steep steps inside the salon and going to the outside. I have bad knees and I am afraid of falling down. Even if I don't fall, my knees are painful and I feel a little embarrassed trying to navigate these steps. I may need to change salons as it is risky for me and I'm sure other older people or anyone with mobility challenges would find this problematic. A ramp or railing, combo, or steps that are not so steep would resolve the problem. Thank you in advance to owners for consideration of this problem. I first started going to Ellie and Sass because the have Dazzle Dry (which is the best and should be in every salon). They have a great online booking system, the salon is clean, has lovely outdoor space, and the staff are very friendly. I specifically want to call out my nail tech, Bridget. She has nursed my nails back to amazing health! We've been on a journey to get my nails longer and stronger, and she's just been amazing. She's super detailed oriented and isn't too rough on nails (often uses just a file and light remover to get gel off - never am electric file). I just came here for a mani & pedi and got 'the works' (Includes a sea salt soak, nail shaping, cuticle care, heel exfoliation, sugar scrub, and a moisturizing massage.) 'The works' service is actually pretty basic, pretty much what you would normally get anywhere else and it was $90. Overall, the place is really cute and women who did my nails were great but just be prepared that it's a bit overpriced for what it is. However, the owners probably know it's hard to find a good nail place in this area so I'll be back and next time I'll probably just save $20 and skip the scrub. Also, just double check the nail polish you pick because the one I used had been stretched out a bit and was really goopy so it's already chipping 2 days later. read more

I got a manicure and pedicure and it was just okay. I have air bubbles and streaks and I can already tell this manicure will be chipping & peeling in 2 days easily. The staff are sweet but the lady doing my manicure asked me what shape I wanted and I told her but then didn't let me check to make sure it was correct or that she understood my preference. I had to stop her and correct her cause she was already on my third nail and I could tell it wasn't what I asked for. I got one of the better pedicure packages cause I really wanted to try it and it was just a basic pedicure. I didn't have any salt scrub and the exfoliation was just the normal one every other salon gives you with the basic pedicure. Not sure why I paid $10 for a regular pedicure but again the staff were nice but I would not come back. read more

As a picky client, I like my nails at a certain length and shape. I hate when nail technicians cut too short after growing your nails for 2 weeks and you're stuck with nails that are not perfect. Gloria is literally THE BEST! I didn't have to make sure she kept the length or shape correct, she got it right the first time! It's been 8 days and my white nails are still perfect. I went in for a lash lift & brow wax. The staff member who provided those services told me I should go back to the person I'm used to. She literally told me to go back to another business because I pointed out that she waxed off more of my r/l eyebrow than I'm used to. I just moved to this area. My mom lives an hr East & that's where my prev lash person is. Why would I drive 50+mins when this location is down the street from me? I'm here to find a new place. & that was the first time somebody had severely shortened my eyebrow. I waited for it to grow back to be sure cause your staff member told me she didn't even wax that area! She was also sniffling; it seemed half-assed since she wasn't well. & her response was for me to go back to the person who did my brows. That was rude, uncalled for & unprofessional. I still tipped because I'm not one not to tip but I won't be back. Which is a shame cause I really wanted to get a pedi there. It felt like she disliked me for being there. It looked cute inside. I recently moved to Venice and needed a pedicure. I normally get my nails done in Hollywood, and figured I'd drop in here to do a quick mani/pedi to try it out since I'm new. Salon itself is a 4/5 - the space is bright and cheery, a bit small but easy to make an appointment and a communicative booking process. Pedicure was a 5/5 - the technician did a great job, and it was a treat. Manicure was a 2/5 - this kills me to write because I honestly had thought I found a new salon here. I've had months of healthy nail growth and lightly file them to keep them from getting out of hand. I used to struggle with nail growth so I finally felt they were a good length to go back to gel. I let my technician know that I liked them long and square, though she could file them back if they were uneven here and there. Instead, she took out the clippers and lopped off all of my nails, then filed them down to the nail bed. I believe this was a miscommunication, but I was shocked that she didn't ask me before going in with the clippers. Even my pedicurist asked before using the clippers, and I had told her she could go short with my toes. I'm devastated that I lost months of growth - I cannot remember the last time my nails have been this short. She apologized afterwards and like I said I think this was just a miscommunication, but I did not say I wanted them clipped all the way off to my nail bed. Once you bring the clippers out like that there's no going back. Super disappointed. read more

Edit October 31st: One of the owners, Sarah who is lovely, reached out to me after my first appointment to offer a complimentary nail fix with the dazzle dry polish (instead of regular) with a different nail tech, Jesse, who did fantastic work and was very thorough in fixing my broken cuticles! I will be giving going back to Jesse for a future manicure after giving my nails some time off. I was really happy the owner reached out to me in such a timely manner and in time for Halloween to correct the mistakes and even happier when my nails came out better than last time! It's such a cute, quiet, local spot that I want to love so I will giving it another chance! I would give 0 stars if poosible, I honestly should request a refund at this point. I had an appointment on October 24th, for the specific reason of getting my nails done in preparation for an interview that I had the next day, the 25th. I just moved back to the Mar Vista area after being away for awhile and I was looking around for a new nail place when I found Ellie and Sass. I will say the pictures online are super nice which is what originally drew me in but after my appointment I realized upon closer inspection the salon is in need of repair and some maintenance which is fine and easily overlooked if they weren't charging the high-end prices that typically accompany high-end services. My total was $126 (20% tip included) for the "works manicure" with regular polish and "all in pedicure" with dazzle dry polish which given the end result I definitely don't think was worth the price. I was missing a few services from the mani + pedi I scheduled but my nail lady was such a delight I didn't notice until after. As for the manicure I think the photos speak for themselves given that I only got my nails done 1 day ago. The day of the service, my nails smudged as soon as I put wallet back in my purse and left, I immediately texted and the nice front desk staff scheduled me right back in, not even 30min later which was great! Unfortunately upon coming back to fix a few smudges I was given a new coat and told to dry which I did, this time I stayed an additional 30min to ensure they were dry but again as soon as I left the nails smudged upon me reaching into my bag, at this point I had no time to go back for a 3rd time that day so I let it be. Unfortunately today, as you can see in the pictures most of my cuticles are destroyed and most, if not all of my nails have been chipped and the polish is lifting off one nail completely. I don't expect regular nail polish to last that long but definitely for more than 24hrs especially at the exorbitant price they charge. Please use this review as a sign to save your money and go to a local nail place, it'll be less expensive and the same if not better quality than Ellie and Sass. I wanted to love this place so much but the lackluster treatment and vibe was not it, and I wouldn't go back to pay over $100 for quality that I would find at a fist year nail tech program. read more
