I went to the emergency room with agonizing stomach pain. I was left writhing in pain for 4 hours before anything was done. They did a cat scan and said nothing was wrong with me. They pumped me with morphine and sent me home. 8 hours later the pain was back. I went to Saratoga hospital and the difference in how I was treated was like night and day. Turns out it is gall stones. The doctor and nurses at Saratoga were amazing. Kind, caring, and just wonderful. The doctor at Ellis and the nurses were none of the above. If you have an emergency stay away from Ellis hospital. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Doctors stating my grandmother was hooked up to heart monitors and machines, lies. Nurse unable to take blood multiple times. Had to go to Ellis ER at 2 am one morning because of ongoing pain and cramping in my right leg. Cramps were bad and I only got a few minutes respite between each one - they made me cry and whimper. I've never had any pain like that in my life, and I've had three children. The receptionist's attitude was cold and she acted like I was really bothering her. Her look said, "don't care if you drop dead." Checked in with her and waited an hour just to get triaged by a nurse who took my bp and said she'd try to get me in. The waiting room was absolutely filthy, I almost sat in cough syrup. About another hour later they called me in, and I noticed the same cough syrup that was on a chair in the waiting room was also spilled on the floor at the triage station, no one even bothered to wipe it up. In the meantime another patient came out who had been waiting with me, he said, "Don't bother. You have to wait another three hours in there." I went in anyway. A tech came and took another bp. No nurse. No gown to change into. No one came even when another bout with the pain made me cry. It was a room that was beyond filthy - large chunks of wallboard had been peeled off of two walls. Lots of clutter. The bathroom I went to was so dirty I can't even describe it. We waited two hours - when I finally decided to leave on the way out, I saw with my own eyes, nurses sitting around talking and doing paperwork. Really? When I told them I wanted to leave, one said "I'm sorry we are so backed up." But really, I didn't see anyone going into any rooms so if they are backed up in my opinion it was them not doing their jobs. I left. About an hour after I got home, I had a spasm that made my foot and lower leg cold and numb. I was scared of a blood clot or something life-threatening, so my husband drove me to St. Peter's which is in Albany but only about 10 minutes away from us. This hospital needs to really improve the quality of their techs in the rooms with elderly patients, much more training is needed. Older Dr's are cranky and hard to find when you are looking for them. Not very family friendly either, family is their to pick up the slack when techs dont do their job properly, shooing them away is not the answer. Hours on website are inaccurate. The website says the office is open Thursdays from 7 am to 8 pm, but when I called Thursday January 15 at 4:46 pm, I was informed the office was closed. I had already been sick for a few days, they eventually told me to come by at 7 pm, but then Information sent me to the emergency room which took way too long. This indicates lack of caring for patients' health as they are unable to put accurate hours on their website. read more

So I went to this hospital er around 1 am on Tuesday from the worse headache and throbbing ear ache i have ever had. I never had a bad experience with this hospital b4 as I have taken my wife. I figured since it's so late/early it would be quick... oh boy how quick it was. I had told the nurse that earlier that day I has a temp around 104. She measured it and it has gone down to 102.5 by then. I explained that is the ear and headache I was in for. It was so painful my wife said I was crying in my sleep... long story short the nurse was very nice she placed an iv and drew blood and shoved a plastic poker in my nose. All was good. The doctor came in for less then 5 minutes and came up with a diagnosis of ur sick... thanks a$$ hole a 5 year old can tell me that one. I preceded to tell him about the migraine he said well its normal when your sick. So I told him about my right ear. So he checked my left and left. The nurse gave me 3 Tylenol an I was released hrs later. So I took the rest of Tuesday off expecting to go back to work Wednesday. Pain had not let 1 bit. I went to my primary doc where he diagnosed an ear infection from the swelling l. He gave me antibiotics and 8m feeling better. Was that so hard Monday night crew ellis hospital. I've always gone to ellis hospital and ellis belluvue woman's hospital. The staff is professional and caring. The services are done with perfection and you are treated as a person. Caring and compassionate staff and drs. Surgeon dr. Syed excellent!!!! I love his office staff too. Having bloodwork done at ellis is great. You don't get jabbed. My blood was taken and the nurse said I was done. I never even felt the needle!!!! My kind of bloodwork!!!!! I've had numerous surgeries at ellis with high end surgeons. All great!!!!! My neurologist is at Ellis and when I went in with an eight day migraine he wasted no time getting me admitted for iv meds. I had a bed within a half hour! While there I found the staff friendly and accommodating and my two-day stay was restful and healing. Even the food was above par. My experience at Ellis Hospital was a great one. read more

I hab lab work processed by Ellis medicine. I was sent a bill for $800 because they incorrectly billed my insurance. You can NOT get ahold of the billing department. I have left them 6 voicemails over the past 2 weeks and they never return my call. Terrible. read more

Was recently brought here to the ER and Psych Ward as a mental patient. I was definitely acting a little strange but I was not suicidal as they claimed. As soon as they busted me through the door, the psychiatrist on duty's eye's lit up like a Christmas tree! OH BOY, our nightly experiment has arrived! One person stuck their dirty ungloved finger in my eye without asking, trying to dig something out. They treated me like garbage and a man with a huge smirk injected me with what I believe to be a lethal dose of Trazadone. I woke up after feeling like complete shit and still strapped by my arms. I talked to my friends soon after who informed me that I was likely defibrillated back to life. I honestly cannot believe that I was acting a little strange and that this hospital's response was to kill me and bring me back to life. 0 out of 5 stars!! Billing department is an absolute joke!! Ellis billed the wrong insurance multiple times (with months of time in between each mistake). To avoid being sent to collections, we footed the entire bill waiting for Ellis and insurance to fix all the mistakes. On top of all that, it took Ellis over 6 months to FINALLY issue a refund check to us after they received full payment from the correct insurance company. Ellis has no loyalty to their patients and it absolutely shows with their lack of customer service, attention to detail, and follow-up. I will never step foot into an Ellis facility! read more

Very inefficient emergency room late at night, it was not busy at all, and at least 5-6 nurses chatting in the nursing station and doing nothing seemingly important. I waited 3 hours in my room just to have vitals taken and I didn't get to talk to anyone at all until I finally hit my call button (which lead to 20 more mins---what if I was having a serious issue when I pushed that?) and their response was oops, we thought someone took your vitals already. This lead to another 4 hours in a room to have an ankle X-ray and see the one and ONLY doctor on the entire floor (the nurse told me that was all they had on). I cannot fathom how they can run a major emergency department so inefficiently and understaffed. I have only gone to Albany med prior to this but this time opted to go to Ellis because it is much closer to my house and very late. Never again, the two hospitals are night and day. read more

had no choice but to go here at 11pm for a lacerated hand. ended up waiting 4 hours for an x-ray and stitches. waited an extra half hour after that for the nurse to simply walk in and give us a splint for a finger. we were disrespected and threatened with discharge before seeing a doctor simply for trying to find an exit. attitudes here are absolutely terrible. do yourself a favor and try albany med first. read more

My husband called his cardiologist (Cardiology Associates) and told him he was having chest tightness. The doctor instructed us to go directly to the emergency room at Ellis. When we arrived they took him in immediately for a EKG which was ok. Then we waited about 15 minutes in the waiting room which was full and chaotic. You need to remember if you are at the front of the line in the ER you are seriously ill! Once he was brought to an exam room they did some tests that indicated he had had a heart attack. Everyone was caring and communicated to us regularly. The facility was clean and well organized. The doctor from Cardiology Associates told us they had decided to admit him to do an angioplasty. From that point on the communication between the cardiologist, the cardiac cath lab, the cardiac ward, all of the care givers, and the cardiac surgeon was seamless. All of the nurses, PAs, and technicians were so responsible, professional, and friendly. The cath procedure showed that bypass surgery was indicated. We both were scared, but everyone took time to calm our fears and answer our questions. The surgeon even called my daughter in Florida to answer all of her questions. I felt that they were caring for me as much as my husband. My husband got to meet the entire bypass team before the surgery and when I accompanied him to the prep room for his surgery, they made sure I was at ease. 5 hours later Dr. Singh called to tell me the surgery was done and there were no complications. After surgery my husband was moved to Cardiac intensive care. It is a beautiful new facility. All of the members of the intensive care team were wonderful. Many different health care specialists worked with my husband, but they were all on the same page. Within 2 days my husband was sitting and walking and on the third day he walked down and up a flight of stairs. 6 days after surgery we were back home confident that my husband will fully recover. If you have chest pains or tightness, my advice to you is go to Ellis. If you are seriously ill they will take care of you immediately. Their philosophy is that they are caring for the patient and his family. The entire hospital takes pride in the teamwork that achieves the best results for the patient. read more

Truly awful care. The only plus was that I was able to stay with my 18 year old daughter while she waited (and waited). I found out way too much about her elderly roommate though (so much for HIPAA). The staff was constantly coming in and asking her the same questions - do they not talk to one another or at least write things down? They could not figure out what was wrong with my daughter and couldn't seem to remember the medical conditions she apprised them of. Basically, after being mostly ignored for 8 hours they sent her home with tylenol (after being told AGAIN that she could not take ibuprofen) and an apology that they just didn't know what was wrong. read more

Ellis Hospital ER one of the worst places to end up. My father was taken there and he has Alzhiemers. My aunt met him there and the rest of the family was kept away. My Aunt lied to the hospital personal telling them there was nothing wrong with him. After trying several times to see him we were still kept away and given the run around. They sent both my dad and Aunt out a side door. If this is how they treat Alzhiemers patients then you do not want your loved one going here. Do not go to this hospital. If I were hit by a car outside of here and could not be taken to a real hospital I would prefer to die in the road. I would not take my dog to this place. Well i had to have surgery on may 22, 2015. The surgical staff was great. When i left the recovery rm i was put in the wrong area on the other side of the hospital. The staff that night were great. Same with the day nurse i had for saturday. The aids and the night nurse sucked. The aids were more worried about their phones than patient care. I didn't see my night nurse maybe once. I saw a pediatric nurse all Saturday night and she wasn't my nurse. The nurse i had for Sunday was so rud i want to get out of that hell hole fast. I even refused to be wheeled out of that hospital because i couldn't trust myself with any of them. I don't recommend this hospital at all. When i told the management they didn't do anything. The only person that did something was my surgeon. I never even got my discharge paperwork signed or filled out all the way. I will never ever have anything done or even go to this hospital. read more

I was born Tina Trombley in this hospital. However, after these 39 years have passed I can attest that the care here is lower than substandard. I lost my grandmother in the care of this hospital. I don't blame the physicians for that, because she was up there in age and didn't care to fight. However, my brother who I lost just 2 and 1/2 months ago died in the care of the same physician. Larry was only 36 years old. He was not new to the hospital scene but he also knew that if he spent a long period of time in this hospital it would be a death sentence. The blood infection he contracted while in this hospital was the reason he started his downhill spiral into another type of infection and ulitmately a heart attack which was the cause of death. Now I have an Uncle in his late 40s/early 50s who was treated for Salmonella poisoning, a colonoscopy was performed for a diagnosed hole in his intestine and now he has an infection that is going to his kidneys which have failed and his liver and ultimately his heart. He is awaiting word on a liver to be transplanted in attempt to rectify this situation as I write this. The incompetence of the medical physicians and the reasons for contracting these INFECTIONS causing critical afflicitions in thes young and otherwise healthy people has me concerned enough to warn off anyone else attempting to seek SERIOUS care in this facility. I have gone to this hospital a bunch of times. The hospital is gokd but the ER forget it. 2 years ago I went for severe stomach pains and I was told its just heart burn. It endes up being a gall bladder attack which I had surgery on to take care of it. So that was strike one against them. Today is strike 2 and the last strike they get with me. I took my 13 year old there 6:30 am from throwing up since 2 that morning non stop we get there check in and get called in very quickly. My 13 year old gets seen by the nurse fairly quickly. We waited 2 1/2 hours to see the doctor. My 13 year old had to have IV fluids which they gave her a half hour later. For 1 1/2 hours she got fluid which the needle in her arm was hurting her and we let the nurse know and one nurse said its a needle it hurts. After the fluid was done they unhooked the fluid bag and left the needle in and no word about what was next and she just left the room. My 13 year old is complaining her arm hurts worse and was crying which upset me and the doctor comes in and told her if she can hold down some water he will remove the needle. She drinks water and holds it down and 1 1/2 hours later someone comes in to discharge a patient in the same room as us who got there 2 hours after us. She says she will get the doctor. He comes back in about 45 mins later and says she is good to go. So we wait another hour and he comes back in and see us sitting there and says they havent gotten to you yet and I said no and he gets the discharge nurse and we get to go home. We spent 8 hours in that ER. I will not be going back there again. Also to add to this a patient who came in before I left their mother went to the desk and was told the nurse would be right with them and then when the lady turned to walk. Back to the room the lady at the desk mumbles go sit your fat a$$ down. That is another reason why I wont be going back. read more
