Marika was incredible. No doubt about it. Though I'm sure each mortgage brings its own complexity,…read morewe were moving across the country and our loan was dependent on future income as well as a variety of debt clearance. Marika helped us every step of the way, working around our complicated schedules and fighting on our behalf on a daily basis. Our underwriters were requesting an enormous amount of documentation, even ON the day our house closed, and she tirelessly advocated for us. In addition to her considerable skill, tact, and knowledge, Marika is kind, funny, and caring. Again, at least for us, our loan required a sort of "financial therapy," of sorts, that she casually provided. I deeply enjoyed talking to her. We haven't found a space in our schedules yet to meet up, but I'm really looking forward to seeing her in person and giving her a big hug of thanks.

Flagstar has been a nightmare to deal with, to get the funds out of some vague escrow account. I have spent hours trying to get this resolved to no avail. They use an online website and an terrible department in their company called the "Insurance Claims Ceneter". It is the biggest barrier to get help to get my home repaired and the contractor paid. As of the writing of this review it is still not resolved and they are still holding onto money that I need to get my home repaired and paid for, Flagstar contracts out to a third party inspection company known as Safeguard Properties that is equally as incompetent and has rotten customer service. Whenever I call it takes hours to get to someone, at Flagstar to help get problems resolved and nothing ever get done. I have tried to get help from their so-called "resolutions department" and nothing ever gets resolved. No help, no resolution, just barrier after barrier. NO one ever answers quickly and god help you if you need to get transferred to another person. The calls go into call center hell and you can never get out. Flagstar clearly does not care about its customers, anything they have to suffer thru, nor really in getting anything resolved to assist their customers getting help. No one at this bank takes responsibility for anything!! They really do not care if you are their customer, your house is in disrepair, getting anything resolved; because of their incompetence and lack of good customer support, They have a lot of customer service verbiage on their webpage about their values and care for their customers which is all lies and subterfuge. As I am writing this review, I have spent another 30 minutes waiting on hold to speak to someone regarding my problem again.. Do not use this company, run, get a mortgage loan from anyone else or you will be very, very sorry.

Thanks to John Gillis and Steve Chizmadia for bringing me out of Yelp semi-retirement to let those…read moreout there know what to expect if they are considering having ACHL handle their home loan. As a neophyte to the refinance process I was recommended to American Capital Home Loans by a friend and I dove right in to get a great deal for my home refinance completed in an expeditious manner. I was encouraged to opt for a VA loan for which I didn't know that I even qualified for since I was a reservist (as it turns out I do qualify...no thanks to them though). It was a good interest rate for the time and my financial advisor with Merrill even indicated he couldn't match the terms, so I didn't shop it around any more. Initially things were progressing after we provided the herculean amount of financial documentation required to complete a loan these days, but then we ran into the snag of questions regarding my ability to qualify for the VA loan. Nonplussed, I took it upon myself to undertake this investigation since Steve Chizmadia and the underwriting team were unable to establish what documents were actually required nor how to acquire them. Finally after expending the better part of 20 hours of my own time researching sitting on hold, faxing, emailing and speaking with the VA, Naval Personnel Records, and the ACHL underwriters, I was able to attain the Certificate of Eligibility (COE). By the way, during this entire process, I was constantly asking if this loan was going to "go bad" because of how much time it was taking. I was reassured that if we completed all necessary documentation by December 23 then we would be whole and the loan would proceed as indicated. On December 23rd I was informed that the loan was never locked and that the terms of the loan as I had understood them had changed. I was deftly handed off to John Gillis who acts in a managerial capacity for ACHL. He told me that I was "being emotional" and that he "didn't pay people to do loans"...I would never speak to my customers that way, and certainly not ones who had lost thousands of dollars based on the flummoxes of my staff. He said he would get back to me by the end of the Holiday week with options. John called me on Saturday to discuss the terms of the new deal, but refused to accept anything resembling accountability for the issue with the lack of locking, nor did he disclose what the difference between the terms of the original loan were and the one he was proposing (I know there was a difference, but he wouldn't do the math for me). He called the lack of locking and change in loan terms a communications mix up. Long story very long, I elected to go with another lender (whom I will in fairness write a review about separately and not mention here). They offered much better closing terms, the same rate, and they didn't have the baggage and ill-will that were the result of the repeated lack of customer service and undelivered promises that John Gillis and Steve Chizmadia delivered to me and my family. I do not recommend this loan provider and strongly recommend shopping around and comparing terms as a home loan is a huge commitment.

It is a rarity in today's age of "fill out an application on line and we will let you know next week" mentality.
