Deep fried curds were $7.00. These little golden fried pieces of cheese tasted like the came straight from heaven. Or a really, really good creamery. On a recent road trip, I stopped here after visiting Crystal Cave (if you haven't been you should definitely go!) There is plenty of free parking and there is an outdoor food cart that does fried cheese curds during certain days/hours. I would recommend looking ahead if you have your heart set on those! I walked up to the cart and was met with a very brash, "What do you want??" So much for midwestern nice... The cheese curds were good but sooo small. Honestly I would tell you to skip it. There are all kinds of jellies, jams, sauces, popcorn savory and sweet, pretzels and chips, New Glarus beer and liquors all sorts, fudge, cookies, and of course, cheese galore. You could swim through curds like Uncle Scrooge through his money bin. There are various size packages of standard curds, from 2 ounces to 5 pounds, plus lots of flavors. Holy dairy fest 2022! We were visiting nearby family who insisted on reliving the nostalgia of our Midwest upbringing with fried cheese curds, yummy summer ice cream cones, and the Perfume de Cow wafting to our nostrils. We walked into the large, no-frills warehouse that has an entry room with tons of local products like potato sticks, chips, mustards, crackers, etc. You walk in further to a room with refrigerators galore. SO.MANY.CHEESES. Affordable, too! Every flavor combo of the squeakiest of the squeaky cheese curds: ranch, bacon, dill pickle, pizza, cajun, buffalo...or original if you must. Bags of all sizes and very affordable. There are blocks of cheese, milk, local beers, and items like cheese cutters, keychains, and other goodies. On the far end, don't miss out on a soft serve cone or sundae! So creamy and delish. It closely rivals the famous Cruz Farms where I live in TN. The bathrooms are clean, single rooms, which are perfect for a family with young kids to pile into for a potty break. The outside has a seating area with picnic tables. This is a perfect spot to enjoy your drippy cones or fried cheese curds (and ranch, of course!) from the food stand outside, next to these tables. Stopped in here as part of the cheese curd festival. So many cheese options! Unfortunately, they didn't have the one I liked best from the festival (montamore). But you must try their soft serve you won't regret it. It is the best soft serve I have ever tasted in my entire life (and I've tasted a LOT of ice cream/soft serve). I got the Blue Goo having no idea what to expect and I was blown away. I'd imagine it wasn't just the flavor that was amazing but the quality of all their soft serves! While visiting my daughter Alexandria and her family in Hudson, we decided to take a short road trip to Ellsworth Creamery. I was craving some squeaky cheese curds, plus I like strolling through the store. Their shelves are full of cheeses that I've never even heard of. Not that I'm lacking in culture, I'm just not from Wisconsin. Word has it that Wisconsiners know their cheese, and Ellsworth sure knows theirs. We bought garlic curds (my favorite), pizza, and Taco flavors. All spot on. They do it right. There's a window in the store where you can watch the hired help package the curds. A safe, clean operation. They also sell ice cream. My granddaughters each got a cup. And, young granddaughters as they are, have eyes bigger than their stomach. But luckily, they also have a grandpa who will rescue them from wasting the creamy goodness. Resulting in their grandpa never having to worry about wasting away. I asked the oldest of the two to take a picture of me by the Ellsworth mural painted on the wall. My intent was to send the pic to my girlfriend. As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. After seeing what my granddaughter snapped, only ONE word came to mind. Nope! Though I'll probably never waste away, I definitely don't have a way with my waist! We met a couple ladies who were sitting at the table next to us. They had bought a package of cheese, but also a fairly large quantity of Spotted Cow beer. I couldn't resist it, I said " boy, you must really love cheese". They laughed, and said that they're from Minnesota, and they can't get any there. I wasn't going to go for the obvious, so I kept it clean and replied "the cheese or the beer"? There are two reasons I go to Wisconsin; beer and cheese. In a recent adventure we headed beyond just crossing the border to Hudson and drove south to the Ellsworth dairy for our cheese fix. Upon weaving your way through town you arrive at the creamery which is open and operating almost every day of the year. We timed our arrival just past 11 when the fresh cheese curds were being brought out. The retail store has plenty of parking slightly separate from the coop parking. Upon entering we were surprised with how much they had to offer. There was a whole array of Wisconsin treats in addition to the main attraction...cheese! Of course New Glarus was available with a variety of Wisconsin wines and liquors as well. Up front you could order various ice cream treats but not a wide range of lunch items and fried curds as those only appear to be available in Menominee location. You can watch the employees pack fresh curds near the front but unfortunately they don't offer tours so this is really the only peek at operations that you can see. The highlight was definitely the squeaky curds. They are $5 a lb for the fresh ones and they were FRESH! We also grabbed a few 1/4 bags of various flavored curds and a cheese end package at a hefty discount . We left with more cheese curds than any single family should have in their possession at a given time which is what we call a success! We always stock up on cheese when we hit WI and the gouda place in Thorp didn't have swiss and I thought of this place. I was surprised how far off 94 this is. Twenty minutes in we arrive to a packed house. We've never been to Ellsworth. I picked up a maple syrup cause I've never seen this brand before. Not only did they have aged swiss but lace swiss as well. They had a bunch of spreads. I got cranberry walnut which I would have loved but it's made with an orange extract, which I don't. I also got a white American cheese. They have muenster in slices that looked good but I passed on. They have cheese curds up the ying and a stand out front if you want fried. So the real mindblower was a simple chocolate cone, that was the best I ever had. Even better than my favorite cup and cone in MN. That's saying something. I was savoring every bite. We even went home via Red Wing. It was an amazing life discovery and it should be for you too. This trip ends a perfect day. read more

I tried the cheese curds they were excellent. I went inside to try their ice cream: it was so creamy that it melts on your tongue before moving back. It's Not Easy, Being Squeaky If you haven't visited the creamery after reading all its glowing reviews, I guess it must have all gone in one ear and out the udder. I could preach 'til the cows come home about how good their cheese curds are, but the only way to fully experience a squeaky, salty, milky-white curd is to visit the "Cheese Curd Capital of Wisconsin" and chomp down on some award-winning cheese yourself. You know you're eating the freshest rubbery curds from Wisconsin when they squeak so loud against your teeth that a librarian would hush you. But the loudest squeaks and best flavor only last for about 12 hours-- devour them quickly! To snag curds made the day of your visit, plan to arrive at the creamery around 11. The fresh bagged curds and samples will be sitting out at room temperature to preserve the squeak...and that's no bull! Take note that the curds should not be refrigerated at home if you plan on eating them within 48 hours, which by all means you should. There are mind-boggling varieties of natural curds to pick from like Cajun, jalapeno, ranch, chipotle, taco, and plain. You can't go wrong with any of them, but I prefer the pure taste of the plain curds, myself. They're legend-dairy! In addition to cheese curds, the creamery sells around 80 types of artisan cheeses churned out of their facility in Comstock, along with around 200 varieties of cheeses produced throughout Wisconsin. We had "grate" expectations for finding the always popular bags of cheese ends during our last visit, but they were sold out. We were not amoosed at our luck, but no use crying over spilt milk. Next time we'll just have to arrive earlier. If you're not feeling cheesy, you can instead browse the coolers for butter, milk, cheese curd brats, and take-and-bake pizzas; or the shelves for kitchen accessories, fudge, regional wines and craft beers. Last but not least, don't forget the ice cream! Choose from cones, shakes, sundaes, and Glacier Blasts (a thicker, better-tasting version of the DQ Blizzard.) I ordered the baby M&M Glacier Blast, and holy cow...it was HUGE! I'm not sure who could finish off the larger sizes. If you would normally order a mini-sized Blizzard, then you could easily share the baby Glacier. From the curds to the cones, any way you shake it, a visit to the best creamery in the Milky Whey will put you in a good mooood, the next time you're craving some dairy food! Stopped in here for some cheese curds. I've not been able to find better curds anywhere. They sell wine, beer and of course loads of cheese. I prefer the cheese spreads in a variety of flavors. My favorite is the onion and chive. We always buy several bags of fresh cheese curds. These are so good fried in a non-stick skillet. Did you know Ellsworth is the cheese curd capital of Wisconsin? I had a hidden agenda in visiting Ellsworth on my recent tour of the Great River Road, and was delighted to find the Ellsworth Creamery and Cooperative. My grandfather was a doctor who graduated from St. Olaf college and started his medical practice in this rural town of a few thousand residents. So I wanted to see it for myself, so I could have a frame of reference. This creamery was fun to visit and made me glad I had eaten a light grilled chicken sandwich for lunch. There were all kinds of cheeses to sample! Most of then were the Blaser's brand, which I assumed was a private label. They were delicious and varied and I enjoyed the taste tour. There were pizzas for purchase here, along with cheese curds so fresh they squeaked, a bevy of cheese, ice cream, sandwiches, wines and specialty crafted beers, your basic foodies' paradise. I bought a coffee mug to remember my trip and some homemade peanut butter cookies that were amazing. What a cool place to visit! So glad we found out about this place while visiting Minneapolis and spending a day in Hudson, WI. The fried cheese curds were melt in your mouth good! The store has everything you could want! So many selections of cheese curds and other cheese items, and other dairy and non-dairy products. I had to show the wife (from Cali) what true Wisconsin cheese is all about so we decided to go here, it was about an hour and a half drive from where we are staying but totally worth the drive. We went here for the cheese curds, which were made freshly and they had about six different flavors( we got the original and the jalapeño) but the steal of the day is the chipotle cheddar, we got a sample before we decided on it and it is one of the best cheeses I have ever had.
