A ridiculously cute little candy shop with ice cream. Worth the stop. Staff is friendly and goods are delicious.

I stopped into Red Wing Confectionery on a Saturday afternoon as I'm a huge chocolate lover, so this place was calling my name. There's so much to take in that I had to set a personal limit (though it's reassuring to know I can always come back... and I will!). They offer a great variety: handmade chocolates, ice cream, coffee, and candies. It's a little treasure for anyone with a sweet tooth. The sweet smell of ch plate fills the air and you can actually see stuff packaging the chocolate (near the counter). The only downside was that the staff didn't greet us when we walked in....we kind of had to initiate the interaction. But once we got talking, things were friendly enough. I left with a small stash of chocolate treats, and they were delicious. Red Wing Confectionery is definitely going to be a regular stop for me whenever I'm in town! read more

My kids pulled me in here because they saw people leaving with ice cream cones. We went in, browsed the delicious looking chocolate displays, and you can even see chocolatiers working on creating some yummy treats. We ended up getting ice cream and were happily surprised by the delicious flavors of Cedar Crest creamery. I really liked the honeycomb and graham cracker ice cream! While waiting for the Red Wing shoe store showroom to open, I popped in here and had a coffee and a "monster cookie." Coffee was good, cookie was excellent. I was gifted some chocolates and a popcorn mix. The dark chocolate was so so good! It was deeply rich with multi layered flavors. I also got a chocolate covered sea salt caramel Oreo... uhm how can you go wrong with any combination of those words?! The popcorn mix had their delicious chocolate layered in clusters with the sharp cheddar dusted popcorn. A large sized bag of kettle pop corn with white and dark chocolate was less than $6. You can't beat the prices or service ANYWHERE! This wonderful place exceeds expectations in every way. Fantastic chocolatiers who make more combinations of chocolate and fillings than anywhere I've been. Very much a California kind of experience, or at least equal or superior to St. Paul's Candyland, in a very unexpected place. The store was good before, but post-Covid they have really upped their game. The coffee and tea drinks are excellent, the Mexican Hot Chocolate is my favorite hot drink anywhere. Their ice cream is special (love the raspberry gelato) although the selection is not huge, I've blown my diet there often and never once regretted it. ;-) If Red Wing had an Art Crawl, it would be doing visitors a disservice not to put Red Wing Confectionery on the tour. I'd go there just to look a their beautiful candy artwork. My wife has more pressing reasons to visit, though. We stopped in today for their Valentines Special chocolate-covered strawberries and it was more than worth the visit. read more

An upscale treat aficionado's dream! They hit your sweet, savory, sour, fruit, umami... whatever you're into - they have it! Service is always warm and helpful, though it can get busy in there! The store is always clean and shelves are carefully arranged to perfection. You can easily find what you're looking for as everything is labeled clearly too -- which can get crazy sometimes when you have as much product as they do! Make sure to scan the shelves before you check out -- I always find I want one more thing after I have rung up my purchases, lol. This is for sure a diamond in Red Wing's downtown!! read more

Great little candy, coffee & ice cream shop on the main drag. Stopped in on small business Saturday, grabbed some toffee and white chocolate dipped Oreos. Both were delicious! Toffee had some sea salt on it, was the perfect little treat. Next time we'll try some ice cream. read more

Super cute local shop. There are plenty of things to choose from if you're looking for ice cream, chocolate, marshmallow sugary things, so it's really a kids heaven. It feels much more upscale mom and pop than most candy shops I've been to. Staff wear masks and gloves and they also have a restroom in the back of the store. It's nice because it's out of the way of where people order so people aren't staring at you walking in and out of the restroom. They were really sweet (especially for us going right before they were closing) and they seem like they're pretty much ALWAYS busy on hot days like this. They gave us a LOT of ice cream which is nice when you're looking for a bang for your buck however I did not expect it so in the future I will only be getting one scoop of ice cream rather than two because the two scoops felt like a lot. It's very likely I'll bring friends and family back here if I'm ever in Redwing since it's such a cute little spot read more

Cal and I found this lovely place just before Halloween. We were downtown and saw the front window decor delightful. We noticed that it appeared to be a coffee house. Sadly, it was closed. But it was a place that was now on our radar. :) We were downtown shopping and remembered the place we wanted to try. Now was our chance. Walking through the door we quickly discovered that this isn't just another coffee house. It's actually a confectionery that just so happens to serve awesome beverages too. The fine candies were impressive and made right there fresh in the shop. The owner was a busy bee but took the time to introduce herself. Kathy Boos is one amazing lady. She is warm and friendly. It is instantly apparent that her work is her passion. The love that goes into here fine confections is genuine. We had several candies and two large hot cocoas. We sat at a little table of our choice with the work of local artisans hanging on the walls everywhere. Absolutely lovely. The candies, hot chocolate and atmosphere was really nice. This delightful place is place that I highly recommend to anyone that likes fresh and delicious goodies. Treat yourself and stop on in. You will not be disappointed. read more

Red Wing seems to be a place that closes early. The Confectionery was one of only two businesses open on Main at 5:00pm. I got a solid dark chocolate Easter rabbit, a pair of chocolate covered Oreos (with cute sugar bunny decorations), and a few Minnesota-shaped chocolates for the folks back home. They also have a full service coffee bar so I got a breve with added caramel. Everything came to just over $15. The solid rabbit and Oreos were both delicious but the breve was weak and seemed to be missing the caramel I requested. So, come for the chocolate but maybe try a less complicated coffee drink. They have a very nice rest room as an added bonus. read more

Don't go here. Worst customer service. We went to support a small business during this pandemic and unfortunately had a terrible experience. We bought some dark chocolate mini grahams among other items. Ate one bite, looked at the package and saw it had a best buy date of TWO YEARS AGO. Went back to the shop and instead of offering us a refund or an alternative right away, we received a rude "we don't do refunds." Meanwhile, they took all the product off the shelf and five employees were looking them over in the open back kitchen. After asking for the manager and telling her that they needed to treat their customers better she offered a refund after repeatedly saying they don't offer refunds. I'm sorry for buying two year old chocolate off your shelf. Also, this store has poor COVID safety processes in place, staff aren't wearing masks while in the kitchen. The ice cream served here is Cedar Crest brand, what you can buy at the grocery store. I'm always quite disappointed when I'm visiting a town, we stop in a cute ice cream shop and learn that it's an average brand. What puts my review down the two stars is the way that the shop is handling COVID. On a busy holiday weekend, the service was very slow and the shop packed with people. It was very uncomfortable in there with no distancing or limiting people in the store. If there could have been a little speed in serving then there might have been a decent turn around. Standing in there almost shoulder to shoulder was a regret for me. There's no excuse anymore for not having good COVID signage and procedures. I'm amazed at what other places are doing to help keep customers (and employees) safe and that standard is becoming commonplace. So when this is lacking it's less understandable and will keep me away. read more

My wife and I stop in here a couple times a year whenever we are driving through Red Wing. Today on our way through town we decided to meet some friends here for a snack and coffee after lunch. When we got to the counter there was another couple with kids ordering hot chocolate and deciding on what type of ice cream to get...while the husband was deciding, the wife asked if she could get a small cup of warm water (I assume to make formula for the baby with them) and the person behind the counter said "sorry but we need to charge you for a tea" ($1.50), the wife then said "even if we are buying all this other stuff"? The lady behind the counter said "yep"; all of us behind them were shocked. This couple then walked out the door and said "we will bring our business elsewhere then"......we didn't blame them as we would have done the same thing. We were up next, I ordered a couple dishes of ice cream and a large coffee. I went to fill up the coffee from the self serve area and got a couple pumps of lukewarm medium roast before it ran out, then a couple pumps of lukewarm dark roast before that one also ran out. I had just over half a cup and I told the younger girl behind the counter that they were all out of coffee, she said she would make more and I could fill up when it was finished brewing. We sat down ate our ice cream and ten minutes later I went back up to the self serve coffee area to finish filling up. The older lady stormed up from the back and said "refills are not free, we need to charge you"...I explained that I was waiting for the coffee as my cup was only half full. Luckily the younger girl behind the counter jumped in and said it was OK. Our friends who were also with us had just finished eating their ice cream and asked for a small water as well, again the older lady jumped in and said we need to charge you .50 for that. I completely understand needing to charge for these types of things if someone is just coming in off the street and not purchasing anything.....but not for paying customers. Maybe they need to do this to stay afloat? Who knows. I always try to support local business (which is why we always stop here). I do know that providing of a cup and water (for a paying customer) is probably cheaper than permanently losing 6 customers... read more

Went here last month while hanging out with my friend's kiddo. Wanted to pick up a few things for her to take home with her as a momento treat of our short walk around town. It's a cute shop but I found the prices to be a bit on the high end. Personally I'd be content with a piece of Dove chocolate and call it a day. Her parents liked the chocolate truffles (~$4ea, ouch!) but I don't think I'll go back as it wasn't THAT good to pay that much for. I know that small confectionaries need to make $, too, but don't know how long this place would last without tourist business... read more

My husband and i stopped by here on a Friday morning to get a special treat for our kids back home. We walked in and started looking around there was 2 other people sitting at a table having coffee and 3 women behind the counter after 5 minutes of looking someone asked is there something I can help you find. After looking for that perfect "treat" I settled for 2 chocolate caramel dipped marshmallows and sea salt chocolates for my husband and myself. The woman behind the counter was honestly not very friendly I said Oh I'm getting these for my kids as a treat and at first she said nothing not even a smile then she said Oh I'm sure they will like them. I just didn't feel welcome in the candy shop which I don't like at all so with that being said yes the chocolates were good however I have had good chocolates at a lot of places with very friendly staff. read more

I come here at least once a year while we're staying at the St James hotel across the street. Service is always friendly, chocolate is always tasty, and there is a wide variety of candy items to pick from including lots of classic favorites. I also appreciate that it is open past five because I love coffee and chocolate 24/7 not just in the morning or early afternoon.
