Monster Cookie at Red Wing Confectionery
    Bruce K.

While waiting for the Red Wing shoe store showroom to open, I popped in here and had a coffee and a "monster cookie." Coffee was good, cookie was excellent. A very few tables for seating inside and definitely nowhere to set up a laptop. I enjoyed the beverage and the treat. [Review 20720 overall - 132 in Minnesota - 1702 of 2023.]

Red Wing Confectionery will give you wings! Yep you read that right, these delightful delicacies will put some pep in your step by how delicious they are! I was gifted some chocolates and a popcorn mix. The dark chocolate was so so good! It was deeply rich with multi layered flavors. I also got a chocolate covered sea salt caramel Oreo... uhm how can you go wrong with any combination of those words?! The popcorn mix had their delicious chocolate layered in clusters with the sharp cheddar dusted popcorn. Whether as a gift or a sweet indulgence, you can't go wrong with Red Wing Confectionery!

Very cute little shop with whatever sweet treat or warm beverage you want: local root beer float, scoop of ice cream, espresso drinks, chocolate, hand made caramels, and more! A large sized bag of kettle pop corn with white and dark chocolate was less than $6. You can't beat the prices or service ANYWHERE! So glad we stopped here on our quick trip to the Red Wing museum.

It's seems to be a lovely joke in the wall cafe made for its grand variety of Tea. They have other foods but I came for the Tea and the tea treats. Tea choice: Bombay Chai-hot Very good more towards the floral note than the spice chai side. Very good. Food: Scones of the day: Blueberry scones- good but feels to soft and cake like a muffin and not the crumbly scone texture I'm used to. The lemon curd side was good and the cream was very basic. Not reall clotted cream hit good enough. Cucumber Tea Sandwiches: Overall the sandwiches were fine but it's not the traditional style with Mayo or white bread. Didn't like the rye bread. Felt like it was too strong of a taste for the cucumber to shine through with its crispy refreshing taste .the rye bread masked with its slight caramel dark burnt taste. Then instead Mayo, they had a cream cheese chives on the spread, I was not a big fan since this not as traditional hence the 3 starts. Overall- a nice homey home comefort feeling of an antique home and cafe put together. Basically it's hue like someone s house turn into a cafe which interestingly makes it feel humble and small town living. Will go back for the tea but food wise- could be better.

She immediately recommended that we try Scarlet Kitchen & Bar and get the pretzel. Scarlet is located in the historic St. James Hotel in beautiful downtown Red Wing. The restaurant is large and inviting, but it was a lovely night, so we opted to sit on their patio wherever had a view of the town. Our server was attentive and friendly. Of course, we ordered Amy's Famous Pretzel, and with beer cheese and garlic butter dipping sauces, it was absolutely delicious--more like a pretzel bread. I ordered the Mississippi Pot Roast Sandwich, and that hit the spot, too. A simple Panna Cotta with a berry sauce was a light, and tasty finish to our meal. If you want a great meal, in a beautiful restaurant with attentive service, give Scarlet Kitchen & Bar a try. It will not disappoint.

It was a little warm in the sun, but otherwise great outdoor weather and provided entertainment for the kids to look at the train when it went past. Our server was pretty quick to come get our drink order and we also puts the kids order and appetizer in right away. Our specialty cocktail and mocktail drinks came out pretty quick and all were quite refreshing. For the appetizer we got the Brussels sprouts with the horseradish mustard dressing and they were a hit. We even saved the dressing to use for the fries and sandwiches we ordered for the main. The kids burgers came out shortly after the appetizer which was useful to keep them entertained. It was pretty much an adult portion size and a well cooked burger. The only issue was that it took a while longer for the adult food to come out, so the kids were all done eating by the time we got our food. We got the Scarlett Salmon, Cubano, wild Mahi, Swedish stew, and pot roast sandwich. The salmon had a nice crust to it, but unfortunately for me, that also meant it was pretty salty. The couscous, watermelon radish, and chimichurri that accompanied were all very tasty though and the chimichurri did have a good kick of spice to it. The Cubano had good flavor and the horseradish mustard was a great accompaniment. The pot roast sandwich had decent flavor but was a little dry. The Mahi was the more successful fish entree and the Swedish stew also got great reviews. For dessert we couldn't make a decision, so we got the dessert trio which was a triple chocolate fudge cake, orange blossom and raspberry cake, and passion fruit panna cotta. The chocolate cake was a little dry for me, the raspberry cake was moist with a nice summer flavor, and the Panna cotta was the standout. A perfect light option to end the meal, and it came in a pretty cup. Overall they did have decent food and portion sizes were pretty good given their higher prices. The highlights are the beautiful outdoor patio and the friendliness of the servers.

I consider myself a "obsessed foodie " so I was pleased when Cory the chef came out of the kitchen and walked around the dining room. We were having a cocktail at the bar so we waved him over to ask what he recommended . I took his advice and ordered the scallops. They were cooked perfectly. Very tender and paired really well with the roasted corn and bacon. The whipped feta was very cold, which was interesting, but the flavor was tangy so it offset the richness of the bacon and scallops. The beef tenderloin was delicious cooked perfect medium rare. The broccolini was a little tough and the blue cheese sauce could have been a little thicker. It was kind of runny. I will be back to try more items on the menu. A couple of observations: cleanliness could be improved. The booth we were seated at had many crumbs and other food particles on the seat. Flies are a bit of a pest buzzing around. I know it's not the restaurant's fault esp during the summer but consistently keeping bugs away from my meal is not an ideal indoor dining experience. For those paying via credit card, there is a 3.5% surcharge. The salmon salad was overly fishy and off-putting. Salmon shouldn't taste that way. The deep dish pizza was a nice shareable entree, full of toppings and very tasty.
