    Traditional breakfast
    Deborah K.

We stopped in Grimsby on the way to Niagara Falls because we needed to charge our electric car. We happened upon Elm Street Café Grill and decided to give their all-day breakfast a try. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our drinks order was taken right away and we were given menus. My husband ordered the Eggs Grimsby and I ordered the Traditional breakfast with bacon. The portions were a really good size and everything was very tasty. The traditional breakfast had 4 slices of bacon, 2 large eggs, lots of home fries and a side of toast. I asked for sunny-side up eggs and that's exactly what I got. The home fries were pretty good, too. The bacon was nice and crispy. My husband got his Eggs Grimsby and although he'd asked for extra-soft poached eggs, they were actually a little closer to soft-medium. Otherwise, everything was very good. The restaurant and washrooms were both very clean and everyone was very friendly. We'd definitely go back the next time we have to stop to charge our car :)

Get the eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce is amazing and you will enjoy every bite. Then you'll mop it up with toast too because the sauce is that good. The homefries were also good. The staff are also very friendly, and helped us explain the difference between the special and normal price, the special of which required a drink purchase. The end result was that after the discount on the special, we got the coffee for $1 (with unlimited refills). Unfortunately, it did take a while for the food to come. Fortunately, they have free wifi, but it needs to be accessed through a Cogeco wifi point (30 minute access x 2 per month, per email) and they're not in range of any Pokemon Gyms or Pokestops anyway! Lots of parking outside in the same plaza as Food Basics.

I've been here for breakfast a few times and it's great, more recently we went for a burger and it really pleasantly surprised me! It was cooked perfectly, and the toppings were fully loaded. Both the fries and house salad were well done and larger portions. The family diner feel always seems take a little longer but the food has never disappointed.

Located in the plaza next to Food Basics, this is a convenient place to grab a bite! We arrived around 2 pm for late brunch and lunch. The eggs Benny with smoked salmon really hit the spot! They charged an extra two $2 to substitute home fries for a garden salad. It was served with a garlic vinegarette. There clubhouse sandwich was gigantic and we shared a poutine. The poutine was salty and tasty with real curds. The food is simple but the portions are generous. It's not a place I would go out of my way to visit but convenient if you are hungry.

The place is a little hard to find; look for it in the Village Inn Centre at the far end (past the Food Basic$)

Awesome food, horrible service. If you can tolerate the slow service, you will love the food.

For drinks, my wife and I each grabbed a bottle of Rickard's. They serve it in a frosted glass which is a nice touch, but... the price was pretty wild. Paying around $9-$11 for a bottle/can felt a bit excessive. We started with the Broccoli Cheese Poppers, which we've ordered at other spots before since they're usually vegetarian-friendly (my wife is pescatarian). I thought they were really tasty, but unfortunately my wife had almost finished one before realizing there was bacon inside...and it wasn't listed on the menu. When we asked to confirm, it was pretty disappointing. She was understandably upset, especially since she's been pescatarian for over 10 years. It would've gone a long way if they at least took it off the bill, but they didn't, and that definitely hurt the overall experience. For mains, I ordered JJ's Meatloaf; really solid dish. The mashed potatoes were a highlight, veggies were cooked nicely, and everything had great flavour. Only downside was the bun that came with it got pretty soggy. My wife ordered the Grilled Fish Panini; she liked it, not amazing, but good. The fish was fresh and flaky, and the bread had a nice garlic bread vibe. Overall, it's a decent spot with good food and a nice setting, but the beer prices and the issue with the unlisted bacon definitely took away from the experience. The outdoor seating has the umbrellas. Unfortunately across the street, construction has begun on condos so water was no longer viewable between traffic. There is also a separate entrance directly from the Niagara side of the parking lot. We thoroughly enjoyed our time working through the Sunday Brunch buffet. The customized omelettes were creatively done by the Chef for up to four diners at a time while also making the fresh waffles. The waffles could be topped by whipped cream, syrup, or berry compote. If that didn't attract your taste buds then the strip bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, and home fries could. Toast was available but so was a wide table of pastries from croissants to bread pudding. Want some carrot cake it was there too. There was even roast beef and pulled pork if your not really into breakfast items. At the table we were carefully attended to for liquid refreshments ranging from coffee and tea to champagne.

About a month before our stay, I called the hotel and gave them everyone's names, asking if they could please put all of our rooms together. I was assured that they would, especially since we were all coming from out of town. One of my friends checked in a day early and even confirmed that all of our rooms were together. When I arrived, I was shocked to find out that our rooms were actually on completely different floors of the hotel. The staff at the front desk were very nice and apologetic, but unfortunately there was nothing they could do to fix the situation. It really ruined part of the experience for us because we couldn't get ready together and, when we came back later, we were constantly worried about being too loud and disturbing other guests. The whole reason we specifically asked to have our rooms together was so we could spend time together without worrying about disturbing people on different floors. Very disappointing experience, and unfortunately I won't be staying at this hotel again.
