Restaurant has a cute vintage vibe. Despite being very busy, we got seated immediately and got our food fairly quick. House made hot sauce was delicious. 3.5* One of the few times where I enjoyed the service/chill atmosphere MORE than my food. This place has been "Bookmarked" for soo long, but I've just been unable to check it out 'til recently as they close at 1pm! I think your impression on the food will vary depending on WHAT you order. Our table ordered the Hot Pork Mess, Bacon Cheeseburger, & Salmon Omelette. I didn't taste the Omelette, but the Hot Pork Mess what better than the Cheeseburger. I could tell that all the ingredients are fresh - the bun for the burger was incredibly soft - but I found my cheeseburger under seasoned and didn't like the new red potatoes as the side. I don't like new red potatoes as I find them on the starchier side, but I also found them barely roasted and also under seasoned. So next time, I'd opt for the soup instead! On the other hand, Hot Pork Mess had more flavour, BUT atop there were 2 breaded (panko?), deep fried poached eggs which sounds AH-MAZING. However, in reality, I found that they were again under seasoned. And at the already fried stage, it's too late to add salt onto this element which is a shame. On an overcast day, I found the restaurant itself a bit on the dim side. All the blind were drawn. Although it was a full-house, I didn't find it hectic or noisy, but more chill. Service was EXTREMELY friendly and warm. So I wouldn't write this place off completely, but my food was a bit on the overhyped side. Again, may depend on what you order. read more

This Diner turned our whole trip to the Falls around. We were feeling down and disappointed on how touristy the falls area was. So we hopped in to the car and found this place just up the road. We looked at the menu and couldn't wait to order. Our friendly waiter came over and told us the two specials for the day. We immediately changed what we wanted and went with those. We thoroughly enjoyed both plates once they came out. She even offered us a flight of hot sauces. We just about licked the plates clean. The food was AMAZING!! The stag also was very friendly and not pushy like other places. Seemed to know when we needed something or when to top off our coffee. Can I just say "WOW"?? Yeah, I'll go with that, because "holy f*cking sh*t" would probably be inappropriate ;) Wow wow wow. This place is a treasure, a hidden gem on the outskirts of Niagara adjacent to a gas station - yes, a gas station, and it doesn't look like much from the outside at all. The only thing that gives a hint is the little sign that says "Come on in, we're awesome!" And that's the truth. Walk in and you'll find yourself in the cutest retro diner that's colorful and cozy and smells like good cooking. And the menu is unique and wonderful - I had a hard time deciding what I wanted, but finally went with one of the specials, a perfectly cooked deep dish blackberry pancake that made my heart sing for joy with the first bite. I've never had a pancake like this before, because I usually don't order things that might be too sweet - this was sweet, but it wasn't overdone at all. My son had the quiche, and he was just as happy with his meal. I love to find these little spots that are mom and pop owned and away from the tourist traps! I'll be back for sure. read more

We came to the Diner House 29 for the first time almost 2 years ago in September. It was a Saturday morning and my husband had just picked me up from the Toronto Pearson airport. We planned on making a quick stop in St. Catharines to pick up some polish sausage from St. Joseph's bakery so figured we might as well get some breakfast, and that is when we found this hidden gem. It's in a building with a small gas station so parking is limited. It's not usually a problem though cause the restaurant itself is relatively small so there's usually enough parking. The decor is cool with old school diner style tables and chairs, and a wall of vintage Corning Ware collection. I can't remember which breakfast sandwich I got the first time but I do remember that it was delicious and I devoured the entire thing. The crispy roasted potatoes were also very good. I believe their menus change seasonally so I'm not sure if I'd be able to find it now, but obviously it was good enough that we went back there for breakfast this morning when we were in the area picking up some polish sausage again! We arrived around 10:40am and only had to wait about 10min to get a table - we made it just before the 11am cutoff when they switch over to the lunch menu. I ordered the 3 lil pigs which is maple soy pork belly on a toasted bagel bun (lighter and fluffier than a 'bagel' though - more like a brioche bun) with fried eggs, pickles, mayo, and cilantro. It was probably the most delicious sandwich I have ever had, I'm still thinking about it now! I posted about it immediately on my new IG food blog account fattiefoodieforlife because I want to share it with the world ASAP. That's how amazing it was! Anyway, both visits - my husband ordered some kind of eggs/omelette with bacon/sausage. He likes everything he's gotten so far but I have gotta say, I really didn't think I could get a sandwich like I did at a little diner in St. Catharines. It blew me away and I'm pretty sure I accidentally bit my lip as I was eating it cause I couldn't wait to get all that pork belly in MY belly. We went here based on yelp reviews and so glad we did! Amazing breakfast. The menu isn't huge so that just means what they do they do well. I had a special with an asparagus salsa, Canadian bacon potatoes hollandaise and perfectly poached-eggs. Amazing flavors. We also ordered pork hot mess. Can i just say oh my god. A fried poached egg. So delicious!! Def the best diner food I've ever had, the fried poached eggs were sooo good!! I ordered the stuffed peppers and the fave son-in-law, this thai inspired dish. The fave son-in-law was a little bland for me, but the peppers were amazing!! You could really taste the love in both the dishes though, and they were greasy at all like what you'd expect from diner food. I did curbside pickup, and that went very smoothly as well! Read the reviews and thought"why not". Some of the best places are beside a gas station/mechanic shop. Going in we thought it might not be good , so we would have coffee and leave. Upon entering, very cute and it was not that busy. Looked at the menu and some very interesting options other than your ordinary breakfast. Ordered the "Pork hot Mess", instead of the breaded eggs, just poached. OMG, wow! Such a flavour explosion and such a delight to have this dish for breakfast. It was so delicious and filling. The service was good but not over the top. Would have preferred more coffee refills but this is not enough to prevent me from returning. If you are looking for a little "different", do not judge the book by its cover. By the time we were set to leave, there were people waiting in line. I would wait also to eat here. read more

Diner has lots personality with colorful mismatched tables, chairs, plates and cups. Hubby ordered the Oklahoma Griddle Burger. The patty was juicy and the burger very tasty. Beware if you're counting calories because the buns are buttered and toasted on the griddle. Hubby's side potato wedges had crisp edges yum! They had a tasty hot (it was mild) sauce that he put on everything and even mixed it with the ketchup. I had the fish tacos. Fish was flavorful and moist. For my side. I chose the house salad with Riesling (wine) dressing. They tossed the salad in the dressing so I asked for more on the side because it was yummy. Coffee with free refills was delicious (Barclay's & Todd's gourmet coffee). Water came in glass mason jars. There was only one waitress and she did a good job attending to a full diner. Went here for a late brunch on a Sunday. Place was full. Had to wait about 10 min to get a table, not bad for a Sunday brunch. The decor and staff were fantastic. Everyone was super friendly working there. The table and chair were those cool old ones from your childhood. The food was great! I had t he use your noodle. One word: phenomenal. I don't use that adjective to describe many breakfast places, but it is apt here. If you're a "gee, I'd just like some eggs and sausage" you will find this place approachable. But if you're a "gee, I'd like a Vietnamese inspired rice bowl with fried eggs," or "melt in your mouth pulled pork, eggs, and hot sauce on a perfectly toasted bagel" this is perfect. An unassuming exterior with a funky interior; excellent service, unique but yummy food, this breakfast spot is a winner. Prices are also in the range of a decent breakfast joint.
