I'm an easy grader, so this review would've gotten five stars had it not been for the extremely unprofessional and disrespectful female (bouncer/line lady?) I encountered within two minutes of stepping foot inside Elsewhere. I mean, I guess I was half expecting it after reading the other horrible reviews on here. Right after entering and getting my ticket scanned, there was a woman just standing by the front door to the entrance, not saying anything, just death staring. I asked her where to go next, and she pointed me to the door. I walked inside and it was the venue itself. Confused, I looked around for coat check (previous reviews mentioned this place is super forceful about their coat check and I didn't want to start my night off on the wrong foot). I then noticed my friends had not come in after me. I went back outside and saw they were in the coat check line to the left of the entrance line (somehow in the dim lighting I hadn't noticed it and the previously mentioned rude woman failed to do her one job and point it out to me). I asked her why she told me to go in when coat check was outside. She literally barked at me, verbatim, "I didn't know you wanted to do coat check! Some people don't want to do coat check!" Riiiiight, but she didn't know if I DIDN'T want to do it either, which is why she should've mentioned it beforehand as an option since it's her (one) job and they kinda pay her for that. It upset me immediately that she could be so rude when I asked her a basic question that she couldn't answer with some human decency and as an employee of the facility. Anyway, she had pointed my friends to the line since they had bags which "needed" to be checked, however once inside, we saw plenty of people with backpacks on. Discrimination? Perhaps. It's 2018 and we're still dealing with this shit. The venue itself is located in the middle of nowhere, but has a lot of promise once you're inside. Spacious dance floor, great lighting, and good sound system. I went to see Kiiara perform and had an otherwise great time. I am hesitant to go back as I literally want zero interaction with such a vile person if I can avoid it. #thankyounext read more

Elsewhere - Music Venues Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Elsewhere feels like an old friend - a quality that none of those other corporate venues like Output or Terminal 5 could ever manufacture for themselves. Everytime I walk into this place I notice something new. There is a real community and DIY atmosphere which makes this venue different than others. It feels genuine. One of the things I love about Elsewhere is how it is setup as a dream-like maze with different rooms to match all your party moods. The courtyard. loft bar, art gallery, and rooftop bar - one could spend all night running into friends as they move around. Elsewhere is new and constantly improving and making this place more special. I don't get the negative reviews on here - it's a gem. read more

Its my 20th time here (cause all the good people play here) and I thought was time I left a review. My favorite thing about this spot is all the different rooms, can switch it up if you dont want to be in a big space or prefer a band or just chat with your friends in the cafe area. Elsewhere is one of my favorite venues in all of NYC to see emerging and established talent. They offer amazing programing most nights of the week in their three great performance spaces, including a rooftop with city views and a coffee shop/art space. The staff is friendly and accommodating, you hardly have to wait for a drink at any of the bars and the security is professional and attentive. read more

Elsewhere is an incredible space. They have incredible music every night from every genre, great grilled chesses and a super fun rooftop that just opened this summer. There's a bigger space that can hold around 700 people for the more popular groups and a smaller space for DJ's and dance parties that can fit around 200. I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking to have a killer night out and people who are curious about up and coming music. read more

One of my favorite venues in all of New York City. Born in the DIY roots of Williamsburg of yore, you're bound to lose yourself spending a night out at a show at Elsewhere. My favorite events there are the ones where every one of the 4 spaces are going at the same time; you can catch the sunset up on the roof, before catching some sick locals rock Zone 1, take a break in the lounge, check out some art installations in the Skybridge, and hit the headliners in the Main Hall. Definitely one of the better venues in New York. Most venues just feel like a boring box, but Elsewhere is more like a compound/maze, with a bunch of areas to explore-- you can can go from dancing in the hall, to having a quiet conversation in the loft, to getting some fresh air on the roof-- a variety you can't really get from most NYC venues. Their programming is diverse and always top notch.. chances are high your favorite artist/DJ/band is already scheduled to perform there. It's nice to see an independent venue like this can still thrive in New York without being owned by some big Bowery Presents type conglomerate. read more

I feel really bad writing this but straight up this venue sucks. Even though there are a few spaces, it's super small and hot. The service is excellent though, so I had to give stars for them. Bartenders are super kind, coat check team is great and even security is professional and efficient. But really, you go to these places for the music and the space and last night was miserable. It was so crowded you couldn't even get into the main stage space, even though I had arrived an hour early. The sound system is okay but the speakers feel like they're in the wrong places. The bathrooms are gnarly and disorganized, for example there is a restroom with two separate entrances and everyone fights over who is next because it's complete chaos. The floors are not slip resistant either, I literally saw 3 people fall down the stairs last night. I don't think I'd come back. PROTIP: leave early if you want a shot at leaving safely, the end of the shows are completely chaotic. PS. A tall boy of Pacifico is FOURTEEN DOLLARS read more

I like this place a lot. Great sound, great space, clean and nice and always good selections of music. Unfortunately, I was violently assaulted on the dance floor by a large drunk man. I am a small woman. I got security, pointed the man out, and they removed him. However, security came back to me and told me I had to leave as well, it is club policy whenever there is an incident to remove both parties. I understand this policy makes things easier on security, however it really sucks to have your night cut short by a violent drunk assaulting you out of nowhere. I do not feel safe going back to this place and that is a real shame. read more

Coming back to say that they need to turn up the subs, which they have done for the sold out terrible tech-house acts, but the more serious heads will want more subs. There's a sweet spot in the main room that shall make your bones rattle, but that's front and center with maybe 25-35 square feet of sweetness. Zone One needs more subs too. read more

Appears that this huge new venue has not yet learned how to staff and manage a large event. Waited outside for an hour plus in 11 degree weather to get into a show - that's right, literally temps that are dangerous to life and limb. Staff seemed uncaring / oblivious, there were zero updates or info provided to waiters, and no obvious reason for the wait other than slowness and disorganization by the VERY few ppl at the front of the line. I felt particularly bad for those who waited to purchase tickets only to learn that they were no longer being sold...understandable arguments at the front of the line further slowed shit down. Also seemed like they had not a few staff patrolling the floor itself, and I understand the need for safety purposes but maybe letting people IN the place in freezing temps should be a priority over policing the dance floor. Get your shit together and don't endanger your patrons unnecessarily. I won't be back. read more

Last month I've been twice to Elsewhere to see a post-punk group and a dj. My friend and I came earlier so there was no line. Both shows were great (obviously, my fav artists) - managed well; security staff, at the stage, was nice as well as the big bouncer/ID check and bartenders. I got lost in the maze of corridors but then found opening new "portals" quite funny. I've never been to the restroom but a friend told me it was really clean. The idea of a smaller room (little too small) was nice where other, less famous dj performed. To my surprise, he was even better than the main artist (it surely doesn't count for this review). Easy commute: near Wyckoff Ave, where one can eat decently. read more

Elsewhere brings community spirit to a really large scale. It's the only space in New York to see super top quality line-ups, and then get to see them in a place that doesn't feel like a totally estranged consumer experience, like the old major venues of the early 2000s - but an experience in which you're personally a part of the thrill on the ground floor, sharing the moment with the staff and organizers. Speaking of, part of why Elsewhere is so cool is because their staff are cool homies - that makes a big difference. They also dedicate a lot of their footprint to showcase emerging digital and visual artists. We're lucky to have this gem in our nightlives. read more

I liked the space, lots of places to wander around, two rooms, an upstairs area with a bar and some food options. The vibe was great, staff was cool. But the sound is NOT good (in either room). Sounded like an iPhone being played into a tin can. If this place wants to be taken seriously as a music club they have GOT to upgrade the sound system. PLEASE. If you go, just don't expect the music to sound like what you're used to. read more

Bought a 28 dollar ticket for a show in The Hall. Show started at 11. I asked the guy checking ID's about the lineup, and noticed he was hitting on the female patrons as they showed him their ID's. Left to grab a drink and came back at 12:30 to get in line, which was a half block long. Took 30 minutes to move a half a block because there was still only 1 guy checking ID's and no one was monitoring the line so a ton of kids were just cutting in front of everyone. I was appalled at how poorly the line was being taken care of and eventually went up to one of the staff and complained. After my complaint, all of the sudden the staff showed up and started doing their jobs and the line moved at a normal pace. Can't believe such an established venue has such a hard time running things smoothly on a Saturday night. On top of all of this, I recently found out that one of the investors is an accused serial rapist. Supposedly they have cut ties with that investor, but there is still a ton of controversy surrounding this venue and the vibes are BAD. There is currently an active boycott of this venue taking place by many artists & patrons. read more

I want to give a HUGE shout out to Elsewhere for putting forth a rigorous, concerted effort to uphold their mission of creating an environment where everyone is supported and respected. After I was groped in Zone One, undercover security took notice of my distress, and then respectfully asked me to detail what happened and what I wanted done about the situation. Without causing a scene or escalating the situation unnecessarily, they immediately and swiftly ejected the predator and his friend from the venue space. The security staff was profusely apologetic to me and my boyfriend, even giving us free drinks to compensate for the inconvenience the misogynist had caused. The security team runs an extremely professional, tight ship to make sure everyone is able to have a comfortable, safe, and -- most importantly -- fun experience, and I am endlessly grateful that they responded in such a way that allowed me to enjoy the rest of my night. Venue is cool and all but I would really consider hiring better staff. This was my third time there (was just there last night) and each time the staff is just so nasty for no reason. Instantly while walking through the door in zone 1, the woman checking tickets was just so nasty and was speaking as if she was trying to initiate a problem. Maybe that's just how she is, but you shouldn't be working in this industry if that's the case. The bartender on the second floor was blatantly talking trash right in front of us (not sure why, all we did was pleasantly ask for a drink, first and last). If social interaction isn't your thing, again...wrong industry. I was gonna get another drink but after hearing the attitude from her I took my business elsewhere and left. The whole point is to go to a venue for a show and have a good time, but this staff literally just kills the vibe every time. Don't think I'll be attending events here anymore. read more
