We stopped here on our way out from SPI as it was very crowded in Port Isabel and boy were we glad we did! First, you should know this is a put your name on the list if there aren't any open seats kind of place. It's a little small but I found it to be very cozy. Second, the food was absolutely delicious and you got BIG value for the cost. I had the Carne Guisada and Pazole, both of which were tasty and the servings were huge. The tortilla was bigger than my head and freshly cooked. My husband got the Huevos Divorciados and he just kept saying "this is exactly what I wanted!", my little ones got the standard breakfast and taquitos. Elva's Restaurant does have good food; however, my recent experience with service was disappointing. The owner's daughter who served us had a very unpleasant attitude. I requested regular cream packets for my coffee and was told none were available. When I went to pay my bill, I noticed a full box of the same cream packets behind the counter. When I politely questioned the inconsistency, the response was dismissive and unprofessional. As a customer, I expect honest communication and respectful service. If an item is available, it should be offered--or at the very least explained--without attitude. Good food alone doesn't make a great restaurant; customer service matters just as much. read more

It's all true. The reviews I read mentioned friendly service nearly as often as giant tortillas. Elva's delivered. Large affordable portions of delicious Mexican favorites. The breakfast selection is simple, good and the price is awesome. I loved the chips and salsa! This place is tiny but with enough tables to accommodate family. I tried the steak and eggs that consist on thin, very flavorful and dry steak with side eggs, beans and tortilla. It was very good specially topped with salsa. read more

This place is the real deal, heavily patronized by locals. I like eating at places where we are the only non-Hispanic customers. The food was tasty and came quickly. Get the flour tortilla. It's huge and good. The huevos rancheros came with bacon, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. The weird location may fool you. You'll come to a sign on the side of the road for Elva's, but there's nothing that looks like a restaurant in sight--just a multi-story apartment-like building. Look closer. This place never disappoints and has become a favorite when we are returning from SPI. Breakfast tacos are huge and are inexpensive. There's typically a wait to be seated so we call in our to go order when we are 15-20 min away and it's been ready by the time of our arrival. read more

This place you will pass by if you blink, but it's worth turning around and stopping for breakfast. Let's state the obvious, there are countless Mexicano restaurants in the area, but I cannot stress that this one rises to the top of masses. I am super picky about tortillas but they have a unique thing going on, there tortillas are fqn huge, thin and delish. In rating a restaurant on food, service, and value, Elva's is maybe the best in the SPI area. It's a bit of a drive but if you are in the Los Fresnos area you have to stop by for breakfast. The service here is great. Some of the waitresses don't speak very good English but they are all very kind & helpful and eager to please. This time I tried the menudo. They have a large bowl for $5.99 or a mini bowl for a couple of bucks. It was the best menudo I've ever had. The breakfast tacos are huge and packed full of flavorful goodies. The food here was good and so are the prices, but the tables are packed so close together that I felt like I was dining with the rest of the city . . . in my lap! This is my go to restaurant in Los Fresnos. I've never had a bad meal here. Giant homemade flour tortillas, need I say more. Delicious Mexican food for breakfast and lunch. Caldo served every other day and menudo served daily. Decently priced. It is a small place so the tables are tightly placed. The service is great, except for one of the waitresses. She(older waitress) always seems to be in a bad mood. I try to always get the same younger two because they are always nice and good at what they do.
