If you are in the mood for an authentic Mexican breakfast, stop here. If you prefer bacon and eggs, stop here. If biscuits are your thing, stop here (get it grilled). Large group? No problem! Everything we ordered came exactly as we ordered. The pancakes are excellent, too.

This local Mexican restaurant has been around for decades and it's a popular place for locals and visitors alike, since it's on the main road and on the way to South Padre Island. We decided to give it a try on a Friday since now they are open Thursday and Friday until 8p.m. instead of closing at 4p.m. I got the entomatadas plate with rice and beans and the overall flavor was pretty good. My husband got the fish plate that comes with salad and French fries. Depending on how much fish they have on any given day, they have an all you can eat fish deal. Our server Erika was friendly and helpful. Julia the owner was around and took a few minutes to talk to us. We went pretty early, 4p.m., so there weren't that many people there but as we were leaving, more people were starting to come in. The atmosphere is somewhat quiet and everything looked clean. Too bad they don't currently have a liquor license and they ran out of flan, which I wanted to try.

Wow, a lot on the menu!

We stopped in for a quick meal of flautas, refried beans, rice, nachos and salad. It all tasted good and fresh. Te restrooms were super clean, both men's and women's! Since it was 8:30pm or so when we stopped in, some of the lights had been turned off. But the woman working the counter had the lights turned on for our safety when we asked to use them. Nice! The front section facing the main road is set up like an old fashioned diner in red and white upholstery and ice cream signs up: Blue Bell! There are other cakes to choose from that are displayed on a turning fridge. The back is set up like a restaurant and now the menu made sense! We will stop here again on our way to or from the island!

Chicken enmolada lunch special. Yummy!!!

The atmosphere was fantastic, especially with the ocean breeze coming through. We ordered the steamed mussels, the grilled red snapper sandwich, and the grilled red snapper entrée. Our favorite dish was the red snapper sandwich. It tasted fresh and had more of a homestyle feel rather than something overly polished from a professional kitchen, which we really appreciated. Honestly, everything tasted fresh, comforting, and well prepared. The service was also incredible throughout the night. The only slight issue we had was spotting a cockroach crawl from under one of the chairs when we pulled it out. However, considering the restaurant is basically right on the beach and outdoors, insects are somewhat expected, and it honestly didn't take away from the experience for us. Overall, great atmosphere, great food, and a really enjoyable dinner spot in South Padre.

It's not upscale, comfortably casual, pleasant enough for beach front dining à la fresco, but the quality of our food was frankly disappointing. Coconut shrimp cooked too long, grilled flounder definitely over cooked, dry and poorly seasoned. Trimming for baked potatoes comes on the side in little plastic containers. Really? Seafood Bisque was thick like a soft pudding and had a really funky taste. How can you screw up Spinach Dip? Overall, a very disappointing experience for a$120 tab. Service was ok, but I cannot recommend this spot for dinner. Please do better.

I went to Ola Seaside Grill based on the positive yelp reviews. i was disappointed…read more For those not familiar with this restaurant, it's more of a bar inside the Sand Rose beach resort that happens to offer food for those coming off the beach rather than a place to have a decent sit down meal. We stopped by on a Friday afternoon and the place was empty except for all the flys swarming around the tables and the lone bartender watching the FIFA soccer game. He attended to us politely. We ordered a frozen margarita which was cold but weak on flavor and alcohol. The food ( Penne Alfredo with chicken) came out soon after ordering but it was made up of a flavorless sauce and subpar rubbery grilled chicken which did. It improve despite adding salt and pepper to season it up. Really tased like a cheap microwaved frozen entree. Unfortunately, I ended up just tossing most of it in be trash. I really wanted to like this place but just couldn't since I spent so much energy swatting away the flies from our table while trying to eat. I added a picture from their online menu comparing it with what I received at my table. The portion was generous but the food quality was terrible. Usually I'll give a place a few tries and try a few different dishes before writing them off but I won't be going back to this place.
