This happened because my son fell on the third floor and accidentally hit the spot where the second-floor fire sprinkler was located. I knew nothing about this kind of thing and was really worried that water would start spraying out immediately! I quickly reached out on Yelp to several licensed fire protection service providers, hoping someone could help reinstall it as soon as possible. Leon from Central Fire Protection & Services was the fastest to respond--within ten minutes! I asked Leon if he could come quickly to help me replace and install it because I had to go out the next day. Leon asked me to send him photos and a short video. After reviewing them, he reassured me that there was no need to worry, that it wasn't a big problem, and told me to just contact him again after I got home. When we returned from our trip, I contacted Leon right away. Leon patiently and thoroughly guided me online on how to choose the correct new cover plate, how to purchase it, and explained that once I received the parts, I could actually install it myself. Even after receiving the new part, I still insisted on having Leon come install it, since I'm not a professional. But Leon kindly and carefully walked me through the installation step by step. Finally, with Leon's help, I successfully installed the new cover plate! I was so happy--not just because Leon provided all this guidance for free and never tried to take advantage of me, but also because through Leon, I learned something new myself. Now, with immense gratitude, I'm writing this review to give Leon the highest praise for his professionalism, honesty, dedication, and his willingness to go above and beyond. I recommend Leon to all my friends. I myself work in professional consulting, and Leon's values completely align with mine: not putting profit first, but putting truly helping others first! It's because of people like Leon that our world becomes a better place. (Oh, and even when I insisted that Leon give me a quote earlier, the service price he offered was extremely reasonable.) Thank you, Leon!

Zero stars. I was a customer. Wanted to cancel and the owner Chris gave me a hard time. Asked me to…read moreupgrade my equipment instead. I did not want to. Honestly, I was tired of being charged $30/month for monitoring which is HIGH!!! My alarm came with my house that i bought over 20 yrs ago. It was put in when the house was built in the late 80s. Everything hard wired inside the walls. It works perfectly fine unmonitored. Because I wanted to cancel he said he wanted all the equipment back which consisted of the motherboard and keypads. WTF?!?!? He said I signed a contract that it was their property when I signed on with them. The previous alarm company I was with sold the accounts or gave the accounts to Redwood City Alarm. So I had to go with them. Had I known all this was going to happen, I would have NEVER signed on with them!! I paid for all the equipment from the previous alarm company I was with. Sure enough, the contract did say that. The equipment is over 20 yrs old!!! Why would you want it?????! I called 5 random local alarm companies and pretended to inquire about signing on with them and what the cancelling procedure was. Not of the companies wanted the equipment back. It just goes to show that Chris is a crook!! I questioned him about the equipment being old and he said it was good for spare parts........would you want an alarm company like Redwood City Alarms to put a used keypad or motherboard in your home? And really Chris? There's more of a profit to replace the item with a new one. I've been your line of work before. We sell the customer a new product if something like a keypad breaks or the motherboard is fried. So beware of this company!!!!! Crooks....... And you can find other companies way cheaper than $30 a month to monitor your home and you don't even have to sign a contract to give back equipment that you paid for to be installed!!

I had a leaky sprinkler head (a slow drip) in the hallway not long ago and I hoped to find someone within a day or two so I could avoid turning off the main water to the house. For the record, I did not use Tim Chafee's Fire Protection Service because he does not do this type of work. However I'm giving him 5 stars because he took my call and he was very helpful and very nice. He gave me some good leads about where I could call for help. I'm posting this information in hopes it will help others in my area. I spent a ton of time making calls. I ended up calling the company who installed the sprinkler system in my house: Advanced Automatic Sprinkler, San Ramon, CA - My house is 20 years old so it is not under warranty any more. They quoted me $85 per hour with a 4 hour minimum. They have a repair technician based right here on the Peninsula! He came over just a few hours after I called thank goodness. Prior to calling them I called ALL the local fire sprinkler repair and fire protection numbers that I found on Yelp thinking I could find someone closer to Redwood City: Western States Fire Protection - They did not return my call. JR Wagner - They also did not call back. It looks like they only work in the east bay so they didn't return my call from Redwood City. Control Fire - Returned my call and the owner left a very nice message. Unfortunately they had no time to do a repair job for several days. I think they focus more on design and new installations rather than repairs. My Local Plumber - They are not licensed to do this work and are not allowed to work on indoor residential fire sprinklers. You need to have a special license. The plumber recommended calling the local fire department because they should have referrals. Fire Protection Services of Burlingame - They also don't do this type of work but the nice gentleman gave me leads and told me to look in the old fashioned yellow pages too. AAA Fire Protection Services - Peninsula based - He specializes in this work but he is expensive. He quoted me $750.00 plus materials for emergency service. I asked him what if he came sometime the next business day but he said it's still $750. (I only have one leaky sprinkler head, a slow drip and I put a bucket under it so I explained it's not super urgent and it could wait a day, but he said the price is the same. I decided to keep checking around.) Lund Pearson McLaughlin - They do not do this type of residential work because they don't deal with plastic pipes which most home fire sprinkler systems are made of. There are also a couple others in the yellow pages that I did not get to. There is another east bay company that does this kind of work. They are called Transbay Fire Protection, Inc. in Pleasanton. I didn't call them but they installed the fire sprinkler system at my neighbor's house and may have a repair technician. Other things I learned: - If the leak is really bad, you should turn off the main water of your house to prevent damage to your floors. The main water shut off is usually around the front of your house. It is not possible to shut off only the water to the sprinkler system. That is illegal for some unfortunate reason. You will need to shut off the entire house water until a technician comes out. - If you want the pressure out of the sprinkler system so the leak stops immediately after you turn off the main water, turn the handle at the sprinkler pressure gauge, usually in your garage, to open and drain. (However, once you turn off the main water there is less pressure anyway, so you may not need to do this.) If you want to, the handle should be turned to match parallel with the pipe. When the technician showed me, all the old water from the sprinklers drained our of a separate pipe near our main water shut off. I never knew what that pipe was for. Some of the water was rusty so the water was sitting in the sprinkler pipes for years. - The alarm to the fire sprinkler system will not sound if you turn off the water or release the pressure from the sprinkler system. I was worried about the alarm going off and waking my neighbors. No, don't worry about that. The alarm only makes sound if water is flowing into the house through the fire sprinklers and if it does not stop. That means there might be a fire in one of the rooms in the house, or a major leak. - Not all of the sprinklers in the house will turn on if there is a fire. Only individual sprinklers turn on where it senses fire. The fire sprinkler heads in my house were manufactured by a company called Central. Those sprinkler heads were recalled and the company is no longer in business. They were the white model with 3 small disks that stuck out in the center. I was told that the brass threads in them go bad. He installed a new sprinkler with a flat cover made by Tyco. It looks nicer. Hope that helps!

Yes, you did lower the price after seeing that my system only had two sprinklers. But then you…read morecharged me double that amount to replace those same two sprinklers heads and screw in two new ones. You're calling that "emergency repairs"? Again, you told me it was required for compliance -- which is misleading. As I tried to explain to you over the phone, my insurance requirements state that a qualified individual or company must inspect the automatic sprinkler system at least annually, and in accordance with local Fire Marshal requirements, to ensure the integrity of the system. That's it -- no mention of spare parts or emergency repairs for a two-sprinkler system. From what I understand, San Francisco follows NFPA 13 and NFPA 25, which require a spare sprinkler head box only when a system has more than 20 or up to 300 heads, depending on the standard. For systems under 300 heads, the requirement is typically a minimum of six spare heads -- and none of that applies to a system with just two sprinklers. I'm really disappointed that you tried to spin it this way and push unnecessary charges by misrepresenting what's actually required.
