EM Spa is hit or miss depending on who your technician is. I've gotten both gel and regular pedicures here, and for my hands I switch between nail enhancements and gel manicures. All the techs are nice (but sometimes do what they think is best) I got a regular manicure and pedicure during my most recent visit and it made me realize the lack of care and attention many nail techs give nail lacquers. The chipping was absolutely horrible (should be chip-free for a few days with proper maintenance) and the skin around my cuticles have been peeling like crazy. read more

If I can give it zero stars I would. I am so disgusted and disappointed. I've been going to this place since April and haven't had any problems last few times however that has changed. First on I got fungus on my big toe and my nail feel and everything. I literally just went really quick today for a fill in; I'm a new mom and rarely have time to do anything. I requested a certain design and the man doing my nails said it wouldn't look good. I said okay and requested a different design. He didn't look confident so I requested chrome and he said they didn't have the color. I asked TWICE to see the chrome they have and he IGNORED me. I let a few minutes pass then I asked if they had red chrome. He says no, doesn't show me what they have and then says I'm just going to do regular red on your nails. I hate how they came out - I asked for the coffin nail share and this is clearly not that. I just paid $50 for what I didn't ask for. AGAIN as a new mom I do not have time to do anything for myself so when I do have time I want to walk out of a place with a service I actually asked for. I am never coming back here. read more

I've been hunting for a new salon since my former nail tech moved to a salon in Virginia. I came here for an almond shaped full set with design. Tom was my nail tech and my appointment started right on time which was really appreciated, I hate waiting. My acrylics came out really nice with the perfect shape and not too thick and I really appreciated how attentive to detail he was. They have a great polish selection which I really liked, and the space is clean and comfortable. So happy with how my nails came out! I would ask about the fees before you decide what you want. They charge additional fees for more than one color, for any shape other than square, and nail design per nail. I'm not used to being charged for colors so was surprised about that one, but it wasn't too excessive so I'll come back and just ask for a price quote before I sit down. read more

I've been coming here since Thanksgiving and I tried to overlook the sub-par quality because the service is good but today was the last straw. I'm already in there to get my nail fixed because it broke less than a week after I got them done, and of course a white woman walks in WITHOUT A MASK ON and the manager says nothing but "pick a color and have a seat." To make matters worse, this woman comes well within 6 feet of me to hang her coat as if she couldn't put the coat ANYWHERE ELSE in the salon. I am livid and will never be returning to this establishment. I'm disappointed and expect better during a pandemic. read more

I recently moved back to DC after living in northern CA for the last 6 years. I was excited there was a nail salon that I could walk to from our house. Unfortunately it looks like I'm a one and done with this salon. First in the midst of my hot stone massage, the nail tech got up TWICE to hug some elderly clientele that hadn't been in in awhile. I'm not sure why this couldn't have waited (she did the nails of the one woman after me). No apologies, no extra time either. It was as I wasn't as important as the retuning customer (note... I have two elementary aged daughters who love pedicures so that's three clients lost) I don't recall seeing her ever put a top coat on (see pics for reasons), then she told me to sit there 15 or 20 minutes. I'm used to fans. I've been getting pedicures for years - 15 yrs in DC prior to our 6 years in CA) and have always had a fan but none here. After 20+ minutes I pulled my own pant legs down and took off the toes spacers. She rushes over and shoved my feet into my shoes. I'm used to nail salons trying not to mess up the polish. As you can see in my pic I have not taken my shoes off yet but this is SO not worth the $65 I paid. Stay away if you are a new customer. read more

I walked in today with my two nieces. It costs $125 for my nieces nails and they told me that it included her eye brows. I paid and left and she was there for two hours later and she didn't get her eyebrows done because they said I didn't pay for it. I guess I needed to stay there and supervise. read more

I called last minute and a very polite lady gave me an appointment. Good impression so far. When I arrived I chose from a decent selection of polishes. There is a larger selection of gels. My technician, Mai, was efficient and did a great job with very little chit chat which I prefer. Massage chairs are fantastic and so relaxing while watching beautiful videos of Vietnam on the large flat screen TVs. I will definitely return. The shop is extremely clean and well-fitted for COVID precautions with hand sanitizer at every station, socially distanced nail stations, mandatory masks, and plexiglass barriers between guest & technician. I have been searching for a local salon that I love and have found it here. Mina, the owner, is so friendly and appreciative of her customers. There are also a number of lovely perks: the salon has a customer loyalty program in which return customers can earn points for discounts on their nail services; they serve wine or champagne; if you get a full set, you get free nail art or designs; they do not charge for nail removal; their standard is gel powder; not to mention they are open until 9:00 which is awesome on nights I can't break away from work until late. On top of this, their prices are extremely competitive and the quality is second to none. The whole staff here is excellent -- a small but very professional crew up to date on the latest techniques and trends. Beyond nails and waxing, this salon also offers lash services. Mina has a variety of options and can make your lashes look as swanky or natural as you are looking for. As consumers, we certainly have a choice where to spend our money, but this woman-owned small business is one I am thrilled to support, and during this terrible pandemic, a visit to EM Nails & Lash is a cost-effective luxury that I can justify due to their adherence to health standards and mitigating risks.
