I was passing by on Cinco de Mayo around lunch time and decided to pop in. I had been waiting for…read morethe renovations to finish so I was pretty excited. Sadly, just like the rest of the recent reviews I was quite disappointed by what I encountered. Everyone working was super friendly and attentive which was nice but I didn't recognize anyone working there. I didn't pay much attention to that but when the menu came it was greatly reduced and trying to be more "upscale". it felt odd as the main draw of Valencia for lunch was that it was fast, casual, affordable and delicious. I usually get the lunch combo that came with an aerpa, empanada, rice beans and ceviche but that wasn't on the menu that I saw. I ordered the street corn to start and got the bowl with a pernil arepa. The bowl was a large portion and everything was fresh. Taste wise things were pretty good but didn't blow me away. The pernil was only ok and that should have been the star of the show. I had to ask for aji and I was only given a small dish with some hot sauce as well. In the past your server would just hand over a bottle of aji and let you go to town. The food was decent, but not close to what I remember. The biggest let down was when the check came. I know things are expensive all over but lunch was $41 for some street corn, a jeujed up chipotle bowl and a coke. That seems wild. There was also a charge added for the kitchen which I get but it still feels odd to see additional service charges on an already expensive meal. As far as the renovations go it honestly didn't really seem like anything changed inside, maybe some fresh paint and tile? Unfortunately I will probably not return any time soon or even at all.

Every time I wanted to eat empanadas, I had to bake my own, and I usually prepare only one flavor because it is a lot of work... Back home, I was used to order empanadas of many different flavors and get them delivered whenever I had guests or I didn't want to cook. I was so happy when last year I found out about Jackie's Empanadas On the Go! I immediately placed an order and went to pick up my empanadas from their kitchen in Stamford (not a front store). I ordered frozen empanadas to stock up my freezer. They came with baking instructions and they came out perfect! I loved her empanadas but driving almost 1 hour from New Haven is not something I can do often. Last week, planning for Thanksgiving dinner, we decided to order empanadas again. I ordered online and I contacted Jackie to arrange pick up and luckily she was going to be in a holiday market in Westport that weekend, so she offered me to pick up there, saving me some driving time. We ordered Mushroom, Caprese, Ham & Cheese, Beef Malbec and Knife-Cut Steak. They were all a success! Our guests loved them! Also, when I went to pick up the empanadas, I bought a box of Alfajores de maicena (cornstarch cookie sandwich filled with dulce de leche) and a box of Medialunas (Argentinian croissants). They were absolutely delicious!!!! I wish I lived closer to order more often, but I will definitely order food from Jackie's again!

We were not starving, but needed a little something, so we yordered a beef empanada, a cheese empanada, and a Reina Pepeada - which was *more* than enough for the two of us -- but reheated perfectly in our air fryer the next day for a second meal. (In full fairness, we do not eat tons at a time, but even their appetizers are very plentiful.) It is a lovely place and while we cannot regularly afford it, it is definitely on our special date night list and somewhere we consider special to our relationship -- especially as, he is Mexican and Irish and I am Irish/Welsh and Syrian, so we were asking about the food and what we might like, and two different staff members were happy to recommend -- and also keep in mind I am allergic to seafood. Muy bueno.

I also did the shredded beef and plantain and beans grilled. Steak and cheese arepa was the star, so crispy, juicy steak, cheese seared. I could eat it dinner every time. The other arepa was decent, it just had the mistake of going second, shredded beef felt slightly dry. It was al little pricier than expected, the steak was 14 and the shredded beef was 11. Will be back to try other dishes!

I dont understand why they would charge for replacement tortillas in the first place. When we went to pay, i told them it wasn't right that they were charging for the plate since i couldn't finish eating my food that was cold(eggs and beans), my plantains raw and i left the replacement tortillas which actually came out steaming which is how the first ones should've came out to. The owner just stood there and disnt step in and just looked around and stayed quiet and the waitress didn't bother to get him involved even though he heard everything. This is the 3rd time I've had mishaps but things usually work out and I'm able to eat my food but this time it was not edible and i was disappointed in how everything was handled and the fact that the owner didn't bother to step in and i left very upset that i couldn't eat my breakfast properly. By the time they heat uo the eggs and beans, the tortillas would've gotten cold. Oh and the chorizo was not freshly hot either but it was edible, it was the only thing from the breakfast plate i was able to eat. My mom tried to eat one of the sweet plantains but it was just too raw and she couldn't finish it. Very disappointing. And since i wasn't planning on leaving a review i did mot take a picture of the plate nor the blue fuzz that they claimed was from a "clean rag". In the end, we ended up having to pay for a plate that was 2/3 left. My moms plate was fine but was not hot.

The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and really informative. They're happy to walk you through the menu and make recommendations based on what you like. It's also surprisingly vegetarian- and vegan-friendly, they offer vegan meats so you can swap them into a lot of the classic dishes, which is rare for a taqueria. The food is outstanding. Even the free chips and salsa they start you with are memorable: the chips are fresh and super crunchy, and the salsa has real depth of flavor, not just heat. The entrées are some of the best value around, the burritos are massive (one could easily feed two or three people), and for takeout, the quesadillas literally come in a pizza box, which tells you everything you need to know about portion size. Their appetizers, queso, and house-made hot sauce are all excellent and full of flavor, not just spice. Most times I've been, the service has been fast, even when they're busy. The interior is clean, colorful, and decorated with authentic touches, so it feels fun and relaxed whether you're dining in or just grabbing takeout. If you're searching for great Mexican food in Norwalk, big portions, vegetarian/vegan options, and friendly service, Rincon Taqueria is easily one of the best spots around. Highly recommend.
