It was fantastic, and Anita is a lovely host and preparer of the biscuit and coffee. Please take a moment and come and enjoy a simple, but excellent breakfast. The food was delicious, the service was extremely friendly, and the restaurant was clean and organized. My friends and I all got something different. The garlic naan was great, we ordered another basket. The lamb kolhapuri was the winner for the table. The chicken curry was well cooked and everything so flavorful. The server Miss Anita was very attentive, funny, and friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The table settings were great for sharing. The constructive feedback is the samosos were a little plain, butter chicken was basic, and that everything wasn't spicy enough. So just really emphasis what kind of spice you want, I think they thought we couldn't handle it lol. But 4 stars for quick service and flavorful curries to share. read more

Passed by this spot on canal and decided to give it a try. Inside there were only one couple in there and I believe this place should have been busier especially on a weekend. Nice bar and great food! Clean and nice waitress. The only thing I would say is they it was a bit hot inside the restaurant but that didn't take away from the service or foods I would most definitely go again and I recommend you giving it a try. read more

I was home alone for the first time in a long time so I decided I was going to order a ton of food and watch all the reality tv I could! I ordered through the Yelp app and hurried to pick up my food. Everything was well packaged and waiting for me. I got the chili gobi which is battered and fried cauliflower stir fried with onions and peppers in a spicy sauce. It was delicious and spicy but not overwhelming. The vegetable pakora were good but I was wanting a dipping sauce (I think the mint chutney would pair well). The chicken vindaloo stole the show! The garlic naan I ordered and the basmati rice were so good! The vindaloo was spicy and flavorful. I can't wait to go back and try some of the dishes I didn't order. read more

Ember Indian Restaurant: A Smokin' Hot Addition to Lakeview Some nights call for celebration, and when that call comes, my husband and I answer--with dinner. Lucky for us, a new Indian spot opened up just a short walk from our new home, and if there's anything better than good food, it's good food that doesn't require parking logistics. Enter Ember Indian, a true neighborhood gem. The patio is inviting, the staff is warm (and actually remembers me, which I choose to take as a compliment and not a sign that I dine out too much), and the menu? Well, let's just say Aroma used to be our favorite Indian restaurant in New Orleans, but there's a new smell in town... and it's Ember. But a cozy patio and friendly faces don't mean squat if the food isn't good. Luckily, the food is VERY good. We kicked things off with a glass of old vine Zinfandel for a mere $10 each--bold, smooth, and generously poured (no stingy pours here, folks). It paired perfectly with our appetizers: Vegetable Samosa with Mint Chutney - Crisp, golden pastry filled with a perfectly spiced mix of potato and peas. The mint chutney was the ideal cooling counterpart to the heat. Classic, done right. Chili Gobi - Cauliflower, but make it crave-worthy. Lightly battered, chili-spiced, and cooked to that magical balance of crispy-outside, tender-inside. Bonus: the portion size was impressive, making it perfect for sharing...or for claiming entirely as your own (no judgment). For mains, we went with: Chicken Tikka Masala - This was some of the best I've ever had. Rich, spicy, thick, and indulgently creamy--because guess what? They didn't skimp on the cream (as some places dare to do). The chicken was fall-apart tender, making each bite a warm, comforting hug. Shrimp Pepper Fry - A bold, peppery stir-fry that packed a flavorful punch. While the sauce was fantastic, I found the shrimp just slightly overcooked. Next time, I might try this dish with chicken or lamb because that sauce deserves a perfect protein match. Oh, and let's talk Garlic Naan. This wasn't just garlic naan. This was transcendent garlic naan. My breath may have suffered, but my taste buds thrived. Dessert? Not a chance. We had already surrendered, waving the white flag with leftovers in tow. I always enjoy a well repurposed gas station. This one is located on Canal Blvd (near that train trestle that always floods). The vibe is fresh, clean and modern. The food was wonderfully flavorful. We had the chicken Tikka Masala and Aloo Gobi. Both dishes were full of flavor and served with perfectly cooked fluffy rice. We will definitely be back to try more from the menu. Be aware that the parking is minimal and a bit wonky. If I live closer I would absolutely walk. read more

Passed by for lunch, no cars in parking lot, wondered if it was open. Parked on side. First door was open but that was the kitchen entrance. Few guys looked at me and I said hey, they didn't say a word, must have been deaf or just rude? Walked in acrual entrance and surprised the older lady waitress. She was ok. No mango lasses on the menu though? Strike 1. Order some samosa chat and 2 chicken dishes. It took a long time and we were the only ones there. Sat and listened to the 90s music they had playing while the kitchen staff argued. Sometimes they would come out of the kitchen, walk by and just stare, weird fellows. Like 5 of them or so. Food came 30 minutes later. Chicken curry was greasy and over seasoned. Pretty salty. Strike 2. Butter chicken sause tasted like it came from a jar and the chicken was cut into French fry like pieces. Strike 3. Waitress was ok, kitchen was arguing or making faces at us the whole time. Food was basic slop but they had a full bar...so you could get drunk there and maybe the food wouldn't taste so bad? Idk. Overall opinion: skip it. It's like mall Indian food except overpriced. Go to aroma for Indian. Faster and better butter chicken and naan. I thought the other reviews seemed a little manufactured. Now I'm more certain they're fake. read more

Delicious Indian food. The menu is extensive and includes many vegetarian options. Everything was served piping hot from the oven and spiced to perfection. Perfect portion sizes. I wanted to like this place so much -- it's close to my house, had great reviews, and I love Indian food -- but this is the La Croix of Indian food, where the flavor is so diluted you barely recognize it. The funny thing is that it smells phenomenal when you walk in, so I'm not sure what happens to the flavor when it's time for making the meal. A much needed neighborhood restaraunt that is affordable compared to the likes of Harrison Ave food places. I have tried both lamb dishes and tomato based curries from this place and both have been flavorful, spicy, and well designed. I hope they upgrade their flatware/settings soon! I had lunch today at Ember. Our waitress was extremely helpful in explaining how spicy our dishes would be and also what she would recommend based on her experience. The food was delicious. The Butter Chicken? Yum! The Shrimp Briyani and chili mushrooms: spicy but good flavor! We were seated outside because it was such a beautiful day in early February. Inside the restaurant, there were a couple of customers seated eating their lunch. There's a full bar and you can be seated at the bar in case the tables are full or whenever. Anita, the former Barista for Lakeview Brew was running the front of the house at this newly opened Indian restaurant in Lakeview. That alone garners 5 stars! It's great to see neighborhood staples and active community members still involved at this location. The food and service were also great. W happened to stumble in on a cold quiet night so the butter chicken and hot pepper stir fry shrimp were just what we needed to warm up. The garlic naan and Manchurian gobi were both also good. The naan could have used just a hint of salt and the cauliflower cooked a bit longer so that the batter stayed on. If they don't tweak anything , we will be back to try different dishes and are excited about it. The service was friendly and prompt. It was like having dinner with old friends you haven't seen in awhile and it's just what was needed after such a heartbreaking start to the year. Please go support and meet the new neighbors.
