While visiting New Orleans for the Defense Health IT Conference, we decided to dine at Namaste NOLA, located at 222 Decatur Street inside the Wyndham. The food was excellent--flavorful, well-prepared, and deserving of 4.5 stars. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. We often felt overlooked and not properly attended to. Even simple requests, such as onions or green chilies, came with additional charges. The surcharges themselves were not the primary concern; it was the overall impression that every small request was being scrutinized instead of being handled with warmth and hospitality. Namaste NOLA serves very good food, but the customer-service experience needs significant improvement. Upon walking in, it was immediately clear this wasn't some watered-down, Americanized Indian restaurant. The aromas alone told you that. The food was excellent and felt authentic from start to finish. The cocktail program was also top-tier and far better than what I've experienced at most Indian restaurants. That said, there are a few areas where I think the experience could improve. My girlfriend was trying Indian food for the first time, and we would have appreciated a bit more guidance from our server regarding the menu and spice levels, especially since she's sensitive to spice. A little direction would go a long way for first-time guests. I also noticed several walk-in parties turned away between 9:20 and 9:40 PM despite the restaurant closing at 10:00 PM. As someone who previously worked in the service industry, I understand that everyone wants to get home at the end of the night. Still, as a customer, I'd be disappointed to arrive during posted business hours and be turned away. Lastly, I felt the dessert program was a missed opportunity. The food and cocktails set such a high bar that a more robust dessert menu could really elevate the overall experience. On a positive note, I have to give a special shoutout to Satya, who was bartending and helping on the floor during our visit. Decided to stop here for a vegetarian Indian meal with another while visiting Nola. Between the two of us we ordered quite an array of appetizers and entrees. The paneer pakora was tasty and an excellent way to start the meal along with the gobi manchurian. The little dipping sauce and lime really brought the flavors together. The paneer masala was also delicious. We decided to be a bit adventurous and ordered the menthi malai mutter, which turned out to be an interesting but also tasty choice of fenugreek koftas over sauce. What I didn't enjoy, however was the mango lassi. Theirs had a very heavy spice flavor... perhaps too much cardamom. Overall a very tasty place with a lot of meat and vegetarian options. read more

I usually don't eat Indian food (as I get that at home) but after enjoying Cajun / creole for a week, I decided to try this place out. I have to say, I didn't have high expectations but was blown away by the flavors. The gobi Manchurian is the best I have had in the United States! Hot wok in Chicago and Atlanta was very close in taste to this one. The sauce under the fish was a South Indian tamarind based thick curry. The naans were very fresh and the mango lassi was thick. The Indian food aroma filled the place as we walked in - when I go to a Korean BBQ, they give us a garbage bag to put our jackets in - I wish Indian food places did the same. The service was good - there were very few servers, so I had to ask for water (since the butter chicken was also spicy). If you don't care for spicy don't go here or ask them for mild. Very disappointing experience. We walked quite a distance specifically to explore some Indian food here , only to be turned away. The restaurant advertises lunch hours until 3:00 PM, but we arrived about 30 minutes before closing and were told they were no longer serving dine-in customers. Instead, we were asked to place a to-go order. If the restaurant stops seating customers before its published closing time, that should be clearly communicated. Not honoring the posted hours is frustrating and misleading, especially for customers who make the effort to visit. Overall, the customer service left a lot to be desired. Don't feel bad as some of the other reviews did speak a lot about their quality too and don't feel missed much . Lufu Nola would rather be a better restaurant to visit for both their food and quality of service . read more

While walking through downtown, we caught the incredible aroma coming from Namaste and instantly knew we had to stop in. We easily made a reservation online and were seated right away when we arrived. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff were so friendly. The mango lassi was absolutely delicious! We ordered the vegetable samosas, butter chicken, garlic naan, and chicken biryani... everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The portions were generous, and we even had plenty of leftovers for the next day. We would highly recommend giving Namaste a try! read more

This has been on my "to-visit" list and I finally went and it was so worth it! Namaste is in a great location near many local hotels and parking garages. The inside is very spacious. They have spaces for large and small groups. I went by myself and was seated at a cute table in the middle of the restaurant. The decor is really chic and inviting. The staff members are all friendly and they hustle to make sure your needs are met. The menu has a variety of typical Indian restaurant options and a lot of things I had never seen before. There's a lot to choose from. I went with a known favorite, the chicken tikka misala and buttered naan. Everything was delicious. The meal was appropriately priced and the portions large enough that I was able to bring some home for lunch the next day. I had a great experience at Namaste! read more

We were walking in the neighborhood and smelled Indian food from the outside. We love Indian food and wanted to give this place a try. We were seated right away and we were happy they were open late. We ordered two dishes you don't get typically see at many Indian restaurants. Unfortunately, when the food came, it was extremely salty and almost hard to eat. The overall flavor was there but they were also very heavy with fats as the oil seemed to just pool on the top of the food. The rice and naan tasted good and fresh. The service was rather slow and we were not checked on until we were almost done eating. They apologized for the salt, but unfortunately, we decided just to eat our meals so they could not remake it. They gave us a free dessert, but unfortunately, we do not like Gulab Jamun so we did not eat it. Every time I come to this place, I'm very pleased with the service and the food. Each time I've gone, the server is usually super sweet and helpful. The restaurant is conveniently placed near the Orpheum and Saenger Theaters and makes for a quick stop for a bit to eat before a show. The restaurant is always exceptionally clean and nicely decorated. The restroom is in the connecting hotel and a bit of a walk so prep to do that before ordering or when you're leaving. The samosas are a delicious dish to start with. The chicken 65 is very good and makes me always want more. The Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani and the Chicken 65 Biryani are both great entree options. My friend and I always share entrees so we can try more food. The garlic naan is a must have. The cocktails are always unique and good. read more

If you're looking for a great authentic Indian food experience in New Orleans, this is it! I've dined at Namaste Nola a couple of times, once with a larger group, and the second on my own, so I've had the pleasure of trying a variety of dishes. My colleagues all love this place and even my Indian coworkers will attest to the food here. We never seem to have trouble getting a table without a reservation and the staff here is always warm and friendly. The restaurant is not very easy of a find, but it's located next door to a Subway - spot the Subway and look to the right! Surprisingly, the interior is wide, open, and comfortable. Namaste Nola's menu is very extensive. If you're looking for some recommendations, here are a few of my favorite dishes: - GOBI MANCHURIAN: cauliflower & manchurian sauce - CHICKEN 65: chicken strips & fennel seeds - BIRYANI (chicken or lamb) - BUTTER CHICKEN: tender pieces of chicken cooked in a creamy & buttery tomato-based gravy, infused with a harmonious blend of spices - CHICKEN VEPUDU: tender bone-in chicken stir-fried with a medley of spices and curry leaves - KORMA CHICKEN: cashew nut & coconut And of course, always need the garlic naan and a lassi! As much as we love our favorite Indian restaurant back home, it has a down to earth style, while this place is very classy. And OMG the ingredients match the decor! Like our favorite at home, Namaste makes a Sweet Lassi correctly, with rosewater. Mango was good and not overly thick. They had a naan we hadn't tried before, cheese naan, which was good - almost a cheese quesadilla! The menu had great items we had never come across before, like an eggplant dal dish, while our new standard favorite, paneer tikka masala, was superb. These were supposedly mild (or "low spice") and we would not call them that, but it was not superhigh spice either (and the lassis helped), and the flavors of both dishes were tremendous. This all screamed high quality, as was the service. I do wish they hadn't started mopping the floor while we were still eating - we had come in at 915, the kitchen closes at 945. and it was around 10, but we did not keep them too much longer. This was still a great find and we are glad we included this in our NOLA travels! read more

Placed a to go order and was not disappointed, after being drawn to the restaurant by the smell of the food on my way to UPS. I got butter chicken, garlic naan and a mango lassi, which is my go to at any new place, just because there is only so much that meal can be messed up. They... didn't mess anything up. I was so impressed. They packaged it up so it traveled really well and when I sat down to eat, the lie I told about saving half for lunch the next day went out the window. The service was fast. This review is mostly based on bar service. We went on a busy night (without a reservation), so we were seated at the bar. There was a sport on the tv that I'd never watched before. That was pretty cool. The bartender's service was excellent. He offered food and drink selections and talked about the cocktails he created. He even let us try some Indian rum and told us where to purchase it. I really enjoyed what was described as an Indian version of a hurricane. The curry leaf added some interesting, complex flavors. I also had a wine cocktail. I'm not the biggest fan of wine, but it wasn't bad. I also tried what @bukulocal described as the best fried chicken in the city. I haven't tried enough places to co-sign that claim, but I will say that the chicken was pretty good. This was my second time here. I'd go back again. Came here for a quick lunch and was not disappointed! Namaste is located on the corner of Baronne and Common Street, and despite the subtle exterior of the restaurant, the inside was incredibly vibrant and cozy, and perfect for a quiet conversation, as the tables are adequately spaced and roomy. I ordered the (mild) butter chicken, one of my favorite Indian dishes. The curry itself and rice are plated separately, and the flavors were exquisite! Personally, I enjoy the curry and rice combined for every bite, and would've liked just a tad more rice, but overall the spices and flavor were fantastic and the chicken was moist and juicy, even after having leftovers at home! I attended a professional conference and had never been to New Orleans before this. Every talked about New Orleans food. Everything I tried at "regular" family restaurants was the same, and none of it wow! My default is Indian food and Namaste Nola was perfect. We stayed for 4 nights at a hotelnex door, and discovered this just a day before leaving NOLA. Awesome place. Very courteous and welcoming staff and very appropriate decorations and paintings. The painting are of the "Mural" genre. Loved each of them. We ordered a standard "Panner Tikka Masala" but te taste was unque and different, a hint of Hyderabad lingered in it. The curd rice was a bit dry, but really nothing to compalain. I am just getting picky here! Hats off to the chef, who we learned late, was from Hyderabad. My husband and I drove down from the Northshore to have dinner at Namaste. They offer a very diverse menu of north and south asian dishes so we were excited to try it all out. Our server, Laura, was attentive, answering all our questions and offering great suggestions we ultimately went with. We ended up ordering the shrimp roast, mango dal, chicken 65 biryani and chicken golguna. We also ordered a garlic nan and roti. Everything was great with the biryani and chicken being standouts. The food was serve super hot (which is not easy to get these days), generous portions and with minimal oil. We will certainly be back to try some of the items that were unfortunately 86ed due to holidays and shirt staffing. A recommendation to call for a reservation and sit in the back part of the restaurant. We did not and had to sit toward the front near the bar. As they share their entrance with a hotel, the doors were opening and closing constantly on one of the colder NOLA nights. read more

Namaste is completely amazing. I wouldn't have expected to have such incredible Indian cuisine in the lobby of a Wyndham, but the food is absolutely delicious. Don't be fooled by the unassuming location! I've ordered the same thing every time I come here, and it's been consistently excellent. I get an appetizer of samosas, which are perfectly spiced, and for my entree I get the chicken korma, with an order of plain naan. Chicken korma is one of my go-to dishes at any Indian restaurant, and Namaste's is up there with some of the best. Their naan is also great. It's a smaller space that's off a hotel and very nice but casual. I enjoyed my Taj Mahal Lager . The butter naan was some of the best I've ever eaten.
