I can't believe I haven't reviewed Punjabi Dhaba yet. I have been several times and it is consistently fantastic. There is a good variety on the buffet and everything tastes flavorful. The service is great. On this last visit, I could not eat the pakora because I am allergic to potato. The manager brought out a plate of spinach pakora as a surprise, which was very thoughtful. We were checked on enough to feel taken care of but not so much that it was intrusive. I will absolutely be back! read more

Charged for nalli nihari but gave us plain goat curry, which is is 7$ cheaper. We ordered a lot of food and this Sunny person made up some stoy about how "sometimes we have to switch the nihari meat with goat". For about $20, you get to eat their daily lunch buffet, which was fantastic both times that we've been here! You definitely get the most bang for your buck here. The buffet menu differs each day, but they have items such as: *Dosa *Pokoras *Chicken or goat curry *Tandoori chicken *Butter chicken *Chicken kabob *Saag paneer *Lamb curry *Fried fish *Biryani *Daal *Shahi Paneer *Carrot or pinapple halwa *Jalebi *A whole selection of sauces, chutneys, and pickles and so much more that I cannot remember! Every item was well seasoned and delicious. All of the meats were so tender and juicy. Really cooked to perfection. I was pretty impressed by the food at Punjabi Dhaba! I went for the first time this past weekend with some of my friends to try their lunch buffet. The restaurant is out in Kenner, but the drive is worth it to get authentic Indian food at a reasonable price which can be pretty hard to find in New Orleans. Someone in our group had dietary restrictions//allergies and the owner came out to help explain each dish to ensure that they would be able to eat from the buffet. The buffet consisted of classical Indian dishes, but it also had specialty dishes such as Methi Matter which impressed me. They also make fresh dosas with sambar during the buffet period. Coming to post in the light of Mr. Negi's passing to highlight just how wonderful this place is- not only is the food authentic in a way that uses spices that made my parents reminisce about their childhood dishes growing up in India, but Mr. Negi and his team always made an effort to make every guest at the restaurant feel welcomed by personally greeting them and spending at least 2-3 minutes at each table. His hospitality combined with the fun decor made and continues to make this place more special than the average Indian restaurant in a way that stays true to its roots with the food and hospitality. For the food, tandoori chicken is never dry and has the perfect spice level. Same goes for the kabobs that are clearly all baked to perfection in their custom tandoor. Paneer dishes are always on point and a favorite is the appetizer. Buffet quality is always on par with dinner service. And definitely definitely recommend the rasmalai trifle with a side of masal chai to end the meal. One of the most unique and perfectly executed desserts I've ever had an Indian restaurant. Highly highly recommend this place for the amazing food that's made with a lot of love from a talented team. I also catered a 75-person event with them and the food was personally delivered in warmers and was a hit at the party. Portions were more than generous and pricing was very competitive. My daughter and I took a shot at trying some Indian food, but wanted to go to a buffet because we have no clue what to order. The inside of the restaurant is very nice. It is really clean and pretty fancy. The service is fantastic and the people are very friendly. One of the staff could see that we were kind of lost at the buffet, so he brought us on a "tour" of it and explained everything single item to us. I thought that was really nice. I asked about a certain item that I'd seen in their reviews on Yelp, but the lady said that they only make it on certain days. She told the kitchen staff to make it, and brought them to us free of charge. Ok, now the food.... It is very fresh and they are constantly adding to it. The warm naan melts in your mouth. There were probably roughly twelve items on the buffet, and we only found one we didn't like. Between the food and the service, this is a great place for an adventurous foodie like us. I've been here twice. Once with takeout and once in person. The staff are friendly but they're still ironing out service issues. When I ate in person we got the wrong food twice, and it was a super long wait, the staff was not well informed on what came with each item. If you're craving delicious Indian food do not come here!!!! Terrible experience from beginning to end. Bad service, horrible bland food and shady "bartender"/server. Walked in to nearly empty place, and nobody greeted us as we just stood there. Server comes from the kitchen and shows us to a table, he never came back to take our order so we flagged another person from the kitchen who took our order. When trying to get their "specialty cocktails" they had none. Guy (clearly NOT A BARTENDER) was struggling..so we decided to go with a double Crown & diet. He didn't know how to make that either..and we had to explain it to him 3 times. Drinks took forever-by the time thy got to us the ice was half melted and watered down. DEFINITELY NOT DOUBLES either!!! My bf got up and walked to bar to get an extra shot only to be ignored for several minutes while the guy chatted up his 3 other customers. He then proceeded to bring us 2 extra shots "on him" with his apologies..but get this..HE CHARGED US EVRY SINGLE ONE! Food arrived but BLAND, with NO SALT. Everyone there is so nice and especially helpful when explaining what selections they have for those unfamiliar like myself....we got some great recommendations! We tried the Murgh Makhani (butter chicken), Lamb Korma, lahsooni gobi (fried cauliflower), garlic naan bread, basmati rice and spinach fritters with two types of dipping sauce...you can believe we will be going back for sure! Would not recommend this place. Honestly I would recommend they shut this place down and just do something else. I cannot imagine this restaurant stays open for another year or so, it has got to be a crime they've made it this long. Mediocre food for a premium price tag. Also, what in the world is a large party fee? For 6 people? What is this place a Michelin star wannabe? Shaky chairs as well and they are like huge chairs, huge and shaky and not very comfortable. Bathroom had an overflowing trashcan with stains on it and there was a mess of papers all over some of the other tables we walked by. Staff were extremely slow even with one party it just felt like they didn't care. Didn't refill the water and it wasn't even like they poured it out for us, WE had to do it. For a 200 dollar price tag I better get my water refilled. Again this place needs to take a good long hard look at itself and figure out its identity. There is no way in hell that 50-80 dollar food should be costing 200 dollars, and nothing about the experience warrants the other 120 dollars. You're better off knocking on some random auntie's door and paying her 50 bucks for some catering instead of torturing yourself here. Never have I ever had stomach problems when eating home cooked food but somehow when I come out to eat at this desi place. Let me just tell you the buffett was very good I didn't get any pictures cause I was eating and enjoying it. They had some cauliflower with sweet peas oh lord yes I don't even like cauliflower but I got it 4 times all the food was fresh and very good I have no complaints. They could of poked me in the eye and I would still enjoyed it. If you are wanting to try Indian food this place is soo good. The cooks kept food out there. And the place was packed but it was still easy to get to the buffet. They have at least 20 different dishes salad fresh fruit and a few desserts. Ordered Uber delivery while on travel for work. Food was good. I was happy to get Indian food after a 6 hour flight

The food was delicious, but the service was possibly the worst we have ever experienced. Not rude or inattentive, just completely inept - like an episode of Fawlty Towers. Somebody needs to go to "waiter school" and then train the rest of the staff. For instance, don't snatch empty plates away so quickly that you slop gravy and utensils all over the table and into the customer's lap (happened twice!). Customers shouldn't have to ask for utensils, glasses and napkins. Etc., etc. Another complaint: There was a chalkboard sign by the door advertising buy one, get one free on "alcohol." But when the check came, we were told that "alcohol" doesn't include beer! Maybe it's a language thing and what they intended was 2 for 1 "cocktails." To be fair, $12 for a 22 oz. imported beer isn't a bad price, but that sign is definitely misleading. I wasn't going to argue about it because at that point we just wanted to leave. Bottom line: Maybe a great place for take out, but not for dining in. read more

We went in, were greeted and sat, offered water, then asked whether we wanted to do the buffet or view menus. The menu is very organized, extensive, and offers something for everyone. Our waiter, Mike was incredibly kind and willing to help. The food itself was fantastic, like an adventure of taste. Only thing is if you're lactose intolerant, bring some dairy pills!
