Finally visited Nirvana for Magazine St. restaurant week. They offered four different Thalis for lunch and I had to try the seafood--what a treat! Featuring a couple of items not normally on the menu, including a delicious Crawfish Rogan Josh (think Kashmiri Etouffe) and Rock Crab Korma that was worth the effort! Our friendly waiter, Sherwin, gave exemplary service, deftly working the room and hand preparing our cocktails from scratch, including a lovely mango daiquiri. I can't wait to return! read more

Sherwyn is one of the best servers of any restaurant I have been to attentive, ready to answer questions and make suggestions on navigating the menu. Also, this is consistent as I and my coworkers and friends have been to to restaurant multiple times. The food is delicious and homemade. Nothing taste processed. The portions are very much large enough to share and the prices are reasonable. I tend to get the Flag of India with one of my friends getting the Nirvana Special. That gives us 6 dishes to taste from. As for the Ambiance it is beautifully decorated with portraits very repetitive of India. The mild lighting is perfect for getting out of the New Orleans sun or date nights in the evening. read more

We ordered the typical butter, chicken, lamb, vindaloo, and my new favorite fish korma. The garlic naan is always hot and fresh... My sister and I decided to try a Indian spot in New Orleans and this place was close. The food to me was overall average. Now the appetizers were really good, I had the samosa and my sister had some type of roll, both of which were great. Then I had the butter chicken, my go to Indian meal, and it was good but wasn't as good as other places I've had. We did have to choose a spice level and I think choose mild but i really could've gone spicier and I think it would've been more to my liking. We had the bread basket with the different types of naan and roti and that was good. The mango lassi was really really good. My sister had the lamb vindaloo and again could've been spicier but overall pretty good flavors and good portions. Service was slow cause there was only one waiter, he forgot our drink order and overall just took a while to get to us. Other than that this was a cute lil chill spot for some Indian. Sherwyn always takes good care of us when we come in. All of the staff are kind to our young daughter. I'm not an expert on Indian food but I like the saag and have tried a few other dishes at their suggestion - the nirvana sabji was particularly good. The art on the walls and the tvs playing food shows as well as the people-watching along Magazine St make it particularly comfortable when I'm alone.
