In response to the negative review by Lyn W, I want to share my experience with Dr. Collins and the…read morecrew at Edom Veterinary Clinic. I have used Edom Veterinary Clinic for five years. We have 10 cats and a dog. The doc and his staff have ALWAYS provided what I call above and beyond service to us. On two occasions, the doctor came in Friday or Saturday night to treat my cats that had been bitten by copperheads. On a third occasion, he waited at the office for an hour and a half after closing time because I was bringing in a kitten I found that had been hit by a car. I was sixty miles away when I called at 4:45. He said he would wait until I got there. He treated the kitten that night when I got there, and then kept her overnight, and came in again on Saturday to follow up. Last year, when one of my cats had cancer, we had to had him euthanized. At that time, Dr. Collins had been sick and his daughter, Dr. Alisa, was running the clinic in his absence. A few weeks after that, Dr. Alisa sent us a very nice sympathy card. She included a handwritten note saying that with our kitty's condition, we had made the difficult, but proper decision to euthanize him. We are very satisfied with both doctors and their entire staff. In fact, my wife bakes them a few dozen cookies now and then. We're seventy and have had lots of pets over our lifetimes. We have had the extremely good fortune to have three excellent vets in those years. The Collins family and their staff are right there at the top in terms of quality care for both the patient and the owner of the patient. Over the years, he helped me say goodbye to several of my dogs, as well as dogs belonging to my mom and dad. He understood how difficult those moments were. He would even come out to my vehicle so I could hold them in my arms while they peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge. I will always be grateful to him for the compassion he showed our family. Unfortunately, since Doc Collins retired, the clinic no longer has that same hometown, compassionate feeling to me. Last week, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my 13-year-old dog to sleep. I knew my dog. I knew her age, her condition, her quality of life, and I knew in my heart that it was time. It was not a decision I made lightly. Instead of being met with compassion, I felt like I was being grilled and made to defend my decision. I was questioned about when she last had bloodwork, how long she had been "bloated" (she wasn't bloated--she was overweight), and how long she had been having problems with her hind legs. I was told that if they knew the results of her last bloodwork, the vet could tell me what was wrong with her. I wasn't there because I didn't care enough to find out what was wrong. I was there because I loved my dog enough to know when it was time to let her go. Putting down a pet you have loved for 13 years is already an incredibly difficult and emotional decision. The last thing someone needs in that moment is to be made to feel guilty for choosing euthanasia instead of additional testing. I understand that a veterinarian has a responsibility to make sure euthanasia is appropriate, and I respect that. But there is a compassionate way to have that conversation. I left feeling judged and guilty during a moment when what I desperately needed was a little kindness and understanding. I truly miss the hometown veterinary clinic Edom used to be and the compassion Doc Collins showed my family for so many years.

I got an email confirming a 4 PM appointment, and Emily, the same person from the phone and chat, told me to bring Manny a GSD in. At 4 PM, they took us to a room where we spoke to a tech, who said someone would be with us shortly. She came back to look at him and asked if we wanted an X-ray for $175 (still no vet yet) or a physical from the doctor. We chose the physical, and she said the doctor would be in soon. By 5:21, she returned to apologize, saying there's only one doctor for 10 rooms. Can you say greed? We turned around and left. The waiting room still had 10 people trying to get into one of those rooms. I don't care how many doctors or rooms you have; that's your problem. If they told me to be there at 1 AM, I'd be on time. I'd heard good things in the past, which is why I chose this place, but now that they're in the big new building, their service is going downhill. Word will get around, just like in other reviews I've seen. Terrible service!

They give me a quote on how much itll be for overnight with 200 deposit and the rest is due tomorrow. A technician tells me theyll call around 8-9 for an update. Next morning comes and no call, I call at 950 for an update. Kitten is ok, eating and drinking and I will get a call later about the next step for his face. At 1120 im in town, swing by to pay for the overnight charge they said would be due today. Theres some confusion, i dont have to pay yet and shes quoting me a higher amount than they said the highest total would be last night. I talk to a technician and she shows me my kitten. They had gone ahead and removed the broken bone and she said the dr had just got in and would call me about what to do next. And I leave. I call again at 3 because no word from anyone. The receptionist says the dr just got in and she'll call me later. My boyfriend then calls them for answers. And about 30 minutes after he called them, they tell me to come pick up the kitten. I get up there, they charge me what they said they would last night, a technician visits me about the meds they gave him and explains they had tacked down part his nose skin and to bring him in for an update visit. After that long of having him, they send him home like this. I showed my mom and she told me he should be taken to the vet. Yes he should, just not this one.
