I've had the pleasure of visiting this little coffee shop a few times since its grand opening about a month ago and I must say, every experience I've had here has been great. The coffee is good, but even better is the food. Their breakfast tacos are flavorful and delicious. Their pastries are made fresh -- thick, hardy, and filling (I recommend the cinnamon roll and the blueberry muffin). The prices are reasonable. But what I love most is the ambiance. The seating area inside is spacious. There is a back section in case you want a little quiet area to yourself. The lights are dim inside and the atmosphere is very calm and homey. The comforting ambiance and the yummy food make Emerald a regular Saturday stop for me. Highly recommended! read more

I had the opportunity to try Emerald City last night during the Taste of Uptown. I sampled a very tasty iced coffee drink called the Quick Fix as well as a blueberry muffin. The drink was delicious and did exactly what is advertised - a nice bit of energy to make it through rest of night but didn't give me caffeine jitters. The muffin was yummy, crumbly top with moist interior. I was really full of food already from the ToU event so I stowed half the muffin in my purse...finished it this morning and it was just as good as last night. Looking forward to having this place to stop in on my way to the train. They have breakfast tacos on the menu that i am excited to try. The staff was very friendly too. This is a nice addition to the neighborhood that offers a more extensive drink menu and different food options than Baker & Nosh. I'll have to split my time between both now. read more

I stopped here for a chai latte while apartment hunting. The staff was incredibly friendly. She apologized for the delay as she helped the people before me, but honestly, compared to any other coffee shop, I didn't notice any real delay. The barista gave her full attention to each customer in front of her and gave helpful information as we made our choices. When I ordered she let me know that they have their own blend of chai spices and that they put a bag of English breakfast (I think) in for the caffeine so not to be surprised. She told me what the recommended steeping time was as well as her own personal preference for steeping it a bit longer. The space itself has that comfortable, coffee-house dark colors but huge windows to balance it with a ton of natural light. I found a spot easily. I will keep it in mind for next I'm back at the Wilson stop! read more

You might call me a regular... Or just obsessed. Not only do they have some great (and unique) coffees but their pastries are made in house and fresh? How do they do it?! Recently, I can't get enough of the chocolate chip muffin. The cake is buttery and they a perfectly heavy handed with the chocolate chips. On top of all that the atmosphere is great for getting some reading or work done. This may be my second home even more so than my job, which is saying something. Happy caffeinating!! read more

Based on previous reviews I got the caffe Medici cappuccino style both times I've been here and I've been so happy with it both times. The drink has that special coffee kick without the aftertaste of motor oil and the chocolate is moderately sweet with a freshly grated rind of orange giving off enough flavor to balance out the coffee and chocolate. As if it could get any better, the whipped cream on top is creamy and sweet, the perfect finish. The coffee shop is also adorable with plenty of space for meetings and work. 10/10 recommend going here! read more

Finally had the chance to get coffee and hang out at this oasis in the middle of the slummy heart of Uptown, and it's definitely a nicer version of its Sheridan counterpart. If I didn't have to wade through a stew of harassment and possible danger on Wilson to get here, I'd come here all the time. As a place to stop for coffee on the way to work it's great. As a hangout or stopover on the weekend it's great. Decent service and good coffee. read more

Large and interesting menu offering a lot of drinks that you can't find at other coffee shops. Great vibe, I come here a lot to play board games or read books. Staff are super friendly and helpful. It's a nice place, and is easy to get to. But their service has zero sense of urgency. Ive been waiting for a sandwich now for 40 minutes. It's not busy in here right now for food. But they are in the back doing who knows what while a line of 6 people is just waiting for someone to do something. Food is good and coffee is coffee. Let's talk breakfast tacos. These are made and stored wrapped in foil under a heat lamp. This works perfectly well for these delicious grab-and-go breakfast treats. Order your taco and select your own from the case (flour tortilla with egg and cheese and your choice of potato, refried bean, or bacon). I opted for the bean and it was delicious. Grab a house made green salsa from the refrigerator case and enjoy your perfect breakfast bite. read more

You know, when the Starbucks on Wilson closed, and then Baker and Nosh -- which was supposed to reopen into a bigger space in the same Sbux location -- well, didn't, I was a bit peeved. But then came Brian Osborne and this delightful coffee shop called Emerald City. It's just the best. Treat yourself to a super spacious living room-like atmosphere, replete with nice wooden floors, artwork on the wall, and even a bevy of boardgames if that's your thing. Everyone who works there is an all-star ;) The coffee is tasty and potent. And the baked goods are just outstanding if you are there early enough in the morning to have them fresh. With risk of losing out to one of you on the cinnamon rolls, I heavily recommend them. Oh, and did I mention that they have trivia, comedy shows, concerts, etc? Super spot. They did a great job remodeling the interior. It's very comfortable and a perfect quiet study spot. Music is very subtle in the background compared to most coffee shops. Coffee and tea are both good quality. The food options/snacks are made on site. It'll be interesting to see how Emerald City fares given the level of competition in the area. But for me Emerald City will probably be my favorite coffee shop, mostly because I don't care for Baker and Nosh, who sell baked bread with sugar for insane prices. They will probably need to lay down some extension cords/power strips. read more

I have been to Emerald City Uptown multiple times since they opened a couple of weeks ago. Everything I've tried so far has been great! Do yourself a favor and get a breakfast taco or two. The potato ones are my fave! The employees are very friendly and the atmosphere is cool. I enjoy having their great service and smiles when ordering my morning coffee (which in my opinion can't be said for some of their local competition) and it's safe to say that I've found my new favorite coffee shop. Both locations are awesome! Great for a coffee date, study session or quick bite. The space is artistically decorated and always clean. I recently had their chicken pesto sandwich: fresh, crisp veggies + squirt of balsamic + quality meat & tomato basil bread = warm, toasty goodness! Iced tea is particularly good, as are their "Something Different" drinks (e.g. Cafe Miel which combines espresso with honey, nutmeg, cinnamon & steamed milk). Great variety in coffee, non-coffee- and food choices. More seating than many similar coffee shops, and an inviting atmosphere with great employees.
