Emerald Mallard is a little food stall stand at the side of the humble Tavern. Got the OG Smashburger and was unfortunately underwhelmed. The burger came on a soft Martin potato roll. The two patties were nicely smashed and crisp on the edge. My burger patties were not too juicy though. Good amount of salt, but it was fine. The sauce did not taste like much flavor at all and was basically just creamy. The fries were nothing about, but they were nicely crisp and seasoned well with salt. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the burger though so maybe I just had an off day. I rather have a burger at Gotts. read more

Punches way above its weight in food quality. We had smash burger, chicken sandwich, caesar salad, deviled eggs, chicken noodle soup and the tiramisu. You just can't go wrong with any of it. The burger is delicious and cooked perfectly, w/o leaving a 'fatty' taste in mouth. The chicken sandwich is reasonably spicy and offers a good balance breading to meat. It is likely to be brined as it is very moist. The caesar salad is great. The amount of dressing is just right, capers and parmesan served generously round up an execellent salad. WAY ABOVE salad you would expect from a small place. The eggs are presented in the middle of a frisee salad and are excellent (again balance of tradition elevated to restaurant dining). Noodle soup istasty and well seasoned. The tiramisu is delicious (not too much coffee) and not too sweet. Had high hopes going in but I think I'm one and done. The set up to order outside (food only) and then have to find a table (if there is one) is not ideal. The wait staff was walking around with food trying to find people's order numbers and it felt like chaos all around. Then you have to line up in another line for drinks inside. Lots of lines, lots of waiting. We went with what we thought would be quick share plates. Only one of them had to be cooked (fries). We ordered the deviled eggs, Smoked Trout Rillette and fries. It took 35 min for the first plate to come out and then the rest slowly trickled behind. Deviled eggs were really cold and the filling was really dense. Felt like they had been in the refrigerator awhile. And if so, why so long to come out? I make better at home. Smoked trout rillette did not look appealing at all. It was very wet in texture and the color (due to the added beets) gave it the appearance of cat food. We could not taste the beets at all so it ended up just making it look bad. So this place replaces the old Humble Sea Tavern and is now a collab between a restaurant and Humble Sea Brewing On the left side is a small ordering window for food. It's mostly burgers, sandwiches, salads, baked goods/pastries. You take a number and seat yourself next door where they bring your food to you. Open seating with both indoor and outdoor tables. Grab your own utensils and water at the side of the bar. I got the popular OG smashburger. It was decent. Not the best I've had. Good size. It's a bit pricey at $18 but at least it comes with fries On the right side is a full bar with all humble sea beers. I've always been a fan of Humble Sea. Prices range from $8-12 depending on type of beer. Big selection. They also have a variety of pre-made cocktails. The bartenders are some of the friendliest and and nicest people. They even let you sample beers before purchasing. Didn't see an option for beer flights. Dog friendly. Music wasn't super loud, we had no problems having a conversation inside. Parking is no problem. They have a parking lot and it's not a super popular town that people visit. This place is great. Definitely for the foodies. I'm a foodie to the bone. I was met with a big smile from a very knowledgeable and welcoming team member. She is definitely a great first impression. One thing I noticed was everyone was working hard and when they made eye contact they were all smiling.... The two dishes I had were perfectly executed. Beautiful and delicious. I really want to get this place five stars for the cool vibes & downtown Felton... if you are familiar with the old Creamer House? They created a very high benchmark for their burger and sadly missed.... (10/10) I'm rating the burger and chicken sandwich. The Smashburger (3/5) is completely over-the-top rich and fatty; if that's your thing, you will love it. I have one occasionally, but then I always kind of regret it afterwards as excessively decadent. I believe the French fries are likely from a food supplier and don't taste like they were made in-house at all. Yesterday we were fortunate enough to try the pork belly with the slow roasted white peach which was killer! The avocado toast from the mallard is nothing to F with and I mean that in the most Wu Tang (don't ever change it way). Rosemary butter avocado pickled Fresno chillies topped with the most amazing poached egg. But the show stopper was the 5 day dry aged trout. Beef fat rubbed in a bacon/pork sauce. The skin was so crispy and the compliment of the Romano bean on top of the green beans cut with some cranberry beans... yikes we savored this all the way home to Pacific Grove. We found this spot when went to see a show at the Felton Music Hall. It's across the street and it was packed before the show. We were lucky enough to find a seat and ordered a few drinks from the bar and some oysters. The oysters were delicious and the sauce came in a dropper. My favorite was the blended pina colada. I am not a huge fan of this drink usually, but their recipe hit the spot. It was the only blended premade drink offered so I figured I'd try it and I am still thinking about it!! Not too sweet, just strong enough, and perfect for a hot day. The atmosphere of the restaurant/bar was fun and lively. The crowd was mostly those who were going to the show across the street. The building itself is an old Victorian house with emerald green walls and sheek decorations. Fresh flowers on every table. Felt like I was at my grandmas house having a meal but in a good way. Let me tell you that I normally love spicy food but the chicken thigh was drenched in chili oil to the point where in was not edible. Really wanted to like this place based on the pictures but the smash burger had no lace or crisp came out damn near boiled in texture. The bone marrow also wasn't leeched of the blood long enough and also wasn't cooked long enough felt like I was eating jelly instead of that typical melt in your mouth vibe. Oh snap! The "Émeraude Colvert" does not disappoint. Caesar was on point, the clam chowder will have you saying chaudrée, like the Simpsons episode. I'm so happy for Felton, they deserve something this good and I've been back a couple times to make sure it wasn't a fluke- don't want to mislead anyone ever. The burgers were why I originally went, and honestly I think I've found my favorite burger in Santa Crush but the chicken sandwich lives on in my brain. It was delicious. Lots of thoughtful planning & care went into to the flavor combo, I keep telling more and more people to go try.
