Had a great experience at the Cowboy Bar & Grill! The service was excellent, and our server was very friendly and attentive. We tried the cranberry salad with cranberry dressing and the cornbread ... both were delicious. We also tasted the Philly cheesesteak, which was very tasty as well. The outdoor patio has a really nice atmosphere, and it's dog-friendly, which is a huge plus. The prices were very reasonable, too. The only downside was that the espresso martini was a bit too bitter for my taste. I wish I had saved room for dessert! I have tried many things there. Everything is so good. Nothing should stop. It's a unique menu! Very flavorful items on the menu! We ordered their Upstream Salad, which is a grilled salmon filet over premium greens, with chunks of green apple, dried cranberries and almonds, and topped with Parmigiano Reggiano. There was a certain flavor to the salmon filet, so I asked our server - the flavoring was turmeric. The spice added a buttery taste to the salmon, without adding any bitterness or other bold flavorings. Delicious. Our order of their Fish & Chips consisted of three large fish filets coated with a nice light beer batter. It was served with French fries that were done perfectly well - crispy on the outside with a pillowy interior. There is limited inside dining and two patio seating areas to enjoy eats and drinks. So I'm a guy and traditionally we eat pretty much anything however I'm married to a wonderful cook who enjoys fine dining and has made me up my grilling game. So I know what good food is supposed to taste like and there are two rules of thumb. you can have Expensive food that taste really good. Or not good tasting food that's really cheap. Unfortunately neither of those was my experience. I haven't been here for a few years, but I'm very disappointed. I ordered some takeout primarily the 18 ounce ribeye with point Reyes blue cheese with coleslaw on the side and added an additional tub of chili. the very nice woman on the other end of the phone said they changed the menu and they had a new steak called a Ron long although it was only 14 ounces I still have the great benefit of paying the same price as the bigger 18 oz steak $49 I realize prices go up and I can live with that. However, the steak I got was probably the worst steak I've had in over a decade! And that is saying a lot, since I've been to England. In Fact it was closer to medium well as opposed to the medium rare I ordered.There was absolutely, no marbling or fat in the steak at all !this was not a restaurant quality steak. I guess they got a new cookie running the chuckwagon, but apparently he doesn't know that fat equals flavor it also equals tender, juicy meat all which was missing in this 3/8 inch slab of shoe leather. The steak was dry flavorless and overcooked frankly not worth five dollars let alone the $49 they charged me. the coleslaw turned out to be sliced carrots, onions that had sat in the same room as a tepid pan of water (not the slaw I ordered) the cornbread seemed "old " the chili, however, was certainly better than canned and maybe slightly on par with what you could buy down the street in Safeway total price for this culinary treat was $82. It quite honestly was not worth the money they charged, let alone the cost of gas to get it. like I said I was very disappointed. when I was there a few years ago The food was actually pretty good. Maybe I'll go back in a few years and see if the flavor tide has come back in. I'm not expecting Michelin star food here however I do expect them to get my order right and not charge $64 for such a terrible low-grade piece of meat. Frankly, the food was a rip off. Save your money for lottery tickets, sure you can't eat those either, but if you win a couple of bucks, you might be able to buy a drink at the bar! read more

I went to Felton to check out the trains at the roaring railroad and we decided to have lunch at the Cowboy bar and grill afterwards. The place was empty on a Saturday afternoon and seating was no problem. We sat outside it was nice and clean had a cool fountain in the middle of the courtyard. We ordered the yahoo rib platter, the Baja shrimp salad and the shrimp appetizer. The shrimp appetizer was tough. The shrimp appetizer was pretty overcooked and chewy. It was not great. The Baja salad on the other hand was good the shrimp in the salad was fresher and flavorful. I also enjoyed the dressing. But the ribs were mid at best. Yes, the meat came off the bone tender but it had NO FLAVOR! No seasoning at all it was very bland. We had to drench it in BBQ sauce to make it taste good. The cornbread was also not good it had like re bell peppers in it and super dry and tasteless. The fries were nice though they were crunchy and salty they were good. All in all with the service which was good the waitress was a sweetheart I give it a 2 star review if the shrimp appetizer was fresh and they put seasoning on those ribs like a rub or something on it I would have given it 4 stars. read more

I got to stop in while visiting family in the area and let me say first and foremost the staff were very helpful and accommodating to a member of our party who is mobility impaired. The staff was the best thing about this place The ambiance of this place is great as it is hard to beat eating under the redwoods. However a lack of propane for heat lamps when all that is available is outdoor seating is kind of a drag. I recognize it's an old building but only one toilet is also kind of a drag The food here is pretty average. It is basically like going to a mom and pop version of Chilis. Our party of 8 arrived on time for our reservation at 6:30PM and were seated immediately, at a table that was two seats short. They placed two additional seats, one at either end of the table after a moment of us standing around the table. We were seated with regular menus, specials menus and drink menus (several beers crossed off). I didn't time it but it was quite a while before the waitress asked if we wanted to order drinks, we asked for water all around and ordered 1 soft drink, 2 jalapeño pineapple Margaritas, 2 regular margaritas, 2 of the crossed off beers after asking if the crossed off beers were available and were told they were. After 5-10 minutes the margaritas arrived and then we were told the beers were in fact NOT available. So another variety of beer was ordered. One of the jalapeño margaritas was missing the jalapeño entirely, that guest opted not to say anything. We asked for water all around again since it was never brought to the table after the first request. Two pitchers of water were placed at either end of the table and a high stack of plastic cups at one end, it was kind of odd. Seeing that it was taking so long for our server to return to take our meal orders I asked to place my young son's meal. I'm glad that I did that because the server didn't return to take the rest of the tables orders until my son's food arrived. We all ordered, and while we waited for our food to arrive I ordered another meal for my young son (he got the hot legs which is a tray of fried wings and drumettes served with bbq sauce and ranch, which apparently wasn't enough food for him lol!), he really liked them so it seemed promising in spite of the issues we had with the drinks and service so far. As my son ate his fried chicken, with his hands as you do, I noticed him wiping his mouth with his hands and that's when I realized there were no place settings or napkins on our table, a young male employee passed by the table and I asked if he could possibly bring us napkins and or place settings please. He brought back, I kid you not, 2 napkins ‍ When the food arrived we had to ask for condiments, ranch, ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc and place settings. Again no napkins were brought to the table so we asked again. Maybe they were running low because they didn't bring very many when they finally did ‍ My review is getting lengthy so I'll try to cut it short ... burgers were good, fries were perfectly crispy and salted, fish and chips chefs kiss ... three specials were ordered and none were enjoyable. The salmon was dry and plain, the "coleslaw" that came with it was not as described so I don't know if they subbed it out or what, garlic mashed potatoes were garlicky but pasty. The other two specials were sandwiches, one was supposed to be thin sliced beef with shared mushrooms and onions, it had very little of any of that. The other sandwich was called the "sloppy Jed" and I was told by that guest that it also lacked in flavor and fillings. Almost forgot, we had a vegan guest at our table too, she ordered the bbq tempeh tacos and she said they were "edible". Our check was $300 including a large party gratuity of 18%, which was fine but we didn't tip on top of that. The server, while friendly enough never asked if we wanted another cocktail or beer or if we needed a refill on my son's soft drink. One person used the restroom while we were there and upon their return suggested that we all wait until we got home if we needed to use the restroom. I took his advice and avoided that. I think the condition of the restroom at a restaurant tells a lot about the establishment on all fronts. Our bill arrived and while looking it over I noticed that one of the beers that had been ordered but wasn't available was still on the check, so we asked to have that removed. Like I said, the total was around $300 including 18% gratuity which is what it is I guess. We have passed this restaurant every time we vacation in the area a couple of times every year for the last 8 years and always wanted to try it. We happened to find this place after hiking with our 4 year old twins at Henry Cowell, the drive back to San Jose was riddled with traffic so wanted a place near by to eat. It was a Sunday evening so we didn't need a reservation but the outdoor patio was pretty busy. Immediately they brought crayons amd little figurines for our twins to play with which was nice! The outside patio is large and open along with being shaded and nice! I had a margarita called a pink antler it was absolutely delicious! You only need one! My husband ordered the chilli as an appetizer he quickly ate the whole bowl so my guess is that was excellent! I had a bleu cheese burger with fries which was fantastic it was huge and cooked perfectly! My husband cleaned his main dish place too, I believe he had the pulled pork something. The kids opted for mac and cheese and chicken tenders which were also devoured! The service was fantastic, the waitresses were all super friendly and seemed to all help eachother run tables. The bathrooms were clean and the inside of the resturant had a bar and tables for eating. I highly recommend if you are in Felton try this place out! We will be back. read more
