Stopped at Parish's for lunch after picking strawberries in Davenport. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The pub was packed with people watching the World Cup and enjoying food and drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were able to grab a table outside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Thankful for the truck parked on the street to block the noise from the passing cars.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our servers were attentive even with a full house. Our food came quickly and was served hot. We enjoyed our burgers and sandwiches. This was a nice surprise and we will be back

Decided to pre-game here for the UCSC's men's vb game and it was the perfect spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great service, great location and we had a great time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were in a rush and didn't get alot of pics but everyone loved their picks. Wings, fries, salads, basically a little bit of everything. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ample seating at the bar and dining area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even had seating outside and pet friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will definitely be back.

Parish Publick House in Santa Cruz is your typical local sports bar, packed with locals and offering a great, affordable American and Mexican menu--rare these days. Large beer selection, and it doesn't pretend to be anything fancy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We caught a lively buffalo wings eating contest, with bar vibes including everyone singing "Sweet Caroline."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Perfect spot to feel at home among non-judgmental folks. Highly recommend![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Burger week special

I came here about a year ago, but after waiting to be greeted by servers for over 15+ minutes, my friends and I left. I wanted to give Parish Publick another chance, after hearing about it from several people around town. I stopped by on Sunday around 1:30pm, the restaurant (including outdoor seating) & bar were both decently busy. This establishment uses self seating, but once we sat down we weren't even greeted by anyone for at least five minutes (Gave me deja vu). Once greeted we were given some time with the menus, which has lots of options to choose from! My boyfriend and I stopped by specifically for Burger Week, they had three options to pick from. I got the "Tropic Like It's Hot" & my boyfriend got the "Fajita Bandida". We also ordered the "Lavender Sour" & "Pear-ish", drinks took about 10 minutes to come out and were decent. It took about 30+ minutes for my food to come out, at this time they told my boyfriend there was still a delay in the kitchen with his food. We ended up splitting my burger and by the time we finished asked for his Togo. The burger we split was yummy and the portions are big (for food), but we both left extremely disappointed with service. Our server also only checked on us once & was hasty while interacting. The food runner was helpful, kind and apologetic though. I can understand things taking a while when it's busy, but having to wait that long at a casual pub is ridiculous. I feel bad for the staff having the scramble around and feel that it is the responsibility of management to properly staff their business. Overall, their food was good, but I don't think I would come back after experiencing issues with service twice; there are plenty of good places in Santa Cruz that don't take as long to get a good meal.

Came here here with our son after UCSC drop-off for the school year. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Conveniently located near campus and housing, it has a charming interior in one of the major nearby shopping centers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside was quite boisterous, with a long wood bar, wood table, chairs, etc. Cozy but bright inside with all the windows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Menu has all the pub food favorites, burgers, hot sandwiches, fish and chips, salads, wings, etc. Good draft beer selection as well. We all had burgers, 2 Pfeiffers and a classic. The Pfeiffer has cheese, bacon, an onion ring and BBQ sauce; meat was of great quality and one of the largest burgers I have eaten in a long time. Food came out piping hot and the fries too were excellent. Service was top notch throughout, personable, fast and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A great place to grab a quality meal, or to stay and drink(!) in a casual and fun atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Pretty tasty burgers! We came in to try to the burger week burgers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place was really busy![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Its seat yourself and seemingly whatever random server is available comes to help. Service is slow, but it makes sense given how crowded the place was. To be honest the burger didn't wow me, it was kind of just a burger (and an expensive burger too!). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Maybe this place just isn't for me, as they're consistently busy and packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Looks like they have a great tap list! Maybe that's what's drawing people in.

Totally stumbled upon this bar during Happy Hour because my friends and I wanted a snack. We were lured in by the "3 for $12 tacos" deal, which was superb. There wasn't an extra charge for seafood, so I chose 2 salmons and 1 grilled shrimp (though fried shrimp was tempting too). The cocktails were great and served perfectly (ie, chilled glasses and dried fruit decor). I heard the draft beer selection was great and tasted fresh. We also got other snacks, but the tacos were my favorite. I have to return next time with an empty stomach because Parish has THE best burgers around! We sat at the bar to watch the game and mingle with other locals, so I can't speak to how good the table service is, but the bartender was wonderfully quick with orders, drinks and food. She didn't partake in any small talk, which could appear unfriendly to some, but I thought she was professional and diligent at her job, so I liked her! Also, this location is quite different than their Aptos location. This one has a pool table and is more bar-focused. There are some tables on the side by the windows, but not many. There were lots of locals and sports games were on the screens. It was a lively group of patrons, and all in all, very enjoyable!

Came here for drinks after an afternoon at the Boardwalk. We'd had some not so good drinks already…read moreand were looking for a nice cocktail for a change of pace. The drinks here did not disappoint, they were well balanced and hit the spot perfectly. We perused the bar menu since that's all that was open at this point, and while so much sounded good, we ended up doing a custom order for a regular side of fries and the onion dip that normally comes with chips. Fries were good, not my favorite kind, but still good, and the onion dip was really great! The bar and surrounding area was open seating. We got a table close to the bar, so some ocean views just from a far. Service was friendly and even though it was pretty crowded, we never had to wait too long to be checked in on.

A restaurant dedicated to The Cheese. Cool…read more I moved from Santa Clara to Santa Cruz in 1972 and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I bought my first website from the O'Neill dive shop at the Harbor. Learned to surf at Cowells Beach, wearing O'Neill Seal Suits and Super Suits and Animal Skins, chasing Jack O'Neill around in his balloon with Mad Mike driving. Timmy O'Neill pushed me out of a dingy in the harbor channel once but I've forgiven him. They called Jack "The Cheese" but apparently I've been gone a while because I wasn't aware there was an entire restaurant, bar and lounge dedicated to The Cheese. Went there on a Thursday night in June and didn't have enough quarters to pay the parking meters on that uphill. Got lucky and found a parking space at Cowell's and used the change machine to get $5 in quarters, which is what it cost to park for a couple hours. Walked past a mural dedicated to several decades of Jack O'Neill going back to the 1950s: wetsuits, boats, hot air balloons, smiling girls. The air smelled like stale fish and salt. Inside was a clean, well-lighted place somewhere between funky and luxury .But closer to luxury. They've done a nice job with this place. The prices are reasonable in a city and a state and a time where prices can be unreasonable. Sat at a table up against the window, with a view over Cowells and the wharf and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the lights of all the fishing boats in the bay I ordered the loaded fries with avocado, which is kind of like french fry nachos. And they were good. Lots of Cheese. It's a smart idea to dedicate an entire restaurant to The Cheese, as this place is over the dirt where the first O'Neill Surf Shop was in Santa Cruz was way back when starting around 1959 when Jack moved his business and his family down to Santa Cruz and was perfectly positioned for the surf boom lit by the movie Gidget that exploded into the Beach Boys and Frankie and Annette and everybody went surfing. Only glitch was when I asked the bartender for the bathroom code and he looked at me askance and wouldn't give it up. He said it was for hotel guests only. Aren't food establishments required to provide bathrooms to customers? If I had any friends, I would take them to the Jack O'Neill Restaurant and Lounge. It's got atmosphere. P.S I've interviewed around a dozen white shark attack victims. I get their stories and tell them: "You had a rough day. I'll see if I can get you a new wetsuit. Look at the O'Neill catalogue and tell me what you want and I'll call Pat O'Neill." And Pat always comes through with quality neoprene, so maybe a restaurant for him some day?
