I always liked the angels wings there and the curry is tasty. But this time I go I found a bug in the red curry soup after I already had several sips. The owner is kind enough to offer a 50% off first but when my husband pay they somehow decided to only take that one dish off. This reminds me of a place you'd find off the beaten path. The interior isn't the greatest but it was clean. The service was ok, the waitresses weren't exactly friendly but they weren't rude either. Oh no! :( Emerald was our favorite restaurant until tonight. We ordered at least once a week but I can't look at our food the same now. Tonight, we ordered Massaman Curry and Pad Prik. Excited to get home and eat, and we notice a concerning black thing in our food. Looks like a worm. :( There was nothing else in the Massaman curry that looked like this. I've noticed in the kitchen the cooks cooking with their shirts off and thought it was pretty unsanitary, but chalked it up to a culture situation that I didn't understand. Can't deny bugs in food. I was in the area and decided to check out this restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was empty considering they just opened for the day. I was seated immediately and ordered quickly. The restaurant is a family owned business and it gives you that quaint vibe. The food had a lot of flavor and spice. If you are not a fan of spice make sure to order mild. The only thing about my rice dish was the rice grains were a little over cooked for me. I do prefer more of a firmer rice but besides that the flavor and freshness was there. Another aspect that was a little bothersome was the floors of the restaurant seemed like they need to be updated. When I dine at a restaurant I inspect every part of the restaurant. Went out with a group of ladies last night and we had a blast! We tried and ate a variety of appetizers. The angel wings were definitely a nice starter. We also ordered chicken wings, fresh spring rolls and fried calamari. For entrees we had pad see ew, soup, pork spare ribs, steak, pad gai lan, fried shrimp, golden curry, massamam curry and shrimp plate. Pretty good but my friend said the shrimp lacked flavor. The service was excellent and our server was very patient with us. We had a large party. She did not automatically add in the tip which was nice. We tipped her well because she took very good care of us. Mixed feelings about the different dishes. Some were more tasty than others. The angel wings and steak as well as the pork ribs were the favs. The inside of the restaurant was clean and welcoming. It is small but inviting and the wonderful smells from the kitchen showcase the aromatics the chef is utilizing. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall. This is without a doubt the worst Thai food I have ever eaten. The satay was dried out with some sad shreds of cabbage and carrots and a totally bland peanut sauce. No vinegar marinated cucumber and onion salad on the side. On to the entree. It was called emerald curry. You're thinking green right? No. In fact, I wouldn't even call it curry. It had no flavor whatsoever. Unless you consider chili powder sprinkled on top for flavor. The only thing that I enjoyed was the Singha beer. I usually don't trash restaurants when I don't like the food. But this was beyond bad . I just wanted to walk out and not pay for that horrible mess, but even though I was fuming, I asked for my check, paid, and left without a word. We called to see if they can resolve this matter but they were rude n disrespectful. They blamed us that the order was picked up late which cause the papaya salad to be bitter which is outrages. While I have your attention - I'd call before going, to see if they're accepting credit cards! I went yesterday and they weren't - their machine was 'down'. Had to run to an ATM! This is the 2nd review in the last 2 months that made note of the cash-only stance, which I find unacceptable (nowhere on the site is it mentioned). The machines and technology are just not that expensive. On to the review. I had reason to celebrate so ordered a lot, including Thai Spring rolls. Kaeeng Jeud Woon Sen with pork (Soup), and Grilled Chicken and Papaya Pog Pog. A bit pricey at about $40 for this, but the food was very good. My wife and I both thought the Spring rolls excellent, and I feel the same about the Soup and Grilled chicken. The Pog Pog was something I'd never tried before and it wasn't anything like what I was expecting - couldn't take more than a couple bites! However, I don't penalize a place for my failed curiosity - the missing 5th star is solely Grilled due to them forcing customers to bring/go out for (!) cash. Service was fine. So we heard about this little hole in the wall Thai place on hwy 64 Lakeland called Emerald Thai restaurant. When you walk in, it's very small, maybe 8 tables and 4 booths. Not fancy at all, but you're immediately greeted and seated. The server was very pleasant (I didn't get her name) and came over with our drinks right away. Food came shortly after, and let me tell you, it was finger lickin' good! Shrimp patay, 9 skewered grilled shrimp with a peanut sauce and your choice of heat (mild, med, hot, or Thai hot). I chose mild, and it was plenty hot! The main course was a seafood combo that had mussels, clams, octopus, and shrimp along with a heaping serving of veggies and a delicious sauce. Served with about 2 cups of rice so you slather all that scrumptious stuff on. The wife had chicken curry that was also lip smacking. The Thai tea was an excellent palate cleanser and also helped calm down the capsaicin:). The bill was actually less than I expected (I really didn't look at the prices of the plates). So if you're looking for ambiance, this ain't the place. But if you're looking for an excellent Thai meal, then this is definitely the place. I think I found my neighborhood hole in the wall Thai joint. To think, this is less than 10 miles from my door...who woulda thunk it? Give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Wonderful place! The restaurant is in a little shopping center. When I walked in I thought it was another place I'd been to across town. They were just opening as we walked in. We were greeted by a very friendly lady. Service was friendly and attentive throughout. My sister and I argued over the size of the soup. Apparently she's had some no so good Tom Kha Gai soup. We settled on the small because it is big enough for 3-4 people. I won the battle. I had a small one to go and she had to order another cup to take. It was that good. I don't believe I've had it with white onions before but they were nicely cooked in the soup. Unlike others I've had there didn't seem to be any non edible pieces to take out of the soup. The cream cheese wontons had vegetables in them which was a little surprising to see. They were delicious and we'd definitely have them again. The papaya pog pog salad was juicy and tasteful. I've never tried it anywhere before. It was so juicy, not too sweet, and had a great spice. It is one of my new favorite things to eat. The Tod Man we're definitely different. I decided I'd see what they tasted like. I enjoyed the inside. The outside wasn't bad but it was more of a deep rich flavor than I like. The sauce did enhance the flavor. I'm glad I tried it. Came here Saturday (Feb 22) for lunch with a friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. I ordered the Thai Spring Rolls and Tom Yum soup with Shrimp as an appetizer. The soup was greatly spiced and the spring rolls were good. For my meal I ordered the Pad King with Shrimp (steamed rice included) and it was delicious! The ginger was a hit but not overpowering and the Thai spices were amazing. I would definitely order this again. My friend order the same appetizers as I did except she had the vegetarian version of the soup and spring rolls. For her meal she ordered the Thai Salad with no onions. Wanting to try! Glad I did. They are still currently not doing dine-in. Only to-go orders. Lots of options, and the flavors were wonderful. Got the fresh spring rolls, which are made with chicken. If you want it with shrimp, it's a $2 up-charge. Instead of the peanut butter sauce I'm used to, theirs was served with a plum sauce. Loved the sauce! A sweet, tangy sauce to complement the rolls were perfect. Ordered the emerald curry, spice level 6. Normally, I love super spicy. I thought a 6 would be a mild flavor. But I was wrong! It definitely had a pretty good heat to it. They also have an Indian-Thai menu and you can also get dishes Indian spicy, which I thought was interesting. The food here was fresh and flavorful.
