I know it's Americanized but it's still the closest Thai place to home and is still delicious. Also I've found many of my less-adventerous friends are able to find something here that they enjoy. So it's a great place to take various groups of people to. I've enjoyed introducing Thai food to a couple different groups of people and getting to try different things with them. I prefer Pad Thai with pork at spicy level 7 to really appreciate the flavor. If I have had a lot of spicy food then level 10 works but when not I prefer 7. The Pad Thai with Beef was surprisingly good as it is made with angus beef. The Chef's Fried Rice is super sweet and tastes really good without spice. I may try it super spicy one day but I think it's good as is. The sushi here is really good as well. My fav (and my fam's fav) is the Bomb Roll. When it comes to curry this is how I basically feel: - Red and Panaang curries: Great flavors, excellent choices to go all the way to level 10 spiciness. I always eat it with chicken. - Yellow: Has a really distinctive flavor that can be ruined by too much spice. I recommend level 5 or less. I've had this with chicken and tofu and both are pretty good. - Massaman: This curry has a very light flavor and is best kept at spicy level 0-3. People with peanut allergies beware: contains nuts. - Green: I actually dislike this curry. I don't really enjoy the flavor and its burn slowly builds over time after you have eaten your last bite and is hard to counteract. - Jungle: I thought I would like this one because it is just spice, but since it doesn't have coconut milk, it doesn't have any real flavor to it (to me anyway). Oof. Despite the great reviews for BA, we had a rough (carry out) experience. I ordered online with pick up "available" in forty minutes. My husband arrived about forty-five minutes later and waited... and waited... and waited. It took an additional 45 minutes of waiting before the order was ready. They were busy, so he showed grace. But when he got home, the food was also mediocre. Example: the cashew chicken had NOT ONE cashew in it, and the sauce was so thin it ran through the rice like water, flavor was expectedly bland as a result. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES RESULTING IN DISSATISFIED CUSTOMERS. BE SURE TO ASK IF THEY HAVE ALL THE SAUCES/DRESSINGS /INGREDIENTS ADVERTISED AND EXPECTED BEFORE ORDERING AND GETTING YOUR FOOD. We ordered the seared ahi tuna salad which is supposed to have ginger salad dressing. They brought it out without any dressing on the salad at all. After asking about the dressing they said they had a very small amount of a different dressing if we wanted it but they were out of the ginger dressing that is supposed to go on it. This substitute dressing was barely enough to cover 1/3 of the salad. Said they were out of the ginger dressing and didn't have enough of the substitute to properly cover the salad. Just out of all dressings at 5:15 on Saturday night. If they had said that on the front end we would have ordered something else. After questioning that they had no dressing at all they finally said they had just enough of the substitute dressing to squeeze out enough to cover another ALMOST 1/3 of the salad. We heard someone else order the ginger dressing so I warned them they told us AFTER we got our food that they are out. She checked with her waiter who confirmed to her they were out. A few minutes later her waiter came out to say they found just a little of the ginger dressing so she could order her food. I questioned our waiter about why they wouldn't bring the dressing to the customer who already had their food rather than reserving it for a customer wanting to order. The answer was the manager is picky and wouldn't like it if he brought it now?!? They brought salads for the table next to us with the substitute dressing they claimed to also be out of so we couldn't get more. Not sure what is going on there. ***Rationing due to poor supply ordering or rationing to save money. Either way, VERY BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES. ***This restaurant is not the same quality food or service it was with the previous owners. f you go there make sure you ask if they have enough of whatever product you want before ordering. A very disgruntled and disappointed customer over salad dressing, which sounds crazy, but completely makes or breaks the dish in our opinion. All they had to do was let us know on the front end so something else could be ordered, or give enough to current customers rather than rationing super small amounts to try to spread it out so thin. read more

This place has great potential. Being that we came from a place with a lot of authentic Asian restaurants, we were impressed on how well the dishes were made. I felt the pad Thai needed a bit more tamarind to it, and I was kinda bummed the noodles were cut. But the beef was cooked perfect. The pork was also very tender, although I am used to my basil pork having ground pork. The flavors here were on point. My husband ordered the sushi and I forgot the name of it. What a great experience last night at Bangkok Alley! I went to dinner with no particular expectations and left so happy! I had the beef pad thai and it was a nice size portion and delicious! The flavors were very good and the meat was cooked perfectly. 10 out of 10! Here is where it got even better... there was live music. Really, really good music! I was in the restaurant on Wed June 15th and was having a nice meal, UNTIL i seen a ROACH on the window seal inside the restaurant right next to where i and my party were sitting. The dine-in experience featured a much more colorful dish. The pickup order was somewhat bland. For clarity, I split half the dish than what is shown. But there were no red peppers or broccoli. I started eating at. Bangkok Alley at their original location in Cordova on Germantown parkway. It was a staple for lunch, a short drive from the office, perfect portions and reasonably priced. The owners paid close attention to everything. When they opened the Collierville location we were concerned that they'd outgrow their personal touch, but the fear was unfounded. As good as ever and it stayed a staple. We moved away 10 years ago and visit BA on trips back. Food and beverages were solid, and never disappointed. Back in town for business this week and wanted a hit of nostalgia and some Asian food. Dang. The first part of the meal went well. I ordered a couple of sushi rolls which were really good, prepared with care and proudly served. But the entree order got somehow misplaced in the kitchen and it took about 45 minutes to get to me. Mistakes happen but man, which they'd been a little more on top of things. And the Massaman curry I ordered was long on coconut milk and short on ingredients. And whoa....sweet. The server was apologetic and explained about new kitchen staff. Still though...c'mon man. I may give BA another shot next time I'm in town. Typically the appetizers come prior to the meal. That was not the case at Bangkok Alley. We were here on a Sunday night, it was adequately staffed, but service was SLOW. The start of the meal was a let down because we had to send the apps back to get heated up since they came out at the same time as the entrees and had obviously been sitting for a minute. We ordered Basil Fried Rice with chicken and Drunken Noodles with beef, both on a spice level 7, and a seven was not enough, especially on the rice. Flavor was good, steak in the noodle dish was good, but the portions were not impressive by any means. Combing that with the lack luster service, I can only give this place a 3 star review. If I was going based off of the food, I would give it 3.5. Maybe a good option for to go orders but probably will not dine in again. There are better options out there. I was optimistic about this place, but for the price would definitely opt for somewhere else. Disappointed to say the least. My review seems to be the opposite of the past few Yelpers who have said food was not great but service was great. I have loved Bangkok Alley for years. It's the only Thai restaurant I eat in Memphis. My fave is the Pad See Ew with Beef and shrimp. However I also enjoy the tofu/veggie fried rice with added shrimp. Drinks are always good. It began with menus that were stickier than fly paper. Progressed to Tom Yum soup that was lukewarm, nothing more than some chicken broth with lemon juice (definitely not lemongrass), raw mushrooms and chicken as tough and old as an old shoe. No galangal. No chiles. No ginger. In a word: bogus. Next, the Pad Thai was a congealed, flavorless lump and the Pad Krapow (with its grizzly pork) was set in an uninspired soup of soy sauce and scallions. Like the soup, these dishes were barely warm when served. I've eaten Thai food in restaurants from Bangkok to New York, from Hong Kong to San Francisco, and while I was not expecting the food at Bangkok Alley to be anywhere near the quality of the food I've enjoyed elsewhere, I can say (without reservation) that this was some of the worst food - not just Thai food, but food in general - that I have ever been served. I don't know if some of the positive reviews about this place are planted by a PR agency for the owners - or if some of the reviewers have no idea what decent Thai food should taste like - but anyone who thinks this place is worth a return visit needs to have their palate examined. Great place for lunch! Open all weekdays from 11-2. They have plenty of outdoor seating and heaters so you can spread out even in the winter. They have a specific lunch menu with lunch portion sizes. I was very hungry, so it was the perfect amount for me, but you may even have some extra if you aren't as hungry. I had the pad thai which you can get with or without meat. Meat option include chicken, beef, shrimp, or tofu. Really tasty! Also, all of their lunch items come with a complementary cup of soup, which was really good! Service was fast. Action packed authentic Thai food in Memphis! Happy Happy, Joy joy!!! The service was solid and the outdoor dining area was great. What was impressive though was the food. I've dined at Bangkok Alley on two occasions, and both experiences were great. On my most recent visit, I had the pleasure of sitting on the patio. The weather was perfect and the outdoor dining area is suitable for any party that chooses to join in. I opted for their Nigirizushi (oval size sushi on a light bed of rice) , spring rolls, and their fried Hurricane rolls. I absolutely love that the food is light & prepared with fresh ingredients. Although parking is minimal, I love that Bangkok Alley is such a hidden gem within the city. There's no long wait time, and the atmosphere is great.
