Unfortunately, they missed some mold, and I had to call them back to cut out more drywall. This was a big disappointment. I don't understand how it was missed. The missed mold was right up to the edge of the drywall, meaning the drywall they cut out would also have mold right up to the edge, and they are supposed to remove one foot past where the mold ends. I found it when I was putting insulation back in, and I could have easily missed it myself which could have led to the mold continuing to grow and having another big problem later.  Also, I was given a work authorization to sign, but with no written breakdown of what the work would actually entail: which parts of the house, the process to remove the mold, etc. I had to request this. All other mold mitigation companies I contacted gave me a quote with a very detailed written breakdown of the work to be performed. If you go with them, make sure you ask for the details of the work to be performed in writing and don't settle for just a verbal explanation of what they will do.

Then showed up 10 days later to grab their equipment and left. Charged my insurance company over $6,000 and once they got their money, I never heard from them again. For 3 months I left numerous voicemails which were never returned. I was initially told that they would be in touch with some proposals to replace the drywall, flooring, paint, etc. but never heard a single thing. So I was just left to scramble on my own and I am still attempting to find someone to finish putting my basement all back together and it has literally been over 4 months now. Live and learn I guess. I would have been better off renting a commercial shop vac and dehumidifiers and done it all myself and saved myself from being dropped by my insurance company. So very disappointing.

Bart Gaffney, the District Manager, explained the problems in detail. I trusted him completely. They got rid of everything necessary in the basement and cleaned and sanitized the areas of mold. I have asthma and allergies, and we needed the vents cleaned. ServiceMaster Restore was booked for Thanksgiving week, but Bart helped by telling us to get a special filter for our furnace which would help my breathing until they could get here to help us. It was a cold, snowy morning when Lawrence and Adam arrived, exactly on time, and after calling me to tell me they were en route. They carefully looked at the vents in each room, which were all located in the ceilings, and determined how to best clean all of them. They had to "reverse clean" the vents due to an unusual configuration, which Lawrence verified by crawling around in the attic and checking the duct work there to be sure nothing was missed. As if that was impressive enough, they continually ran up and down the 16 stairs to my condo to check on the air compressor running the vacuum, since it was 27 degrees outdoors. Six hours later, after insisting they wanted to skip lunch so they could get the job done as promised, my entire condo was smelling and looking cleaner. My husband and I opted to add the sanitizer to each duct, and we highly recommend that to anyone cleaning their ducts. 18 years of dust, going all the way back to drywall construction dust, were scrubbed and vacuumed out of the vents. When finished, Lawrence showed me the pictures of the ducts before and after the cleaning, as well as a video showing the dirt and debris, swirling like dust devils, into the vacuum hose. Oh...the challenge beyond what they already had to do...I had a new refrigerator delivered right as Lawrence and Adam set up the hoses for cleaning. The hoses had to be removed so the refrigerator could be brought up the stairs. Those delivery men forgot to bring something to cover the white carpet, but Lawrence and Adam helped with what they had, and weren't the least bit upset at having to do their set up twice. The entire company is professionally run, and dedicated to making sure the consumer understands the process and is happy with the results. Many thanks to all of you!

They guided me through every step of the mitigation, reconstruction, and insurance processes, always keeping me informed and confident that things would be made right. Our project…read moremanager acted like he had done this a million times over, told us to trust him and that he would take care of everything - So, that's what we did and boy did we learn our lesson. There were days when the workers wouldn't show up, alot of the work is super shotty and it took months to complete, despite a 6 week contract. They didn't patch before painting, so when I asked that they drop off the extra paint from the project so I could fix it, they told me they threw it out, but then someone else's half empty cans of paint ended up in my house. In one room, they even got paint all over the furniture. As far as the bathrooms, the tile work is beyond sloppy! There were times throughout the project that we'd get random calls that we were behind on payment and we NEVER ONCE were invoiced - How can I pay a bill that I never received? The PM would call and when we would respond stating the lack of invoice, he would simply state, "oh yeah I know, billing is behind"....um what? We immediately paid said invoices and life went on. Finally, once it was all complete and after not hearing from him/EFW for months we got slapped with a final bill even though we approved insurance to pay them directly. Turns out that the PM had NEVER submitted anything he was claiming to over to our insurance company so nothing got handled, no claims approvals, no final payouts were made to either party - we trusted them to handle the insurance part as their 'expertise'. The worst part was that we didn't even know this wasn't taken care of until some random lady reached out to us to collect - we never heard from the guy we were working with again... apparently he was just fired without ANY communication from EFW to us. This entire experience was an ABSOLUTE nightmare. It's our fault for "trusting" someone's word, so I take that blame, but the lack of service, customer care is sickening and I hope that someone else can learn from our mistake. This is YOUR home that these people will be in and I don't want anyone else to go through this. Run people. Run.

We will never use Emergency Fire & Water Restoration again or recommend them to anyone we know…read more They would barge in unannounced (they had a key to the unit) and leave mud (and sometimes paint) all over our hardwood floors. We often weren't even given the cutesy of a knock at the door when they arrived. We repeatedly asked them to at least knock when they arrived, and not only did they give little effort, they tracked mud/dirt all over our living areas and didn't clean when they left. "Cleaning" was factored into the massive bill, but we were the ones stuck cleaning up their mess. One of their employees even complained to us that they are paid very little and they often hire inexperienced people. This was evident by the low quality work we repeatedly witnessed. The pictures that were shown to our contact who was overseeing the project and he did not appear bothered in the slightest by our complaints. One day a young crew came and slammed down packages (thinking nobody was home). They were very loud and swore a lot. I called there supervisor and complained while they were outside playing on their phones. Some of these packages ruptured and our contact came out and seemed visibly upset that his crew behaved in such a way. We were told they were suspended. It took Emergency Fire and Water Restoration 3 months to finish the job. We were made to feel like a very low priority. We had to live among paint cans, dirt/dust, plastic, holes in the floor and wall for a long time. We are very lucky that we don't have children. This entire job should have been done within a month (this is what we were originally told!). There would be many days that nobody would show up to work on our place. It was tough to get updates from them/progress reports. I guess they got what they wanted though (lots of money). The invoice that we had to repeatedly ask for was very, very questionable. There were charges that we didn't understand and they failed to explain.

I gave 2 stars because they did listen to some requests and they were nice, but waiting on the results of the actual work and hopeful of a dry basement. I was told materials would be removed but when they started work they said they couldn't dispose of the drywall and I had to take care of that.
