This is a hidden gem, no really. It took us forever to find but well worth it. It is right across the street from the Rankin Police Station. The menu has a wide selection, I really couldn't decide what I wanted but I went with the ribeye sandwich. I'm glad i did too. Huge sandwich! I added mushrooms, it was very flavorful. My boyfriend got the fish sandwich, he enjoyed it as well. Fast and friendly service. Will definitely be back. read more

This restaurant used to have amazing food and my experience with the catering has been good but the last 2 times I've ate there I've been extremely disappointed. Last time I got the steak which was flavorless and extremely tough. The prices are high as well. I would not go back here. read more

We had gone to the Frick Mansion for a tour and I told my friends we were stopping off for a lunch in Rankin. There wasn't much enthusiasm about the location but the reluctantly agreed. We stopped in front and my wife said we aren't going in there are we? Well once the order the food and enjoyed the best Reuben, fish sandwich and stuffed peppers they were sold. The owner came over and thanked us for stopping. She is a real asset to the place. The restrooms were spotless, which important to my wife. I have taken places where she had to hover over the commode. I went back two days later for the hulushki. A real gem a perfect place to eat real comfort food. We have been coming here for over 30 years, consistantly good food and friendly staff. Vwey reasonably priced and large portions. This is not the best fish sandwich in Pittsburgh. It;s a fat piece of cod in overbreaded oil. I had a side of their mac and cheese which was pretty much mac and no cheese., Definately not homemade. Don;t leave reviews often but i had high hopes for this place. If you want good fish go to St; Elias in Munhall. They have the BEST fish.. This place was a total dissppointment. We heard about this place on Andrew Zimmer Delicious Destinations on TV. The place was nice and very clean.they greet you as you walk in. Patrons who had been there before were boasting about the great food. We sat at the bar , and there is also a family dining area.A fellow next to me loves the Reuben and said it's huge! That the lobster is as good as up in Maine where he has worked and the steaks are juicy and tender. We were there for the fish and knowing the orders were big I ordered a junior size. My hub ordered regular size ,well it was huge, 3 lge planks about a lb of fish. It was very good. I introduced myself to the owner she has taken over since her dad passed away. She said it's a neighborhood place where everyone knows each other and safe area. It's a family place. no late hangers at the bar because she closes very early. But now during lent people come for the fish so she stays open late, like 8 or 9pm.Great fish We will go back. read more

Has the best fish sandwich and shrimp alfredo! The fish was perfectly breaded and fried, topped with homemade tartar sauce on an oversized delicious bun. I have been searching for the elusive perfect alfredo sauce and finally found it. Omg, I'm not exaggerating! Creamy rich goodness delighted my finally satiated taste buds. All previous reviews are correct! We went to Emil's for my sons 18th Birthday lunch. My son is a Rueben connoisseur of sorts. He's tried Ruebens in many cities around the country including NYC. He agreed... excellent! We tried all the favorites. Stuffed cabbage- delicious! Fish sandwich- yummy and gigantic. Delicious, enormous cheeseburger and both the fries and onion rings were great too. As for the staff, our waitress went above and beyond. She was very friendly and even though we were there on Saturday, she managed to rustle up some halushka for me... it's a Friday only dish. We came from out of town and I was REALLY looking forward to having one of my childhood favorites. I really appreciated the extra effort and it was yummy. We all left stuffed and happy. read more

This place was very good. I found out about Emil's when watching a show called "25 Things I Love About Pittsburgh" on WQED hosted by Rick Seback. This place ain't a luxurious restaurant...it's a beer & a shot bar / lounge. But the people are friendly & the food is good. I had the fish sandwich which was great. It ain't in a great part of town, Rankin, but I've been in worse places!! Try this place. read more

I ordered a salad to go on February 18. I was very disappointed. Soggy lettuce, ice cold chicken and a strange water puddle underneath the lettuce made this salad the WORST I've ever experienced. I can deal with one bad experience however I cannot except the terrible attitude of the so called manager. read more

My Previous visit to Emil's was good. Tonight's was disastrous. Arrived before 5 but waited for others Only two tables in main room occupied. We ordered at 5:15 and other tables started to fill up. Their orders were placed after ours. One by one they were getting their food. 5:50 we ask about our food, with the reply Baked takes 20-25 minutes longer. This was 40 minutes after our placed order. We never were informed about extra time needed. The bartender tried with her heart to make it better. More food orders kept coming out to All the tables around us much to her surprise!! Finally at 6:10 our food arrived. The bartender advised us more than once the Owner was on her way to see us. I only ate 1/2 my meal being so upset. We received our check with just 2 maybe 3 beers being comped!! We left to our event and my daughter said the Owner came out but not to our table. Not even an apology from the Owner and our bill was $66 plus tip without the beer. Our waitress was not attentive. Our family night out was a bust! This place was DELICIOUS!! My parents saw a recommendation to visit this place from Rick Sebak's "25 Things I Like About Pittsburgh" and he's usually pretty accurate. His recommendations were to try the Reuben, Fish Sandwich and Open-Faced Steak Sandwich. We went early afternoon for a late lunch today (a Saturday) and were seated right away. The staff is extremely friendly. My Mom & I each had the fish sandwich, while my Dad & Brother had a Reuben sandwich. The fish was very good, but the Reuben was to die for! Both dishes were massive, and could very easily be shared between two people. On top of being extremely large portions, it was incredibly affordable. The giant fish sandwich was $8 and the giant Reuben was $7.50. Our drinks were always filled and we were checked on several times during the meal. We will definitely be back!!! Oh and a bit of advice ahead of time - they take CASH ONLY. So come prepared, but I'm pretty sure I saw an ATM there as well. And I do believe they are closed on Sundays & Mondays. read more
